HARLEY.XX ✕ GUI
> Chinese / fluent / self-explanatory
> Korean / fluent / Several years of living in the country has rendered Gui a natural at the vernacular, and it takes the most trained ears to detect her miniscule accent.
> English / proficient / Shii Yang has allies fluent in the language, and in order to be fully aware of any dealings done in the international language, Gui has familiarised herself with English. She has never uttered words in English in the presence of others, but any observant person can recognise the understanding in her eyes when she observes Sid and Charlie rambling on in their own little world.
PERSONALITY
Positive: Rational, Indiscriminate, Intellectual
Neutral: Taciturn, Observant
Negative: Selfish, Aloof, Insensitive
Meet Gui. Aloof and placid, she is often seen lounging somewhere in HQ with equal disinterest in everyone around her, save for Shii Yan. An unspoken consensus - motivated by intimidation and propagated by curiosity - is to evade her, has become the victime of her exploitation rather than the pinnacle of her agony. A convoluted assortment of knowledge is suspended within the confines of Gui's mind - abundant in material knowledge, insightful rationale, and characteristics of those dear to her. However, it her eternal desire to learn that constitues her every thought. Devoid of any certainty, ingenuity stemmed from the comprehension of how most things function throught the logic of physics is just one of the many skills Gui has amassed over time. Her physics expertise aids in her perception of simple everyday tasks such as driving. Therefore, many of her actions are influenced by a scientific approach rather than actual emotions.
Characterized by her reticence and perplexity, there is an innate, overarching feeling of reverence most people sense when in her presence. Perhaps it is actually discomfort others feel, but nevertheless, with her well-informed and collected sentiment, every words Gui utters is resolute and serves a purpose. On the rare occasion she extends any sort of opinion in meetings, it rarely goes unconsidered. Observing raw human nature, void of any mask constructed to shield innermost thoguhts and feelings happens to be one of the perks of isolation. An enhanced skill she possesses is being able to scrutinize every detail and understand a person's body language and as a result, she can easily detect lies and assume what most are thinking. It is never implemented alone, for Gui's indifference leaves her with an impotence to recognize the significance of one's words.
Detatched sentiment, however, is not all-encompassing for Gui. Straying from most affection, a foreign feeling Gui cannot cope with is love. Unable to give and receive the poignant human emotion, Gui avoids it to the best of her ability. Though empathy might not be evident in her character, a definite understanding of emotion prevails. Able to handle most situations without triggering any negative emotions, there is a line line Gui can cross that could unleash hell if her repressed anger is unleashed. Her most instinctual habit is to consider her well-being over, even if it causes or contributes to the detriment of others. Objectively speaking, her background has influenced this trait of hers, as she was forced to learn the art of self-preservation from an early age.
For the next five years, while people went about their business during the day, at night Gui was laving away as she undertook special deliveries and offered her services to superpowers oof China's underworld. Benefiting from her neutrality and objective nature, she quickly became Shanghai's top mercenary, driven solely by a need to posses wealth. If you're in dire need of transporting drugs, counterfeit money, dispose of someone or to implant evidence, it was evident that she was your woman.
On her 22nd birthday, an associate of Gui's introduced her to Shii Yan, who wished to acquire her services. Tantalised by the prospect of a hefty reward, Gui accompanied Shii Yang back to South Korea, where she easily eliminated a threat to HARLEY.XX. After that, Gui hung around for awhile, as she was fairly curious about Shii Yan's mysterious organisation. The leader of HARLEY.XX offered her a position, but Gui declined Shii Yan's offer, as she was content with her dominance in China, and the thought of starting from scratch in SK repulsed her.
Gui went back home, but things were never the same. Hellbent on having her, Shii Yan used her connections to intercept multiple large-profile assignments of Gui's which infuriated her immensely. her profits were slowly, but surely declining due to the older woman's indirect meddling, and after eight months of trying to escape from Shii Yan's influence (she had tried to move business to Beijing, but Yan's cronies till kept up with her) Gui travelled back to South Korea, where she accepted Shii Yan's terms bitterly. And thus, her life at HARLEY.XX began.
