The third day of December is a very memorable date for Jongin. It’s as memorable as an anniversary but only it wasn’t. It is the date of the end of his relationship with his ex-boyfriend and it had been exactly five years.

The young CEO couldn’t help but mentally wince at the pain that never seemed to ease even a bit for the past five years. He took a deep breath, glanced out the window and smiled as his homeland came into view hundreds of meters below him.

He hoped he could make everything right once he comes out of the plane.

“Good morning,” he greeted at the woman behind the counter as he arrived in the lobby. “I know I have no appointment to see Mr. Park but can I see him, please?”

The woman looked up to him, eyes stuck on his facial features before smiling and reaching for the phone. “Can I have your name, sir?”

“Kim Jongin.”

The woman waited for a few seconds and he couldn’t help but think how long did it took the receiver to pick up the phone. “Good morning, President Park. A Mr. Kim Jongin would like to see you.”

Jongin could hear the man’s muffles voice from the phone and he was sure that it was of disbelief. He was soon given the approval to see the man he wanted to meet with a young man leading his way up to the President’s office.

Once he entered the office and closed the door behind him, the man behind the desk was glaring at him.

“What’s up, Chanyeol?”

“Just what the are you doing here? You didn’t tell me you’ll be back here!” Chanyeol, the President, stood up from his swivel chair while tearing a piece of paper from the nearby memo pad, crumpling it and throwing it towards the visitor.

“It’s my hometown,” Jongin answered, successfully dodging the crumpled paper.

“I could have sent a car to pick your expensive CEO from the airport!”

He laughed and shook his head. “I’m just a CEO in the US but not in here.” He walked across the room and sat down on the couch when Chanyeol motioned for him to do so.

“But man, Baekhyun’s going to be so pissed when he sees you.”

“Why is that? I didn’t do anything.” He politely rejected the President’s offer of a cup of tea with his hand.

“Not to him,” Chanyeol said, sitting across him, and giving him a knowing look.

“Yeah,” he nodded. “I know. But I had reasons. We had reasons.”

Jongin knew exactly what they were talking about and it couldn’t be anything else but Kyungsoo. Their relationship eventually went out of spark because of their careers. If he wasn’t the one going home late, it would be Kyungsoo and they barely spent time together even if they were in the same roof. Kyungsoo was a chef and he, of course, was just promoted from a stock holder.

“But you’re obviously doing well,” the President said.

“Quite. I’d like to see Kyungsoo too. Is he still working in—.”

“He isn’t now,” Chanyeol quickly interrupted.

“Then where is he?” Instead of receiving an answer, he received nothing. He just watched the other purse his lips tightly, a sign of no response to give.

“Is he fine?”

“He is.”

“That’s good to know.”

Jongin didn’t plan to waste his best friend’s working time to catch up with each other’s lives with chit-chats because there’s a right time for it. He’d be staying in Seoul for three months and there’s enough time for everything.

He went home in his reserved and rented apartment to stay in for his vacation. It’s not exactly he thinks as home but he had nowhere else to call that other than the apartment he used to share with Kyungsoo a few blocks away. But he was sure Kyungsoo moved out years ago.

He changed into warm clothes, making sure to have his scarf worn properly just like how Kyungsoo used to teach him.

Staring at his reflection in the mirror, a frown formed in his face. It’s because everything just reminded him of Kyungsoo and that’s one reason why he could never move on.

He still loves him even within those five long years without seeing him.

I’ll make everything right, he reminded himself. That was his purpose of staying there after all.

The park nearby was empty as he approached it. It was cold and nobody wanted to be there but that didn’t stop him. He used to spend his time with Kyungsoo in that place years ago and it makes him feel warm inside.

Happy memories.

A proof that he never fell out of love. Just like the old times.

But what caught his attention was a small kid, a boy jumping around the playground alone. As he went nearer, he realized the boy wasn’t just jumping around.

He was dancing.

Ballet.

The boy continued to dance, totally oblivious to his presence as he approached the playground. Jongin leaned his back against the swing’s slanted pole and watched the little boy.

“I used to dance ballet too,” he said, startling the kid to a halt and look up at him with big doe eyes – eyes that cunningly similar to Kyungsoo’s.

“My uncle said I inherited it from daddy,” the boy said.

Jongin didn’t catch up with the kid’s statement because not only did he find the eyes similar to Kyungsoo’s but also the cute, pouty lips.

“Who are you, mister?” the boy asked, interrupting Jongin’s thoughts.

“Me? Well, my name is Jongin. I live down the street.” He watched the boy sit on the empty swing just in time the kid’s scarf fell off his neck. He chuckled when the boy tried to wrap the scarf around his neck but miserably failed.

“Okay, kid. Why are you alone here?” Jongin crouched in front of the boy and fixed the piece of cloth. “Kids shouldn’t be left unattended by parents in the park and it’s very cold out here.”

“Appa is taking too long in there,” the boy answered, pointing at the grocery shop across the street. “So I went here to play.”

“You crossed the street alone?”

The boy nodded.

“That’s very dangerous.”

“But teacher said to look on the left then the right when crossing the street.”

He sighed, relieved that at least the kid successfully survived the dangers of the road. “What’s your name?”

“Youngjae.”

“Okay, Youngjae. Let’s get you back to your appa and I’m sure he’s really worried.”

Panic filled Kyungsoo’s mind when he looked back and found out that his son was no longer in sight. “Youngjae?”

He left his cart on the side and hurriedly passed by the shelves, eyes searching for a certain boy in a blue coat and white scarf but he failed even when he asked some shoppers.

For god’s sake, his son is just four years old and he can’t lose him in the grocery store.

He walked over to the counter, asked the cashier about the boy but received no answer. The cashier was too busy to even notice someone going in and out of the shop.

Without even in purpose, his eyes caught something familiar across the street, in the park.

Blue coat, he noted and without wasting any more time, he rushed out the door and crossed the street, panting heavily as he approached the playground.

There was a man too.

“Youngjae! I told you not to leave my side!” He grumbled as he neared the two figures, abruptly stopping on his feet when the man looked up to him with the same shocked expression that he had.

Jongin.

The boy named Youngjae hopped off the swing and ran towards him, both arms wrapping around his leg.

Both men just looked at each other until the crouching stood up from his position.

Kyungsoo was gotten out of trance when his son tugged on his coat’s sleeve, asking to be carried. And he did, momentarily taking his eyes off the familiar man.

“Kyungsoo.”

His arms tensed as he heard his name said by the man he had been missing for years.

“I thought he looked just like you,” Jongin managed to smile as their gaze met once again.

“Yeah,” he returned the smile and just hoped it didn’t look too forced.

“Appa, mister dance ballet too,” the boy said, unaware of the tension between the two men.

“Uhm, yes, he does,” Kyungsoo chuckled.

“Did,” Jongin corrected.

“Uhm, so, I’m really sorry about him. I was supposed to drop him off at Baekhyun’s but that idiot wasn’t there so I brought him to grocery shopping,” he said, trying to sound as casual as he could. “How long have you been here?”

“Just now—I mean, I arr
