THE BACKBONE
Background: Jaime was born and raised in Sillicon Valley, California, and she has an older brother that is 10 years older than her and 4 years older than her, older sister. Her father is a higher up at a regional IT company, and her mother works as a programmer for the same IT company. They are quite well-off but they aren't extremely rich by any sense of the word. She and her siblings always got everything they ever needed and even more. And though her parents hardly ever home, she and her older siblings always taking care and be there for each other. Since her childhood, she had been idolizing her older brother- it shown by her interest more on the sports instead on cosmetic or pretty dresses. Her parents had moved to California from Taipei, Taiwan where her parents and her siblings lived before so her father could take up that job with the company in USA, about a year before she was born. So while they had to do a lot of adjusting, Jaime didn't. She grew up in Northern California, but they still had relatives in Taiwan. Since she was a child, she always has been a good student and always has consistent grades in school, but she tends to fly under everyone's radar- especially the bullies, as a minority she made sure to stay out of those kids sight.Jaime's life from the time she was born up until her highschool school sophomore year was pretty uneventful.
In her sophomore year, Jaime started to experience some random blackouts, it usually end for 5 minutes- so she decided to ignore it. But a year later, her junior year of highschool, those blackouts became more often and last longer- up to 15 minutes. It got worse as she also started to saw things that wasn’t there- like broken chairs at her classroom, or seeing her parents at home when they were in their office. She never said anything to anyone because she feared to be seen as crazy- she just kept it to herself until she couldn’t. 4 months before her highschool graduation, in one of her blackout- she fall down from her school’s stair and broke her arm. She had to have surgery for it. That was the moment she told her family and her doctor about her blackouts and delusions. After some tests, the doctor diagnosed her with encephalitis- an acute inflammation of brain because an infection. She went to treatment and therapy for it, and because of her treatment for her encephalitis she was being held back for a year- so she graduated her highschool a year late. While in her treatment she got to know about K-drama, and grew interested about South Korea and stared to learn a bit about Korean language. After her highschool graduation, she told her parents that she wanted to go to South Korea. That time her parents and sibling thought it was for vacation, but she called from Seoul and told her family that she was accepted and decided to go to college in South Korea. Her parents and her siblings weren’t happy- her brother almost went to Korea just to drag her home.

He spends times in apartment with her to do their project- and whenever it gets too late, she would tell him to crash at the couch.
Nam Woohyun || 25 || They met because of soccer...or more precisely when he kick the ball to her head...accidentally. Most of time Woohyun prefers to stick behind the others and avoid to draw any attention, but can be a chatterbox to people that close to him. When Jaime has a bit time to spare, she would play indoor futsal with him. Lately he’s been asking her to help him with his pronunciation of English language.

