hachikawa akio is what you would call the walking definition of sunshine. just like the meaning of his name, he's here to brighten up your day. if it's one of those rare days where he gets mad for no reason, fear not. he probably just met an annoying old man on the way. he can also be a clueless child at time, such as saying phrases wrong and stuffs. he's actually a very nice kid, even though he has a permanent angry face until he shows one of his beautiful smiles, well that is unless you get on his bad side. akio is short-tempered so he tends to get mad at the most trivial things. sure, you can coax him with ice-cream and new mangas but i'd suggest you stay away from that side of him. worry not, our little ray of sunshine still has redeeming points about him: which is his reliability. you can depend on him to help you with anything (no, he won't pose like one of your french girls or be your hot maths tutor). he loves helping those in need, no matter how lazy he is. he hates doing things that he's forced to do. for example, homeworks, study, maths... yeah, other than that, he's always ready to lend a helping hand. if he's not helping people, he's either reading a manga, painting or sleeping on a tree somewhere.

born and raised in IKUNO-KU, OSAKA, JAPAN
ever since hachimitsu akio was little, he was known to be a child prodigy in arts. he's been praised by every single teachers at his school for being so talented even though he was barely seven years old. he was raised by a single mother after his father died in accident when he was only five years old. his mother often comes home late because of her busy schedule at her work place, and so akio learned to be independent. so that's when he fell in love with art and spends most of his free time alone, scribbling dinosaurs, heroes and whatnot (okay maybe he started loving arts because the teacher for the subject was a fine lady). however, he was bullied at school for not having a father. he gets into fights frequently which troubled his mother even more. so akio became even more distant from his mother as he grows up.
at the time he graduated junior high school, he applied for suimei high school, as he heard that the school was focused on arts. he thought he could learn to be more self-reliant. but as soon as he got into suimei, he realized that all the crap listed on the leaflet for the school was bull. he was kicked into sakurasou after his background was examined. all his dreams was broken into pieces, but he couldn't complain as other schools would probably not accept a problematic student like him.
as he moved into the almost-collapsed-dorm-building of sakurasou in his first year, he discovered his love for mangas and started working as a cook at a family restaurant to fund himself with foods and comics. at the family restaurant was also where he found his first true friend who also goes to suimei. his name is totsuka soma, the only son of the two warm-hearted owners of akio's workplace.
by the time sakurasou was starting to get neglected (not that at the start they weren't neglected enough) by the school, akio kinda went mad because he thought that they deserve a fair treatment like all the other dorms. but like the good teacher hajime is, he held akio backand so starts the journey of the remaining residents of sakurasou trying to stay strong even after receiving no care from the school adiministrators.

it's your first day moving into sakurasou and just when you enter the near run-down building, you see a young man wearing an apron mixing cookie batter. he greets you with boyish grin and asks you "if apple made a car, would it have windows?". how do you respond?
akio stood there confused, one hand on his hip and the other scratching his head. he pursed his lips before shaking his head lazily. "i don't get it"
the man in the apron proceeds to introduce himself to you. you find out his name is hajime and that he is the dorm teacher of sakurasou. he offers you some cookie batter but then asks you to first tell him a joke, riddle or pun. your response?
he paused, deep in his thoughts as he tries to come up with a joke. a grin spreads across his face as he pointed his index finger to this hajime guy. "what is the number one cause of divorce?!" hajime stood silent, thinking hard of an answer but he failed. the guy sighed as he shrugs his shoulder with a forceful pout. "i don't know." he said. akio then laughed happily as he shows a peace sign with his right hand. "the answer is: marriage!" akio continues to snicker at the older guy as the latter laughed forcefully. "can i have a cookie now?"
hajime is genuinely curious as to why you chose to board at sakurasou of all places so he blatantly asks you why you're here— not that he's complaining "because you know what they say, the more the merrier!!"
"because the other dorms are full... some said that they just didn't want me there though. but it's gotta be the first right?" akio chuckled happily as he stole some cookie batter from hajime's hands. "besides, i don't have to pay thousands of yen for this dorm. it's kinda messy, but it was meant to be resided by art students like me right? h-huh? you don't believe me? i am an art student all right!"
