Mr. Lee and Mr. Lee
“Oh, so you do remember to come home.” Donghae said sarcastically when Hyukjae stepped inside the posh penthouse.
“I told you I had a meeting.” Hyukjae replied with a scrunched up expressions. He was tired and the meeting wasn’t as fruitful as he had hoped.
Donghae made a show of looking at his watch. “Wow, you are so dedicated to your work, you stayed up until 1 AM just for a business meeting.”
“Donghae, I’m tired. Do you have anything you want to say?” Hyukjae sighed as made his way to the living room and stood in front of the fuming man.
Donghae raised an eyebrow. “I do Mr. Lee. Guess who I ran into at Perle?”
Hyukjae rubbed at his temple. “I’m not up to a guessing game Mr.Lee.”
Donghae scoffed. “Well, you’d be happily surprised then.” He paused for dramatic effect. “I ran into Han Financials’ Mrs Go and her lovely daughter.” He stopped and looked at Hyukjae.
“And?” Hyukjae prompted after half a minute of staring contest.
Donghae rolled his eyes. “Mrs. Go was under the impression that you are still a bachelor.”
Hyukjae hummed in understanding. He sat down beside his husband and started to ed his suit. “She told you that?” He asked as he loosened his tie.
Donghae mumbled under his breath, “Not really.”
“Care to elaborate?” Hyukjae had a small smile on the corner of his lips.
Donghae sneaked a glance at his direction and seeing the small smile he raised an accusing finger. “Don’t you dare smile! This is not funny! There’s nothing remotely funny about this! Hearing people say that YOU, no, MY HUSBAND, is a successful, handsome, SINGLE bachelor, is one thing. But hearing it being said in MY RESTAURANT, in front of ME, YOUR HUSBAND, is a bit too much!” Donghae said heatedly, his finger jabbing repeatedly at Hyukjae’s chest for emphasis.
Hyukjae caught Donghae’s wrist and bring the hand to his face. He eyed the simple gold band adorning the ring finger thoughtfully.
“To be fair, we never really did announce our wedding. Even in my company, only a handful of people know about it. I’m sure Mrs. Go had no idea that we’re married when he talked to you about me.” Hyukjae said.
The ensuing silence was enough of an indication that there were more to the outburst.
"Donghae?” Hyukjae called.
Donghae heaved a sigh and a slight blush tinted his cheeks. “We didn’t actually talk.” He mumbled.
“Oh?”
“Well, more like she talked about you with her daughter and I happened to pass by their table and caught part of it.” Donghae admitted.
Hyukjae tried his best to hold back his laughter. “In other words, you eavesdropped.”
“Did not! I told you, I happened to pass by. Not my fault that I have an exceptional hearing.” Donghae defended himself. “Oh, and do you know what else I heard?”
“For someone who just happened to pass by you sure heard an awful lot.” Hyukjae interjected.
Donghae pulled his hand free from Hyukjae’s grip and gave his husband a push. “As I was saying, Mrs. Go said that she would arrange a meeting between her daughter and you.” He continued.
Hyukjae was confused. “I didn’t know her daughter has a company.”
Donghae looked at him in annoyance. “What does that have to do with this?”
“But you said she wanted a meeting with me. That means she has some kind of business proposal for me, right?”
Donghae’s jaw dropped at hearing Hyukjae’s words. Hyukjae was a smart man, genius even, when it comes to business, but he was painfully oblivious and literal to other matters.
“No, Hyukjae! She meant match-making meeting, marriage proposal!” He half shouted at Hyukjae.
“Aaah, no wonder you got so mad.” Hyukjae nodded in understanding. He suddenly sat up straighter. “Wait. Are we having an argument right now?” He asked.
Donghae looked at him with unreadable eyes. His brows then knitted together. “I guess so?” He said after few moments of contemplation.
Hyukjae smiled at him. “Do you want me to officially announce our matrimony?”
Donghae sighed and leaned back on the couch. “Not really.” He said. “I kind of like the anonymity.”
Hyukjae took Donghae’s hand in his. “Then I won’t. And I’ll be sure to tell Kyu to turn down any request of meetings or proposals aside from business ones.”
Donghae finally smiled. “Thank you. Sorry for earlier.” He said softly.
“It’s okay.” Hyukjae squeezed his husband’s hand.
“Was the meeting rough?” Donghae asked.
Hyukjae snorted. “You have no idea. ICS Capital’s people sure know how to draw out a negotiation.”
Donghae winced in sympathy. “Donghwa hates them with a passion. He tried to avoid them as much as he can. He spent half a year to finalize a contract with them, but they asked for a revision the night before it was supposed to be signed. He was so furious he scrapped the whole project altogether.”
Hyukjae sighed. “I’m beginning to consider that option too.”
Donghae tapped Hyukjae’s shoulder with his head. “You’ll be okay. Sooner or later you’ll have them dancing in the palm of your hands.”
Hyukjae laughed. “Thank you. Your confidence in my abilities is a real ego boost.”
Donghae only hummed. Then he sat up straight. “Did we just make up?” He asked.
Hyukjae shrugged. “We did, I think.”
“Oh.” Donghae leaned back into the couch. “It wasn’t much of an argument anyway.”
Hyukjae grinned. “Actually, I’m more curious about you. How slow did you walk when you passed by their table? Because I’m positive that everything that you heard could not possibly be spoken in just 10 seconds or so.”
Donghae tried to pull his hand free again, but Hyukjae held fast. After a brief moment of tug-o-war, Donghae relented and let his husband held his hand.
“Well, they were sitting near one of the potted plant. So I might have stopped by to inspect the leaves. You know, to check if there’s any bug or caterpillar.” He admitted shyly.
Hyukjae burst out laughing. “Donghae, thank you for being so adorable. Now I feel so much better.”
“I’m so glad you found me so entertaining Mr.Lee.” Donghae mock pouted.
Hyukjae scooted closer and lifted their joined hands and kissed the back of Donghae’s hand. “Mmh. Pout all you want. I’m still YOUR Mr.Lee, and you’re still MY Mr. Lee.”
Later when the two of them had snuggled up in bed, Hyukjae chuckled and whispered in Donghae’s ear. “I’m also glad that you think I’m successful and handsome.”
“Oh God! Just shut up and sleep Mr.Lee.”
A bit of AN: This is actually another take of an idea I had about the oh-so-cliche plot of arranged marriage. If I managed to finish my other WIP, I might expand this verse. Also, I never really had the courage to write something based on other people's prompt, but i decided to challenge myself. So feel free to leave any idea or prompt for me. :)
