Comfort zone

A few days later, the next Friday to be exact, Woohyun was back to eating calmly on his bed with his computer on his lap. He couldn't say he had forgotten about the incident at the club, but he hadn't seen the elder since then — they studied in different buildings so the chances to run into each other were slim — and he had just accepted that he could be attracted to a man, so he didn't think about it that much anymore.

That was, until Sungyeol barged into their dorm, followed by the cause of his worries. A feeling of déjà-vu overwhelmed him at the way the guy's gaze crossed his and he said, in the same bored tone as last time: "Sungyeol-ah, we said no Sunggyu in our room."

"Good to see you too Woohyun-ah." Sunggyu's tone was supposed to be hurt, but the amusement was clearly perceptible. He was wearing a simple black v-neck T-shirt and a leather jacket over skinny jeans. Even though he had eyeliner again, he couldn't look more different from the first time Woohyun saw him. And Woohyun swore the guy looked more handsome every time he saw him.

His roommate sighed and went to the fridge to grab three beers. He kept one for himself, gave one to Sunggyu and handed one to his grumpy roommate. "You said no Sunggyu in our room, I didn't agree." He opened his bottle and took a big gulp. "Plus, if I have to hear Kibum's whining for hours, you can bear with Sunggyu-hyung for half an hour or so."

Woohyun opened his own beer and took a sip. He didn't even know why he was acting like that, honestly. All he knew is that his heart had jumped at the sight of the brunette at his door. Yes, he was happy Sunggyu was there. But then, what should he do? Given what had happened between them last time, he didn't even dare to look at him in the eye. So he grabbed his phone and sent a text to Sungjong — Kibum would dramatize things too much.

To: Sungjongie

Sunggyu is here and I'm acting like a jerk again. What am I supposed to do?

He felt really stupid asking that, but again, it was just Sungjong. He felt even more stupid when he realized his roommate and Sunggyu had started their own conversation, not minding him at all. His phone vibrated and he looked at his friend's answer.

From: Sungjongie

Talk to him, you idiot! Like a normal human being, if possible. At best, you'll make a friend. Won't kill you.

He rolled his eyes. He could perfectly imagine the annoyed look on his friend's face. But, before he could reply anything, he heard a familiar voice calling his name.

"... right, Woohyun-ah?"

He blinked dumbly at Sungyeol. "Huh?"

The roommate rolled his eyes before repeating himself. "I said: you watch Game of Thrones as well, right?"

A smile immediately formed on his lips at the name of his favorite series and he turned to Sunggyu. "You watch it too?"

Somehow, Woohyun forgot about his embarrassment as he started to chat with the elder about their favorite series. The conversation flowed smoothly and it even looked like he had forgotten how to be a jerk for a moment. However, they were interrupted by Sunggyu's ringtone. He looked at the name on the screen and grunted.

"Yeah Hoya, we'll get going… No, of course we're not getting drunk without you guys... Lee Howon! Call me noona once again and I'll chop your head off!" He hung up and huffed in annoyance. He then turned to Sungyeol. "We should get going, apparently Myungsoo-ah keeps whining about your absence."

The younger rolled his eyes, but still nodded and emptied his bottle of beer. Then Sunggyu turned to Woohyun with a smile and the latter couldn't say that he hadn't been expecting it. "Want to tag along?"

Woohyun kept his smug mask on, asking where they were going. To that, Sungyeol answered with a chuckle: "The only logical place to be on a Friday night!"

He understood that his roommate meant the club, but Woohyun couldn't help but think they didn't have the same definition on that logical place to be on a Friday night: to him, it was his bed. He asked himself what he should do. They hadn't talked about that possibility with his friends and he wasn't sure of what he wanted: he wanted to be in the elder's presence longer, but at the same time he really didn't want to.

Screw my complicated feelings!

He threw a last glance at Sunggyu before answering. "Okay."

