I have a question

do you believe that human’s ability to feel empathy or “love” as you’d say or even morality is a result of a God given gift or human nature? or do you think that people only do good because they know that God is expecting them to be good?

PS: I'm not in any way an atheist and I do believe in God, just that curiousity got the best of me

God is love

I can't speak for everyone else but I never went to church, as my family doesn't believe in any religion, so my morality, and right and wrong, was taught to me by my parents. I have done lots of volunteer work with children and I do it because I like to do it, not because I think God wants me too. Being "moral" or just good to those around you can positively impact your life and others on earth even if you don't believe in God and right and wrong is imprinted on you from society. Also Love is something even animals can feel so I think that's simply nature. You should look up coco the gorilla cries. Again these are my thoughts and how I personally developed my own views of right and wrong though I never had to think about as picking up these cues is as normal as picking up your first language.

As someone who doesn't believe in God, but is open to the idea of a higher power, I believe it's human nature. It is a human need to be loved, and we have grown to realise that, in order to feel love, we have to show love. We've grown to realise that reciprocity is key, although over recent decades we have also realised that some people will show love first, so we can show it later because we just need our own love first. I believe that what we call "empathy" is kind of a "learned" practice, and it isn't something that comes easy to people. I've known some people that have caused others pain and not been able to see things from someone else's point of view until they are forced to do so, and only then do they realise what they have done to hurt them.

What we call "morality", on the other hand, is a societal practice and has some emotional, circumstantial and objective roots in it. So so many things that we can generically say "That's immoral" suddenly become "moral" or "acceptable" in certain circumstances, even though the end result is the same. It's the whole "murdering someone in cold blood" vs "accidentally killing someone in self-defence or defending someone else" thing. Either way, you've killed someone, but one is celebrated where the other isn't. It's hugely complicated, but I don't think I could attribute that even to a higher power. I think it's all down to us and how WE have learned to be over time.

I think it's evolutionary because we need to help each other survive and reproduce. Animals display it too

I don't believe in God. I believe it is in nature to feel love seeing as humans need interaction to survive. Not all humans feel empathy though, and I'm not just talking about sociopaths and psychopaths.
