Jessica and SNSD (Post-SNSD)

I’ve always been wondering how Jessica is doing post-snsd. There are always pictures of her on my timeline, with photoshoots and her instagram updates etc. As much as she seems to be doing well, I actually don’t think she’s doing well at all.

Is Blanc and Eclare really all that successful? I mean, sure, you have Goo Hara getting 3 pairs, Kris spotted wearing one, and some of her other acquaintances. But aren’t they supporting her merely because they know her? Does she really rake in sales?

There was an article regarding the sales of Blanc and Eclare and it stated that one of her pop up stores manage to pull in 10 million won in 4 hours (this was a blanc and eclare fan-signing event) 10 million won is essentially 9057.6 USD. Now, doing some math, her eyewear costs 250USD, so 9057.6 divided by 250, she basically sold 36 pairs in 4 hours. How is that an indicator of success? Furthermore, it was a fan-signing event. By right, she should get way more than that if she’s really doing well, no?

What’s more, she has 50, I repeat, 50 places selling her eyewear, with both exclusive retail and specialty shops. I’ve no idea how she gets so many shops to sell her . (The power of Tyler Kwon???????)

Jessica is featured everywhere but I have no idea if she’s really doing well. I mean, fans like me, who are young and penniless, ain’t got no money for that . I don’t know why she puts a 250USD price tag on that . Blanc and Eclare is hardly an established brand, it’s new. Who would buy a 250 dollar pair of sunglass with some random brand? (not me.) It’s not easy to establish a brand. Honestly, if she thinks she can ride on this ‘former snsd member’ title and set up a brand just like that, I honestly think she’s mistaken. Also, does she have a degree/diploma in fashion designing? Like she has basically zero experience in that. Being fashionable does not equate to being able to actually design clothes and stuff.

I’m not bashing Jessica, if you guys are thinking that. I still very much love Jessica. It’s just that, I feel like I’m looking at an entirely different person altogether. Seeing her pose for a photoshoot half is very shocking (despite the fact that it was hot af). It just- doesn’t feel like Jessica anymore. Does anyone feel the same way?

Sigh. This wasn’t supposed to be depressing; it was supposed to be objective and neutral. I just really hope for the best for Jessica. I don’t want her business to fail or anything. I want what’s best for her and what’s best for her, I actually really don’t know. I hope she knows what she’s doing. I still very much love OT9 but it’s getting harder to believe as the days go by.

I wish we could return to Mr Mr era, when everything was fine and OT9 were still together. It breaks my heart to know that SNSD really isn’t 9 anymore. I think my OT9 heart will completely break when SNSD comes back as 8, which is really really soon. I wish all the best to both Jessica and SNSD. (Look, it’s not even SNSD anymore. It’s Jessica and SNSD.)

On a side note, SNSD will have a reality show with Onstyle soon. It’d be interesting to see the eight of them on tv without Jessica. (Hear that? That’s the sound of my heart breaking.)

I don't think anyone was expecting her business to be booming and for her to be just as famous as before. It doesn't work that way, regardless of who you are. She seems happy, and I think that's what's important. To me, she seems 10x more happy now than before. She's showing more of herself because she's finally able to. I miss OT9 of course, but seeing how her and the group have both grown from this makes me content with all of it now. As long as Jessica is happy, from what I can see, I'm happy too. Same goes for SNSD.

I agree with you on almost all of this. Jessica's glasses are overpriced so of 10 million won is not a lot considering how much they cost. I honestly don't feel like Jessica is truly achieving anything. Anything she's selling is not her design but someone else's. She's a fashionista yet that doesn't automatically mean she can design clothes. The same with Tiffany who also aspires to be a designer. I feel like Jessica is no different than those celebrities who pick out what they like from some big name brand then slap their name or face on it as though they created it. Not only that, the overall design of the products or basic and unoriginal. There is nothing unique that sets them apart or makes them worth as much as a pair of glasses made by well established brands like LV, Gucci, or Prada. Her scarves are basic and not even 100% wool so they're not worth spending as much as she expects you to. I checked out the sight. It seems like she's using her publicity to get fans to buy her stuff, even though most of them were reluctant to buy them because of how pricey they were. It's not bad but it's not showing that you have credibility as a designer or a brand.

As far as going to design school Jessica had the opportunity to do so when she was in GG. I mean look at Yoona and Seohyun. They graduated college while they were in GG so why didn't Jessica go to design school? Clearly there was plenty of time for college if the two youngest members were able to complete high school and college while in the group.

I'm not bashing. Unlike GG, Jessica can't use the fanbase she gained from being a performer as credibility for why her brand will be successful.

I get the feeling that she's actually really lonely most of the time.
Based on her IG updates, even though she's always tagging stuff like #enjoylife and #happy but idk... doesn't seem genuine to me.
But I guess she's enjoying her free time and stuff so... there's good and bad in every situation.

As much as I hate to remember that it's Jessica and SNSD, I have to agree with you that it really seems like I'm looking at someone else, seeing Jessica now(post-SNSD) and I'm a GorJess Sone. I don't even know what to say.

Time Machine please?

P.S. : I really don't think B&E is raking in a lot of $$ but I would like to hope and believe otherwise. (I mean that could PROBABLY be the end of Jessica if B&E fails.*touches wood*)

Side note, I really still don't know how to cope with this reality and the impeding SNSD as 8 comeback.