* * *

This time, Woohyun made sure not to drink too much. He wasn't sure himself of what he was trying to prove, but he had to be at least a tiny bit sober for that. He looked at Myungsoo, who was in a heated debate with Sungyeol about the pros and cons of having a monkey as a pet and studied his face. He knew Myungsoo was really handsome — everybody knew that. However, he never felt attracted to him. That probably meant he wasn't gay, right? Then, he turned to Sunggyu, who shot him a smile and his heart skipped a beat. Oh god.

The elder was about to say something when Woohyun's phone rang. He excused himself and got out of the noisy club before picking up.

"Yeah Sungjong-ah, what is it?"

His friend huffed at the other end of the line. "What do you mean, 'what is it'? I've been sending you texts for like an hour and you didn't answer! Just when things were getting interesting!"

Woohyun rolled his eyes. "Yah, what are you, my mom? I didn't notice the texts, I'm at the club."

Two gasps. Wait, two? "Is Kibum with you?"

He heard the noise of a cellphone being snatched away and he already had his answer. "Yes, I'm here! And don't you go anywhere, because we'll be there in half an hour!"

"What? You don't have the come! You'll just-"

He was soon cut off by his friend. "We're not leaving you a choice though! We've been trying to drag you there for months now and you've got a little romance going on there, so there's no way we're missing the show!"

"Oh come on guys, don't! You know I... Guys?!" He looked at his screen, only to see the call had ended. He muttered curses under his breath and was a second away from hitting his head on the wall when he heard a familiar voice.

"Is everything okay?" Sunggyu was looking at him with a smile. Apparently, seeing him in such a flustered state amused him quite a bit.

"Yeah... My stupid friends are coming."

The elder laughed and Woohyun swore that he wouldn't mind listening to that sound all day long. He frowned at the thought. "And here I thought you were mean only to me."

"Of course not. But being mean to everyone is a skill only the best of us can master."

Sunggyu raised an eyebrow. "You know that, out of the two of us, you are the one who sounds like a geek?"

The other shot him a smile. "I still can't believe you are in computer science."

Given the look on Sunggyu's face, it wasn't the first time he heard that. "Come on, we're not all living in a cave, playing WOW all day long."

And indeed, Woohyun could see this time that Sunggyu was the one Kibum and Sungjong had described. He knew too many people to count and everyone seemed to want to be his friend — or more. If last time, his desguise prevented him from being recognized most of the time, this Sunggyu with his leather jacket and wripped jeans was really popular.

"I see that..." He smirked. "Guess only the good ones do that."

Instead of feeling offended, Sunggyu just shrugged and answered with a smile: "I hope you know a good one, in case your computer breaks down."

Woohyun answered instinctively, as if he was used to giving this answer. "My baby would never break down, I take good care of it!"

However, he soon realized that what he had said probably sounded really stupid, as he heard the loud laugh of the other guy. "Seriously?! Haha in my three years of being surrounded by people who love computers, never once did I hear someone call their computer 'baby'!"

Woohyun pouted, partly because of the laugh, partly because he felt his cheeks heat up. He stomped back inside the club, the other soon following him. He didn't have to turn around to see that, he could hear where the other was going, thanks to his hysterical laughter.

When they were back to where their friends were, Sunggyu immediately told Sungyeol about the computer's nickname. To that, the tall guy only shrugged. "Yeah, I know, he always calls his computer baby. That's partly what makes me think he desperately needs someone!"

Woohyun shot him a glare as Sunggyu's laugh returned and he ordered a drink, in a vain attempt to hide his embarrassment. Of course, his computer's nickname and his loneliness had nothing to do with each other! Hell, he wasn't even lonely! Well, not that he would mind if a certain someone tried something on him again tonight, but that still didn't mean he was lonely. Without even noticing, his gaze had shifted towards Sunggyu. When Woohyun realized it, he shook his head.

God, what am I even thinking?! Of course, I don't want him to kiss me — again! He stared at his now empty glass with murderous eyes. You traitor!

