before you express hate, step back and reevaluate

Like the title says, before you express hate, step back and reevaluate, this blog post is going to be about, hate.

Recently an anon on Tumblr had expressed her feelings about her problems on Asianfanfics. Her problem was that for one of her stories, a reader had informed her that her story had about the same plot as a story that existed and of course, this writer didn't know-she never even heard about it before. But when she told the reader that she's didn't even know and she clearly didn't plagiarize if she didn't know, the reader was fine with it--but the people she told was not.

That's the thing about when you tell someone false information before getting down to the right things. I've learned that the hard way but in my case, it was really plagiarism but that isn't the point, here.

The point here is that if you come across a plagiarizer, you don't feed them to other people to drown in the hate (I've read this from a blog post a reader sent to me and forever now I deal with plagiarism differently). You get down to things by asking the writer who had plagiarized your story and if you can truly tell that they did copy you without checking with them (as in, word by word is being copied), all you can do is report to a moderator here in AFF and the moderators will take care of it. All it takes is one report and it'll be done for you but then again, don't abuse that power--make sure it's really a serious deal before you even report because you may be accusing someone for something they didn't do and that'll erupt another argument.

You can't just blindly bash someone for no reason. And by bashing, I mean, 'you should kill yourself', 'you should die because you copied'. Are you ing kidding me?

You are legitimately telling someone to kill themselves, telling someone to end their own life--how would you feel if it was your best friend receiving the same , how would you feel if it was your sibling, how would you feel if it was your relatives?

People tend to abuse the internet and say hurtful, mean things just because they won't get in trouble for it but mark my words, to those who has said these kind of hurtful things to others, retribution and karma is a ing .

It's because of people like you AFF has become a less friendly community, it's because of people like you, other people are threatening their own lives--it's because of you that the world is becoming an ugly place--how do you actually face yourself, really?

And for those who are going through receiving hate because of this problem, because you're so insecure of writing and such, here's what this anon sent to me and what I replied to her in hopes she'll feel motivated and better because in this hateful world, there needs to be less hate.

hey missy, i'm really bummed today. i have a few fics on aff and there's this one in particular that was doing with with a few hundred votes and a thousand subs, it wasn't my best work, but it was a story that i was proud of and i completed it. but last night some girl messaged me in a polite way that she thinks i plagiarized a novel but the thing is, IVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT NOVEL! i've never read but when i looked it up, the plot was very similar but the thing is, i think the girl must’ve told her friends bc everyone started messaging me and commenting, bashing me for copying a story even though every chapter was written myself with my own brain and is original to me. i already told the girl that i did not copy the story but i still put the author’s name on the foreward but ppl kept harassing me and i ended up saving the chapters and then deleting the story. i’m just sad bc it feels like i wasted all the effort i put into the story in the first place and now it’s just gone. i hate that ppl thought i copied it but it’s sad that all those months updating and all the subs, comments and votes that i accumulated are all gone and now i just have the chapters for myself. i’m so sad right now and it makes me want to give up writing bc i don’t people to think that everything i write is copied or something. i feel like ppl will find any similarities btwn stories and just bash you for it so i don’t want to risk it.

Amen.
All of the things you've said does not only apply to the authors but the readers as well, and damn you inspired me so much. I've been a fan of yours since 2013 and istg i don't regret it at all. I was close to tears (bc im freaking sensitive) and ready to shout 'GODDAMN YAS' but im in a public place atm lol. And dude, i totally agree with: Then what people say and just do it because life is too short to regret anything and let people you’ve never encountered before to tell you what the to do because that’s not how life works—your life, your decisions, none of their damned business.
Like what they said, Whoever wears the crown bears the crown.
But what really frustrates me is how cruel those people can be. Saying immoral words such as "go kill yourself" is overstepping the boundary of humanity. Who in their right mind would say such a ing thing. That word alone changes a person, it literally kills a person, not only the person itself but the people around her/him also. True, those shameless people are what makes this world ugly.
It's truly disappointing, and I truly get why you made this. Sigh. Those people seriously need to grow up and start getting a life.

I totally agree with what you're saying
I hope the author does not give up and continue if writing truly is her passion
Plagiarism is a serious deal but that does not give anyone the write to provide such hateful comments especially if you don't know that person
Sure we live in a world where there are bad people but there are also so many amazing and beautifully talented people
Don't kill their vibe for a mistake (although it may be intentional) because you don't know what happens after you post a comment you're done after you press that "post comment" button
It frustrates me to think that people actually believe they have the right to just let someone down like that to feel what? A sense of superiority? Will they actually feel good when a few words they said actually ends ones life?
I'm not trying to say that plagiarism is good but I definately agree that if it was just coincidental then stay strong and state your stance
Success will come if you try hard enough and I heard from a speaker when he came to my school that "you should never build your happiness on ones unhappiness"

That's so unfortunate... why didn't she try to explain some differences between her story and the novel? I know it is similar, but I'm sure there is a difference, I mean, it can't be fully the same, right?
I once was accused plagiarizing someone's story, and the author of the story PM me about that. I must admit that our story do look very similar, but I swear, I've not read hers before, so I told her and thank God, she believes me. After all, my story has not been completed yet....

I totally agree with you.
Plagiarizing is not a good thing. The person who got the work copied gave a lot of effort to create that, and that's not just right that someone else take credit for that.
BUT! Yeah, bashing and giving hate, that's not right too. People have feelings. They are passing through something you don't even know. Your words can hit harder than you think.
As you said, and I totally agree with that (that's something I was teached by my parents), "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything."
Thumbs up for that. You totally have my support on that matter.

A message from someone saying "you should die." Or "kill yourself" says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the person who received the message, but it's says a whole lot about the person who sent it!!!!

GREAT POST! I would love to share it here if you don't mind: http://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/596044/the-blog-writing-is-hard-personal-sarcasm-writer-rant-opinion-writingishard-superwholock

So many ignorant people need to see this as well as writers.

I understand you, but that writer who was accused of plagiarism - if it was really her own story, can she should be able to point out all the differences between her fic and book. Nothing is THAT similar, right? if it's not word for word copy, it should be OK to show where it's not the same. i know people like to jump to conclusions and be mean, but she can defend her work, that's her right. if someone says i stole something at 7 pm wednesday, then i would tell them, "but i was at the mall at that time, heres a receipt to prove it" it that she has to defend but better than to quit writing right? i just say this becuse i know some writers they were plagiarized and the plagiarizer said the same "thing oh i never heard of your story at all" but really she is a subscriber of teh story! i'm not saying this girl lie but many people have lie in the past so its hard to believe espcially like you said, it's the internet and even in real life people can lie to your face. that's why we need the evidence.