TORMENTOR: SHII YAN: Undoubtedly, Shii Yan's persistence has earned her Gui's distrust and hate. Gui had spent years being the boss of herself, so to be forced into subservience by the older woman was obviously stirred tension between them. Shii Yan knows the hate that grows inside of Gui, and relishes in it by taunting her with faux loving words and caresses. When all members of HARLEY.XX meet, Gui can be seen sitting as far away from Shii Yan as possible, and she nevers speaks. Sometimes, their relationship is amicable, as Gui is the oldest harley (I think, I'm not entirely sure) they relate on certain things, can sometimes Gui makes herself comfortable in Yan's office, and they speak in Chinese and Yan listens while Gui reminisces about her life prior to street running, though she never shares much about herself, only vague tidbits. They undoubtedly make a good duo, and a thrill courses through Gui when Yan invites her to accompany her to meetings with Korean underworld superpowers, because it reminds her of her influence and dominance back in China, and it confirms that she's useful. Their relationship is up and down constantly, because one moment they act like comrades, and the other, they can't stand the sight of each other. Shii Yan knows that eventually, Gui will try to to earn her freedom, even if it means killing her. In all fairness, it's not as if Gui hides it.
*basic conversation of GuiYan*
G: You..do know, that eventually, I'm going to leave on my own volition, right?
(Yan nods)
Y: I anticipate it. You may be useful, but your insubordinate tendencies can't be overlooked. If I have to chain you up and torment you to bend to my will, then so be it.
G: Chain me up? You make it sound like I'd just get up and runaway. You have it all wrong, doll. I'm going to take down all your little puppets before you eventually do, so you can watch everything you've spent years to build crumple, and then I'm going to slice you head off like in the Tarantino Movie Uma Thurman starred in.
(Yan merely smiles)
Y: Tea?
(Gui nods tersely and Yan passes her a cup)
Y: Pray tell, how will you do that, when you can't even balance a katana in your hand without nearly slicing your hand open?
G: Shut up and pass a biscuit.
*fin*
WOMEN OF HARLEY.XX: For the most part, Gui alienates herself from her co-workers because pretty much all of them worship the ground Yan walks on. The fetuses are petrified of her because the older ones often tell them stories of Gui years back, when she'd murder the old members Shi Yan sent to persuade her. In fact, when Gui had officially joined, one of the braver fetuses inquired about this, to which Gui gave a ghost of a smile and asked if she'd like to see the pictures she took of their mutilated bodies. Obviously, for the older girls, some of them hold grudges against Gui because she had murdered some of their friends, but she couldn't care less. If she has to do a team-assignment, Gui normally waits in the wings while the others do the dirty work. She trains alone, but will sit in on the others' training in order to observe and analyse their fighting patterns.
ALLY: SHIM CHANGMIN: Changmin is the Chinese-Korean son of the businessman that had introduced Gui to street running. He's fairly underhand as well, and operates equally in both China and South Korea. When in Seoul, he normally rendevous with Gui, where he shares information on the current state of the Chinese underworld. They have a mutual loyalty to each other, and if Gui decides one day to raise hell in South Korea, he'll definitely take part in it. (Their relationship is platonic).
- Gui is allergic to peanuts. If consumed of it it comes in contact with her skin, she will develop irritable rashes for a fortnight tops. Even after the rashes fade, her skin still carries a pinkish tint in the formerly affected areas for a few days.
- She flutters her lashes a lot when she's annoyed
- She enjoys the company of Cuban cigars and wine.
- She has a fondness for European pastries
- She hates animals
- her wardobe comprises primarily of black or grey attire
- She's knowledgeable on cars
- The uplifting atmosphere of Seoul nightlife has Gui frequenting cafes and bars.
- She listens to a lot of instrumentals. Two Steps from Hell is her lifeline.
- In her room, she has a dartboard with a picture of Yan's face on it. It motivates her and improves her throwing.
- She can't swim
- She can dislocate her shoulders, wrists and ankles and pop them back in, which comes in handy if she's handcuffed
Firstly, Gui is extraordinarily agile and fast, so it's never difficult to outmanoeuvre an opponent, and she can jump exceptionally high and far, even from stationary positions. She's quite limber, able to twist, bend and contort her body in positions plebians can't do. These talents have given her impressive parkour and free-running skills, allowing her to scale almost anu surface or terrain quickly and squeze through most barriers and small spaces with noticeable ease. She's knowledgeable of the weak point of the human body, so in hand-to-hand combat, she can easily take down opponents, and is known to handle five or so at a time without much damage being done to her. In terms to weapons, Gui refrains from relying on them, though she does carry a shapened pocket-knife just to be safe.
WEAKNESSES Gui isn't the person you send out to a shootout and in an environment where slaughtering is unavoidable. She's a negotiator, a planner, the brains of an operation if you will, so she will not thrive if guns are involved, or too much fighting. She can't shoot to save her life, and doesn't intend to, and she bruises and swells up from an injury like a chump. Really, all that menial physical warfare is for the fetuses and hot-headed adoloscents. More higher-level tasks like hacking into technological systems and and implanting evidence are her forte. She has difficulty standing her ground in physical confrontation, and will flee to preserve herself if given the opportunity.