However, his staring contest with his empty glass was interrupted by an arm around his shoulders and a voice too close to his ear for comfort — or maybe not close enough. "You're looking at your glass like it just killed your whole family." The statement was filled with amusement and Woohyun really didn't have to turn his head to know that it was Sunggyu.

"What if it did? Glasses might be more dangerous than you think..." He mentally patted his own back, proud of himself. Keeping calm enough around Kim Sunggyu to be able to retort something ironic seemed like an accomplishment. He knew it probably wasn't the kind of thing he should really be proud about, but hey, you've got to enjoy the little things.

He heard the guy chuckle before answering. "True, too many people underestimate the power and threat of glasses. That's why we fill them: so that they will remain busy and quiet." He quickly gestured the barman to fill both their glasses, even calling him by his name.

Woohyun rolled his eyes. Of course, Kim Sunggyu had to know the name of the barman. Then, he realized he had decided not to drink too much. "Who said I wanted it full? I'm a brave man, I can fight my glass on my own."

Sunggyu laughed in his ear, before taking a gulp of his own drink. "Then empty it quickly so that you can fight it soon, oh valiant warrior!"

Woohyun paused a few seconds. "This conversation is definitely weird." A quick side glance at Sunggyu was all it took for their eyes to meet and for them to start laughing like the stupid boys they were, the elder's arm never leaving the other's shoulder. And when they turned around to see Kibum and Sungjong, blankly staring at then as if they were crazy — and maybe they were, in fact — they started to laugh even more.

And at that very moment, in the middle of a crowded club, with cheap music blasting through his veins, in the midst of their hysterical laughs, Woohyun looked at Sunggyu and fell silent. He looked at the other, with his eyes reduced to two little crescents over a huge smile, and realized that this was probably more than pure physical attraction. There was something about this guy that he liked. He couldn't put his finger on it yet, but it was like he knew, somewhere deep inside of him that Sunggyu was an amazing person. A person he needed to know more about, as quickly as possible.

He was drawn out of his reverie by Sungjong, who nicely elbowed him on the side, and he tore his eyes away from Sunggyu who, thankfully, was too busy laughing to notice his — creepy — behaviour. When the laughter finally died down, Woohyun started to introduce his friends. "Guys, this is Sunggyu-hyung. Hyung, Kibum-ah and Sungjong-ah, my stupid friends."

Sunggyu smiled at them. "I've seen you before, right?"

"Well, we often come here and since you're always here, that's no wonder," Sungjong stated simply.

Woohyun thought for a second that Sunggyu might be offended by the remark, but it didn't seem like it. "True. But I'm kind of surprised. I had imagined all of Woohyun's friends would probably be unsociable geeks, like him."

At that, said unsociable geek threw him a death glare and pushed his arm off of him. Without another word, he took both of his friends' arms and went away to the other end of the club. However, his fake anger outburst only gained him a loud laugh from the brunette, who returned to Sungyeol and the others. As soon as he found himself far enough from Sunggyu, he regretted his decision, because his two friends started to ask him a hundred questions.

After a few minutes during which Woohyun felt like he was taking an exam, the two were left with only one question: "So, what was that earlier?"

"What?" Woohyun tried to sound innocent, as if he hadn't understood what Songjong was referring to, but he knew that a blush had crept up on his face — it seemed to happen a lot more these days.

Sungjong rolled his eyes. "You know exactly what I'm talking about! When you suddenly stopped laughing and started looking at that guy like he was the answer sheet for our comparative linguistics exam."

Even in this kind of situation, Woohyun couldn't help but chuckle at the comparison. "Nothing, okay? I drunk a couple of glasses already and I was sort of out a it for a moment, that's all." His two friends eyed him suspiciously and he sighed. "Come on, forget it, okay?"

Even when they went back to the counter to order some drinks, they didn't really mingle with the others so Woohyun stayed with his two friends — to his disappointment. Sometimes, Sunggyu would throw a smile at him, but that was it. He was really starting to regret having told Singjong where he was. As expected, now he couldn't get a second to himself.

