baek yoojung was born in the beautiful streets of osaka, japan, among cherry blossoms and dango. for most of her life, yoojung went by the japanese name her mother gave to her, manami, and while her father spent his time managing baek enterprises, a huge chain of hotels, yoojung's mother retired early to take care of the two's beautiful daughter. yoojung's childhood sailed smoothly, and the family never had any financial problems - in fact, they were rather well-off, and were able to afford anything their precious daughter asked for. yoojung never really understood why she was a little different from the other kids in her childcare who were full japanese, and occasionally she would get teased for being half-korean, but people never really asked as long as yoojung kept to introducing herself by her japanese name. the only thing yoojung really wanted in her childhood was companionship, a sibling. yoojung envied those who had someone to play with, someone who understood her completely and shared the same blood as her - so when little eight year old yoojung tottered over to her parents and asked 'tousann, can manami-chan have a brother?', you could say her parents were both surprised, amused, and a little frazzled. the two were perfectly happy with just one child, and frankly, they weren't planning on having any more children. so to solve their daughter's issue with loneliness, yoojung's mother got her a puppy named junichi and for a while - junichi was yoojung's best friend. the two slept in the same bed, and yoojung would often talk to junichi about her problems at school, what she was learning, what she ate along the way home, whether she thought her mother's cooking this dinner was good or not, and basically everything. when yoojung turned nine, a family moved into next door, and they had a son the same age as yoojung. after fitting yoojung into her prettiest kimono and handing her a freshly-baked platter of sushi, yoojung's mother ( and their maid ) shoved her to the new family's gate to welcome them to their neighbourhood and introduce themselves. yoojung was greeted by the kazuyaki family then, and mr and mrs kazuyaki pleasantly introduced their son kirito to the baek-kotone family. after warming up to kirito and discovering that the two would soon attend the same school, they grew closer and soon, the two of them were visiting each other's houses everyday. they would walk to school together, walk home together, do their homework together - and basically, the two were inseperable. their parents thought it was cute - kirito and yoojung even made a pact that they would stay with each other and just not get married until they were old wrinkly people and explore the world together. but as the two grew older and puberty struck the pair, kirito became more attractive and soon, half of the female population at their high school were chasing after the boy. jealous girls harrassed yoojung everyday and demanded for her to stay away from kirito and the boy who used to be yoojung's best friend started grow more and more distant from her. that was probably one of yoojung's most hardest time, where the loneliness started kicking in again and even junichi couldn't put a smile on her face anymore.
When yoojung turned fifteen, she found her way into kpop. silently, she secretly auditioned for jyp entertainment through online and was rejected. however, the girl didn't give up and found bighit entertainment instead, who referred her to pledis entertainment after much discussion that they couldn't afford to gamble that the japanese-korean girl would do well under them. she passed the auditions at pledis, and after much couselling from junichi, she mustered up her courage to tell her parents that she wanted to go to seoul to start training. her parents, of course, were bewildered. who knew that their little girl who had, all the while, never really spoke up much was interested in becoming an entertainer, an idol? yoojung's mother talked to yoojung about the perils of stardom, but yoojung was dead set on her new dream. having learnt ballet since she was three, yoojung definitely had background in dance - although her parents didn't expect that she would pursue it as a career, of course. however, seeing that they couldn't change yoojung's mind since she was dead set on it, the family left osaka and kirito's sorry and moved to seoul, south korea, where yoojung had to readjust herself to life in korea. yoojung started going by her korean name then, and it was then that yoojung found out life in korea wasn't much easier than life in japan. she faced ostracizing from the other trainees for being a foreigner and her korean wasn't all that fluent anyway, so she had lots of trouble adapting to korean culture. her father helped a lot, but the long hours of training and constant criticism from her classmates, fellow trainees and teachers at pledis and school drained yoojung out constantly. yoojung faced her biggest obstacle at that point of time, and she was this close to going into a slump. however, with the help of a few close friends she made through training, yoojung's korean slowly improved and she slowly grew used to life in korea, even when life seemed most tough for her. with her parents support right behind her, the japanese-korean girl started to gain attention from the pledis staff as one of the most talented dancers still training.
yoojung has a rather colourful past that's honestly hurt her a lot but made her a lot stronger as a person now ( although not really lmao ) and she doesn't tell a lot of people how her life as a japanese-korean has affected her has been like. only the people closest to her will really realize how much the 'naive, stupid, childish alien' has gone through.
