National Novel Writing Month - Anyone?
I recently heard of this thing. It's called National Novel Writing Month (otherwise known as November) and it's like a legit thing.
I'm actually rather shocked I haven't heard of this before. From what I understand, the goal is basically to write 50,000 words in a single month (which comes out to nearly 2,000 words a day). And there's a website where you can sign up and keep track of your progress and compare it to your friends. And if you put in your location, you're added to a group full of participants that are phsyically in your same location (anywhere in the world?!) so you can connect with fellow writers while you undertake this adventure. And there's badges you can earn when you hit certain word counts or do certain things. And if you can't tell, I'm totally overwhelmed by how excited I am for this!!!
The only real rule, it seems, is that you have to start from scratch. No picking up a story that you started ages ago. Every word of the story that goes toward the 50,000 word count has to be written during November. Apparently, it can be really tough to crank out that many words in a single month, but the results can be pretty amazing when you put forth the effort.