At one point, he got tired of it. He had come to be with Sunggyu. No matter where he was in the crowded club, his eyes were searching for the other. But the two wouldn't hear any of it. They said that, since he never went out with them, they wanted to keep him to themselves this time. So, when the two were looking the other way, discussing about whether that girl's cleavage was enough or not, Woohyun made his way through the crowd without a word and found himself next to the guy who wouldn't leave his thoughts.

Sunggyu cocked an eyebrow at him. "Did you lock your friends in the restroom or something?"

Woohyun sighed. "Almost. It was tempting." He ordered a drink for himself and one for Sunggyu and gulped his own in one go. "I love them, but sometimes it feels like I'm with my parents!"

The elder's laugh once again echoed in Woohyun's head. "Aigo, Woohyunnie can't go anywhere without his parents!" He pinched his cheek, but soon stopped and gestured behind him. "Looks like your parents are already here to pick you up." Woohyun grunted, but Sunggyu took his hand and leaned close to his ear. "Let's run away." He pulled back just a little to look in the younger's eyes with a spark of malice.

It only took one nod and they were running out of the club, away from the crowd and loud music.

They ran and ran.

Woohyun was certain at some point that the others were not after them anymore — if they ever were — but kept running anyway. They kept running in the cold streets until both of them were completely out of breath. They fell down on the pavement their hands still linked and started to laugh. It was a weird laugh, interrupted every so often by hard breathing and coughing, but it was free and liberating.

When he regained enough breath, Woohyun, his back resting on the wall behind him, turned to his friend — he guessed he could probably call him that at that point. "There's something about you, Kim Sunggyu."

The other turned to him as well. "Yeah I know, I'm awesome."

Woohyun chuckled because he simply didn't have enough energy left to laugh properly anymore. "I would've said crazy."

Sunggyu shrugged. "Fine by me." A smirk formed on his face. "You like it."

It wasn't a question, just a statement. And Woohyun could say that the guy in front of him had too much ego or an oversized self-esteem, but he knew he was right.

It wasn't a question, but he answered him anyway. "Yeah, I do."

It was all it took for Sunggyu to lean closer and press his lips against Woohyun's ones.

This time, the kiss was slow and sweet. It was not about alcohol and loud music and instincts anymore, no. This time, Woohyun felt like it was a piece of puzzle falling perfectly into place. It felt as right as last time felt wrong. He didn't care anymore about whether he was gay or not, whether his friends would accept that. It was Sunggyu and it felt right.

When they separated and Woohyun looked into those beautiful deep brown eyes, he couldn't help but lean in once again and drop a small kiss on Sunggyu's lips. Seeing the other smiling the sweetest smile at that, he couldn’t bring himself to regret it. After a few seconds of silence during which the elder caressed Woohyun's cheek, he got up and pulled the younger on his feet as well. "Let's get you home, okay?"

On the way to Woohyun's dorm, Sunggyu asked in a worried voice: "Maybe... I shouldn't have done that, since you already have someone in your life."

The other turned to him, confused. "What are you talking about?" He couldn't say that his heart didnt sink a little at Sunggyu's words. But then, the elder turned to him with an amused smile on his face.

"Well, you have your baby, you know... It might get jealous..."

Woohyun punched him in the arm for that. Hard. And pouted, for good measure. He should've never told him about his stupid computer.

They continued to bicker all the way to the dorm, but once they were in front of Woohyun and Sungyeol's room, silence fell upon them. The younger would've lied if he said he knew what he was supposed to do. He had no idea what was happening and he had no idea what they were.

Sunggyu seemed to see the hesitation in the other's eyes, so he cupped his cheeks and dropped a kiss on his forehead, before letting out a simple 'goodbye', accompanied with a breathtaking smile. He watched Sunggyu walk down the hall and saw him disappear as he turned the corner.

