"I love you."

 

That's all I said in my drunken state, although slightly drunk I am still coherent and well aware of what just left my mouth. I gather my things and quickly stumble out of your place, embarrassed by having spoiled the evening by saying something stupid.

Again, we are together. You don't bring up what I had said the night before but I can see it in your eyes, I know that "I love you" is just another line to you. You are used to hearing that same old lie, and you despise that "lie" you heard the night before. You heard it time and time, that same old line but my feelings are sincere that line is no lie. I love you. It's true, I've never been that sincere before. I've always tried to be clever, to come up with smart lines to make my feelings known, to make that meaning come through. But I always say I'll wait until the evening gets late, and I'm alone with you. Your perfume fills my head, the stars get red, the night is so blue. I go again and spoil this beautiful night by saying,

 

"I love you."

 

I end up repeating that same line I told you the night before. Your scent made me drunk, and made me say something stupid again. This time you stop my trying to leave, you lean close to me and softly kiss my lips. You go and save this night by saying something stupid like, 

 

"I love you."
