“i fell asleep on you and drooled all over your shoulder in a theater during a really bad movie and you were too nice to shove me off” au

Minjung had been looking forward to a girl’s night with her best friend but the other seemed more interested in texting their boyfriend. Not that she could blame Junghee, Jinki was literally the most perfect boyfriend who unfailingly accepted their identity and self-expression, unlike the last jerk Junghee had dated and had broken their heart.

Thankfully there weren’t that many people in the theater to be annoyed by the bright light coming from Junghee’s cell phone. She also couldn’t blame her friend for being on their phone because this was definitely Minjung’s type of movie and not Junghee’s. Junghee prefers epic romance stories where there is passion and excitement in every frame whereas Minjung has a much more eclectic taste in movies.

As the previews began playing, the lights dimmed and Minjung wiggled in her seat to get comfortable. She loved previews and was excited for the movie to get started. As the final preview played, another figure entered the theater and looked around as if unsure where to sit. Junghee squealed at their phone cutely, forcing Minjung’s attention back to her best friend where she pinched their side and gave them a harsh look. The blonde looked guiltily up at Minjung as they mouthed a silent, “Sorry,” before checking their phone again and storing it in their coat pocket. Minjung guessed that it would only take a minute before they were once again engrossed in their conversation with Jinki.

The first scene started and Minjung tried to return her attention to the screen, not wanting to miss anything. She had heard about this movie in her film appreciation class and wanted to make sure she enjoyed every second.

“Is this seat taken?”

The question came out of nowhere and made Minjung jump a little in her seat. She shook her head numbly, not really seeing the other person smile sweetly as they sat down in the seat next to Minjung. The red head looked around the theater to confirm that there were indeed a few dozen empty seats all around them, yet this stranger had decided to sit right next to her and Junghee. Confusion and a little bit of irritation took the place of Minjung’s shock but she tried not to show it even as she shifted a fraction of an inch closer to Junghee. Her friend, once again consumed by their phone, raised an eyebrow at Minjung slightly as a silent admonition to relax, but that was all they gave her before a new message came from Jinki and all of their attention was diverted to their phone.

As the movie continued, Minjung found herself taking extra note of the way her new seat mate would react to everything, making small sounds here or there as a new character or plot point was introduced on the screen. The sounds were annoying but also somewhat cute and before she knew it Minjung was also studying the young girl’s face as she made the noises.

The girl, at least she assumed she identified as such, sitting next to Minjung was breathtakingly beautiful and before long she was leaning back towards her. She didn’t even notice she was doing it until her arm rubbed against the other girl’s and she looked up at Minjung, a little smile on her face, before she returned her attention to the screen. A little thrill shot through the red head at the brief interaction and at the notion that the other hadn’t moved away from the sudden contact; instead, the other seemed perfectly content to share the armrest with Minjung.

Out of the corner of their eye, Junghee caught the two and smiled, texting Jinki with little update on the situation. Minjung wasn’t generally attracted to most people so they were excited to see her acting so shy.

Forty minutes into the movie and Minjung was thoroughly entranced by the storyline. She was still hyper aware of the girl sitting next to her but she couldn’t help but be drawn in by the interesting characters and slow moving plot that her professor and assured her she would love. There was just something so poetic about the story and it spoke to Minjung in a way that only her favorite movies could.

The camera zoomed in on the main character, who was watching a scene from afar, and Minjung held her breath as the actor’s tears began to roll beautifully down their face. The emotion was so raw and so real that it completely took her by surprise when a soft yet solid weight thumped onto her shoulder and forced her attention back to her surroundings. Minjung looked down and found that the girl sitting next to her had fallen asleep and was now resting her head against Minjung’s shoulder.

Soft lights from the movie screen perfectly illuminated the girl’s peaceful face as her dark locks outlined a round face with fine cheekbones and a perfect button nose. Her lips were slightly open as she continued to sleep and Minjung couldn’t help but admire their somewhat chapped state and perfect pink hue. This was the face of an angel.

An angel who had begun drooling all over Minjung’s shoulder.

Not sure what to do, Minjung tried to glance over at Junghee only to notice that the other had disappeared. No doubt they had left to either meet up with Jinki or make a very private phone call, but now was really not the time to abandon ship. Minjung needed them! How else would she know what to do when there was a sleeping, drooling angel on her shoulder?

Deciding it would be better to act as if nothing out of the ordinary was happening, Minjung waiting patiently for Junghee to return and tried to once again focus on the movie.

Junghee never returned and the sleeping girl didn’t wake up even as the movie credits began rolling. The other people in the theater slowly rose from their seats and exited the theater, leaving Minjung and the sleeping girl alone. As the credits finished rolling, Minjung found herself blinded as the full theaters lights were once again turned back on. She winced at the sudden brightness, her jerky movements causing the other girl’s head to roll off of her shoulder and onto her chest, shaking her awake.