He stood there, frozen, his thoughts flying around in his head. But in the midst of confusion his brain was in, there was one thing he was sure about: that smile would be the death of him.

* * *

The next day, Woohyun was woken up by his roommate's loud snoring. He looked over at Sungyeol, who was still fully clothed, with an arm and a leg hanging from the bed. He wondered how much pushing it would take to make him fall, but brushed off the idea when he remembered that a tired Sungyeol was a y Sungyeol. So instead, he just got up, started the coffee machine and went to take a shower.

There, under the hot water, he let his mind play back all the details about the night before. He had been afraid to find out that, in the morning, all the things that had made his heart beat a little faster would just seem empty and stupid, that it would all feel wrong again. But it didn't.

He remembered the discussions about glasses, computers and friends and he chuckled.

He remembered the way Sunggyu had kissed him slowly, like he was afraid to break him or scare him away — not like that had happened before... — and his heart skipped a beat.

He remembered the light kiss on his forehead and he smiled to himself.

Oh god, I've got it bad...

He got dressed and went to check on the coffee. He poured himself a cup and was about to drink it when he heard a knock on the door. He immediately stopped all his movements and stared at the door, as if it would tell him who was behind it, but the wooden pannel remained silent — thankfully. So Woohyun put his cup back on the counter and made his way to the door, his heart beating fast. His heart was hoping it was a certain Kim Sunggyu, but his embarrassment was hoping it was just Myungsoo.

He opened the door and found his answer. A smile crept onto his face as he saw Sunggyu, wearing a fluffy white sweater that revealed its fair share of collarbone. He cleared his throat. "Hi."

He was answered by an amused laugh. "Wow, you said hello today! What is the probability you're not going to slam the door in my face now?"

Woohyun tried his best to frown and look angry. "It decreases with every word you say."

"Okay, so I'm going to make it short: how about breakfast?"

The reflex for the younger would have been to immediately scream 'yes', but he held it in. Instead, he cocked an eyebrow. "You do know its already eleven, right?"

The boy at the door just shrugged. Woohyun imagined that people who went to the club rarely ate breakfast before that. He looked at his roommate, still snoring at the other end of the room. He would be surprised if he even woke up in time for lunch. He turned back to the boy still waiting in the doorframe. "Okay."

* * *

They went to a small café near the dorm, where they ordered coffee and probably too many pastries. Their conversations were easy and their silences comfortable. Woohyun thought he wouldn't mind eating breakfast at eleven more often if that meant he would eat it with Sunggyu — although he would probably get fat.

When they went out, they started to walk aimlessly, not really caring where their steps led them. They ended up on a bench in a quiet park. The sun was making its way through the tree branches and all that could be heard were the birds above their heads. Woohyun wondered why he didn't come there more often. He heard a chuckle and turned to Sunggyu.

"What are you thinking about?"

Woohyun answered before even thinking. "That the outside world isn't that bad actually." He immediately regretted his words when he heard the other's laugh. God, I really need a filter! However, he couldn't bring himself to care, not when he could hear that melodious laugh.

He looked at the beautiful boy next to him, the way his eyes were reduced to crescents so small that he wondered if he could still see something through them, the way he threw his head back in laughter and the way he bit his bottom lip to try to calm his laughter.

Woohyun couldn't help it. He leaned closer and dropped a kiss on those lips. When he realized what he had just done, he backed up quickly, looking anywhere but at Sunggyu. "Sorry, I just... Sorry."

The other had fallen quiet in an instant, but the smile never left his face. He gently cupped Woohyun's face in his hands and looked straight in his eyes. "Don't apologize." And with that, he kissed him again.

* * *

Woohyun was sitting on Sunggyu's bed, the last episode of Game of Thrones on pause on the latter's computer, in front of him. He was patiently — as patiently as he could — waiting for the other to come back with their cups of tea. It had been a month since the two started dating and they had made it a habit to go to the club every Friday and spend every Saturday night in one of their rooms — preferably Sunggyu's, because he didn't have an annoying roommate.

