MTBD Giveaway

The Giveaway

The concept for this Giveaway is to write an entertaining one-shot greater than 1200 words. They accept existing one shots, as long as the fic was written in 2015, and up to two entries are allowed. The host doesn't mind if the entry have been submitted to other contests. Pretty cool, right?

If anyone's interested, click the link (in the pic) for details to the giveaway.

My opinion about Mental Breakdown Reviews (MTBD).

  • The positive

If someone asked me what I like about MTBD Reviews I would say everything, including their new layout because it's pretty. I'm being wholeheartedly serious when I say this.

I like their marking system i.e. the rubrics. Readers, writers and reviewers are all people, so we're all subject to some bias or choice of preference, even if we don't admit to it. The rubrics ensures the system is fairer than subjective opinion. Plus writers are given a choice about what they want reviewed etc.

Their 'Hall of Fame' is a gold mine of good stories. These stories are great if you're looking for an awesome read, and they're guaranteed to be flawless in grammar etc. Reading flawless fics tends to help me improve my own writing, so these stories are daebak!

Thirdly, this might not be a big deal for most people, but I'm glad they use their fanfic feed because erm... I don't always check story updates. So 'tis good for those of us who have requested. When we see our name floating there in the corner it means request is done!

Lastly, their reviews are spot on! Sometimes a writer knows what they're doing wrong, and at other times they don't. Either way, MTBD will catch you out, and its best to be conscience things early on, rather than 20 chapters later, right?

  • The Negative

The time it takes to get a review back. Honestly this is no one person's fault because everyone's busy, but for those of us with the memory of a fish, we tend to forget we even requested... It is worth it in the end, but time...

Also, the shop closes quite quickly. No doubt that they get a flood of requests the minute they open, but hiring more reviewers should do the trick.

Other than that I don't have any complaints :)

  • The Conclusion

In summary, it's worth your time to visit MTBD. You will get an honest review highlighting the good, and the bad aspects of your story. Just be prepared to wait because they are quite busy.

P.S. I think I just reviewed a review shop on their overall performance.