When Jaime first move in to the apartment, despite she already has been in Korea for sometime- she never feels at home (Hakyeon and hs family did try their best though). Personality : One thing that people instantly take notice about Hakyeon, he is very confident about himself. The fact that he sometimes stop in front of a mirror in public places just to check his appearance, often make people see him as a narcissist. He also has brain to back-up his self-confidence as he is actually in second year of medical residency at the hospital- which saying that he actually quite smart. And as unbelievable as it might sound, he actually takes more pride in his look than about his education. Hakyeon is also a caring person by nature- he cares a lot about his family, friends and patients.. He can be a bit naggy person to his family and friends, especially when he thinks that they don’t take good care of themselves. He also is very amicable person. Someone that people actually easy to get along with. He knows how to be respectful the elders, and treat people around him nicely. History : Hakyeon’s father is an old friend of Jaime’s father. The first 6 months of Jaime in Korea, she actually stayed at his parents home. Because Hakyeon one of the better in speaking English in his family, he became the translator and tourist- that time Hakyeon and his his family thought she would only be in Korea for two weeks or a month. She lived with his parents for 6 months while she learned Korean language at an academy nearby. As Hakyeon always visited his parents every weekends- he and Jaime spent those weekend hangout together. When she moved out to a boardinghouse close to the university, he helped her to move and settled. Because her boardinghouse actually closer to his place, Hakyeon hangout with her a lot more- not just on the weekend. When she was living with his parent, Hakyeon acted like a doting hyung for her, after spent more time together they acted like bratty two kids- often argued over silly things (Hakyeon’s preference for pork bbq over her beef ribs bbq, goes for tteokbokkie or dumpling, watching his favorite romcom movie or her favorite action movie, etc..), they compet over silly things too (over entering a door first, eating faster over bbbq meat, eating the last cookies , and other stupid things). Both of them felt comfortable with their friendship. It was Hakyeon that first made move; the fifth month she moved to the boardinghouse, out of nowhere he kissed her one day, but didn’t say anything after that. For the next few weeks after the kiss nothing changed in their relationship- they never discussed about it. It was a month after it that Jaime did something, she kissed him after they argue over dinner they wanted to eat. It was then without any word said, they relationship changed. Though after that they still acted the same, argued a lot and acted like two brats- yet not exactly the same as now they kiss and does makeout a lot, but only when they were alone. It took about another 6 months that they finally became physically more intimate. About 2 months later, she told Hakyeon that she considering to find an apartment to move to. He offered for her to move in- she didn’t took it seriously and brushed off his offer. While they were looking for apartment, it started to show that he felt agitate with her rejection for them to move in together. When she found few apartments that she liked, he let anger known. He yelled at her, that he didn’t think she took their relationship seriously- he questioned her feeling for him. Then they both realized that all this time they never talk or define their feeling for each other. For the first time Jaime said she likes...loves him, not that she didn’t take their relationship seriously- she never did denied whenever his mother introduce her to their acquaintances as the future-daughter-in-law, that means she sees their relationship as serious, but she still thought too early to move in together. He told her that he worried, he was getting busier with his residency lately and they had been spending time together less- he was afraid that they drifted apart, and they never defined or promised anything about their relationship. That day for the first time they exchanged words of love, and promised each other that they are serious about each other. After that Hakyeon willing helped finding her an apartment and helped her move in. Though he wasn’t happy when he learned Jaime’s new flatmate would be a guy...but there wasn’t anything he can do about it. Fast-forward 15 months later their relationship still solid, They even agreed that this Christmas he would go to America with her, and to be introduce to her family formally..
Physicality : Both Hakyeon and Jaime are tactile people, they enjoy physical closeness very much. It’s a common sight even in public they’re being very physical with each other...joking physically, like kindergartners. From shoving each-other so they can enter a door first, to pulling ears or kicking shin to annoy each other. It’s very usual for Jaime to jump at Hakyeon’s back and asks for piggyback ride, or for him to drape himself at her back. Hakyeon has habit ruffling her hair, she always elbowing him if he says something stupid. Bro hug and a kiss on the forehead everytime they meet.They never hold hands or kissing on the lips in public. When they sit next to each other, he tends to lean closer to her. In private when they’re not too busy arguing with each other, they become more frisky...a lot more frisky. He often pulls her to sit on his lap, which usually end with makeout sessions. Or when they watch movie at his place, they’d cuddles- and if those lead to a lot more intimate activities, it isn’t anybody business but theirs.
After the murder they become a lot less like a grade school kids, show a bit more mature physical PDA. Hakyeon would hold her hand, and would pull her behind his back everytime he sees someone come to them. He would make sure that she sits close next to him and put his arm around her wist. When there’s no place next to him, then he would pull her to sit on his lap. Now he even kissing her on the lips on public places. Is she happy with the change? Not really. Sometimes she has to shove him a bit when he becomes physically too clingy in public, or pulls his ear if he tries to kiss her while there’s a kid around.

Who would you say you're closest to in the Complex? : Definitely Song Qian jie. She always took a great care of me...and (hesitate slightly) maybe Jimin, spending so much times play game together can be consider as close...right?
Who would you say you're more distant from? : Kyungsoo and Jongin...the only interaction I had with them were saying Hi when we accidentally cross-path. (nods her head)
What do you think of your neighbors? : We are like...a family? Some we like, some we might not getting along with, some we only see in family events....but still family.
Qian's Family Dinners, yay or nay? : Jie's family dinners is the best thing about this apartment. We really are feel like family.....(sad sigh) I think...we should keep the family dinners tradition, in memory of Jie. (scratching the back of her head) maybe I should pick this tradition again.( a wishful sigh)
Jimin's Game Nights, yay or nay? : Definitely a yes for this....I learned lotsa informal vocabs here. (laugh awkwardly) I learned to swear well from those people.
What was your reaction to Qian's murder? : (her eyes start to water, her voice weaver slightly) I can't believe that anyone could do that to Jie. She is easily one of the most wonderful person that I met in Korea.(biting her lip to hold back her tears)
Who do you feel is most likely the killer? : (shakes her head fervently) No....just no! I won't point any finger to anyone. I don't believe anyone from this building would purposely hurt Jie. we are family. (nods to herself, as if trying to to convince herself).
What are you doing in wake of the murders? : (suddenly become nervous, eyes darting around) I....(with small voice) I was sleeping alone at my room.