Woohyun threw a glare at the computer screen. He really hated when his boyfriend paused in crucial moments to go make tea. Seriously, who had time for that when someone was about to die?! Okay, there’s always someone about to die in this series, but well...

"Why are you looking at my computer with that much anger? Are you jealous because it’s still working, unlike yours?"

The angry look was immediately redirected to the owner of the amused voice. "I'm sure you killed my baby somehow. You were jealous of it."

The other made his way to him, placed the two cups on the table next to the bed and passed his arm around Woohyun's shoulders. "Right. I know now that to flirt with you, I shouldn't have dressed as a girl, but desguise as a computer."

Woohyun snorted but still nuzzled his head in the crook of his boyfriend's neck. "That's gross." He paused, remembering something. "You never told me what bet you lost to dress like that."

Sunggyu laughed. "Oh right! Well, to make it short, we all knew that Hoya had a crush on Dongwoo. So we made a bet, Myungsoo and I, about who would be the first of us Hoya would admit it to."

It was Woohyun's turn to laugh. "God, I would've died to see Myungsoo as a girl, that would be so funny!"

"Dressing as a girl wasn't the punishment though." Woohyun looked up at him, curious and saw Sunggyu grimace and look at him for a moment, hesitating. He immediately gave him puppy eyes, so that the other would have no other choice but to tell him — it worked every single time. "Okay, okay." He sighed. "It was to seduce you, following Sungyeol's plan."

The room suddenly fell silent.

"So I was... a bet?"

Sunggyu had been a little bit afraid about the other's reaction, but it wasn't what he had expected. Woohyun sure had spoken those words, but he could see that he was trying really hard to look mad, the corners of his lips curving up in a small smile that he was unable to suppress.

The elder tapped his chin in thought. "No, the punishment, actually."

He let out his laugh when the other punched him playfully on the arm and Woohyun's laugh soon followed. After a few seconds, the latter's laugh stopped abruptly, a grimace on his face. "God. I'm so glad Myungsoo didn't lose."

Sunggyu’s arms pulled Woohyun closer to him. “I still wouldn’t have let him have you.”

The younger snorted. “That’s weirdly cute, coming from the guy who just said I was a punishment.”

The other couldn’t help but kiss the pout on his boyfriend’s face. “Come on, you know very well you’re way more than that now.” He looked at him in straight in the eyes and kissed him again. “Let’s watch the end of the episode now, okay?”

Woohyun blinked. He almost had forgotten about the episode. So he just hummed happily and made himself comfortable in Sunggyu’s embrace.

“Gyu?”

“Mmm?”

“I think we should thank them.”

Two months before

“No, I’m telling you, he just stays in his bed all day long! I’m starting to wonder if he’s ever stepped out of our room since he arrived!”

Myungsoo asked calmly: “Why does it bother you so much? I mean, that’s better than having a roommate that keeps bringing girls back or something.”

Sungyeol threw his arms in the air. “It’s annoying! Every time I’m in the dorm, I have to see his face. All. The. Time.”

“What about you find him a girlfriend?”

The tall guy thought for a moment. “That’s actually a good idea. But I think he likes guys…” He saw the cocked eyebrow on his friend’s face and added: “I heard his friends talk about it once, when he was in the bathroom. Something about him being gay but not wanting to admit it.”

This time, his friend sighed. “That’s more complicated then.”

They interrupted their conversation when they saw Myungsoo’s roommate come in with Dongwoo. Hand in hand. They immediately started to cheer. They had known for a while that Hoya had a huge crush on the other and they couldn’t help but be really happy for them.

Then, Sungyeol fell silent and patted Myungsoo’s shoulder, gaining his attention. “I’ve got an idea.”

He turned to the newly formed couple. “Guys, do you think you could still act like you two are not going out in front of Sunggyu-hyung?”

His friends looked at him, confused.

“I think I might have a plan to get my stupid roommate’s off his bed a little…”