Her head rubbed against Minjung’s s and she tried not to in a deep breath as the action caused a sharp tinge of lust to shoot through her body. There really wasn’t anything ual about the situation, but she couldn’t help but feel utterly and hopelessly attracted to the other girl as she blearily blinked and rested her head fully against Minjung’s s as if they were a pillow.

“Um…” Minjung said, not quite knowing what to say but also afraid that a worker would come in to clean the theater and find them in this strange and slightly personal predicament. “Are you awake?”

The other girl froze in her nuzzle to Minjung’s chest and looked up to see a pained yet concerned look on the red head’s face. As if realizing what had happened, she sat bolt upright and attempted to flatten her somewhat mussed hair. She also wiped her hand across as if she could feel the left over remnants of her drool and she turned slowly with a wide and terrified gaze to look at Minjung straight on.

“Oh. My. God.” She said, looking down to Minjung’s shoulder and seeing her slightly soaked shirt sleeve. “Oh my god, did I drool on you?!” Her anxiety caused her words to grow slightly higher in pitch until the last word came out in a tiny squeak and Minjung couldn’t help but laugh. The other looked affronted but also returned Minjung’s smile by chuckling a little at the situation too.

“It’s okay, really. I just didn’t know how to wake you…” Minjung finally supplied, hoping that the girl would take the bait and not press for the actual reason Minjung hadn’t bothered to wake her up.

“I am so sorry. I never should have come here after my work shift…” Before she could finish an employee entered the theater and began walking down the first few aisles picking up trash. The other girl had trailed off, leaving the two sitting in silence as Minjung attempted to contact Junghee to yell at them for leaving her alone in the theater. Conveniently, their phone was dead or just turned off, so Junghee missed the slew of angry messages that Minjung was sending them until her texting tirade was cut short by a loud, “Taeyeon-ssi? What’re you doing here? You said you had to go home!”

The worker was staring at the girl next to Minjung as if he knew her. Minjung glanced between the two, Taeyeon looking bashful as the other studied her intently.

“Yah, you little . Get home already!”

“Key, let me explain,” she whined cutely, standing up to rush down the aisle and talk in hushed tones to the other. Key kept glancing up at her as Taeyeon spoke and Minjung grew more and more uneasy, hurrying to grab her things and exit the auditorium as soon as she could. This was just getting weirder and weirder.

“Dammit, Tae!” Key hissed at something the other said and Minjung took that as her cue to leave. She made her way down the stairs and tried to rush past the two but Taeyeon reached out to catch her elbow.

“Wait! I-uh-“ she caught herself as Key grunted, eventually drawing the other girl down the hallway to the main door and away from Key’s prying eyes. “I-uh-wanted to say thanks again and just apologize for falling asleep on you. I promise I don’t normally make a habit of falling asleep on cute girls in movie theaters…” she trailed off, a blush spreading across her cheeks.

Minjung stared dumbfounded as the other girl seemed to be emboldened by her returned blush and she leaned forward to brush a lock of red hair behind her ear. Even though she was slightly taller than Taeyeon, the younger girl had no problem leaning in and breathing in Minjung’s scent at the crook of her neck. “You smell so good,” she whispered seductively, causing another shiver to course through her until Taeyeon had stepped back and was smiling devilishly.

“Why don’t we do this again sometime, only I promise not to fall asleep on you…” she paused as if thinking about something for a minute. Minjung stood there mutely, a sinking feeling hitting her stomach as if she already knew she would agree to anything this girl asked of her. “That is, I promise not to fall asleep on you unless you want me to,” and with a wink, Taeyeon was drawing Minjung into a brief kiss before she released her and grabbed her phone out of her pocket, entering her number in before sending herself a quick text.

“I’ll call you, yeah? Sorry, but I’ve gotta go or Key will kill me,” she said, smiling brightly before hopping off down the hall and into a side door marked for employees only.

Minjung looked down at her phone before turning around to find Junghee talking to the employee from earlier – Key – who was also animatedly talking to Jinki. Feeling that this was more and more a set up, she walked down until she could overhear them talking but they hadn’t seen her coming since they were hiding in an alcove.

“They were so cute together, I wanted to pinch myself!” Junghee gushed, looking up at Jinki adoringly. “You have such great plans, Jinki-yah.”

“Hey, I resent that,” Key interjected, flicking Junghee on the arm lightly before they began to speak over each other in rushed tones.

Minjung cleared loudly and looked pointedly at her best friend, who was now avoiding eye contact and not-so-subtly trying to hide behind Jinki.

“You’re the worst. I love you!” she said, squealing with excitement as she jumped up and down, pouncing on the short blonde until they had joined in.

Taeyeon watched the scene from down the hall and smiled, taking a picture of Minjung jumping so cutely and saving the image as her profile picture for her contact information. She didn’t know how her cousin knew Minjung, but boy was she glad she’d listened to Jinki for once. Even though falling asleep and drooling all over Minjung definitely hadn’t been part of the plan, she was happy that everything had worked out nicely.
