Ramen

Almost Like A Dream

“The real Minhyuk!?” I asked surprised. “I saw him one day at this very park, and I admired him from afar. I watched him dance passionately in that same spot, and couldn’t help but imagine if I had a man like that. I imagined it, but I didn’t have the guts to talk to him. And well…you know the rest of the story.”

I looked back at the actual Minhyuk, as I was processing what she just told me.

“Well it’s about time I go now.” I looked back at her. “Don’t make the same mistake I did. Go and talk to him.” She finished with a forced smile and entered the car with the government officials. As everything became organised in my head, I bowed down as she was leaving and said, “Thank you.”

I turned around and took a deep breath before walking up to him. He noticed me from the corner of his eye and turned off his music.

“I’m sorry. Was I bothering you?” he said while bowing apologetically. I couldn’t help but stare at his face and compare it to my Minhyuk. I said it once and I’ll say it again, Yori really did an amazing job.

“Excuse me miss?” he tried to get my attention. “Oh s-sorry.” I stuttered. “I-I was just watching you dance.” I took another deep breath. “You’re really good!”

A smile appeared on his face. “That’s really nice of you to say, but I still have a lot to improve on.”

I instantly smiled when he did, like it was a reflex. “I’m no dancer, but I know a good dancer when I see one.” I remarked. He gave me another smile and gestured me to come towards him. I did that, and he moved beside me. “I’m Minhyuk by the way.” I smiled when he said his name. “I’m _________.” I looked up at him. “It’s nice to meet you.”

He started moving his body and told me to follow along. “Try this dance move.” He said while demonstrating. I tried to copy his movements, but I failed obviously. He laughed a bit at my actions, but he came up behind me and moved my arms. He told me what to do, while he moved my arms.

“Now you got it!” he said after an hour of trying. “I’m not exactly good at this…” I trailed off. He smiled at me. “Dancing is hard for someone who hasn’t danced before, and it’s not for everyone, so don’t feel bad.” I smiled back at him and asked, “Are you a dancer or something?” He became serious for a moment. “I’m trying to be. I gave up so much to do so.” I didn’t want to pry into his personal life, so I just nodded.

“Is it okay if I watch you dance?” I asked. He looked at me like I was crazy. “I’m going to be practicing for a while though, are you okay with that?” he replied. I nodded and said, “Yeah. I’d really like to watch you.”

I spent the next few hours watching him dance, until we both got hungry. He insisted on treating me to a meal, since I watched him dance for hours. I figured he wouldn’t back down, so I accepted.

We went to a place that had amazing ramen that he usually goes to after he practices by himself. We really bonded over ramen. He told me that he didn’t always want to dance, but he wants to pursue it since it’s the only thing he’s passionate about.

“I’m sure you’ll become a great dancer. I’m not just saying it. I honestly think you’re really good.” I told him with a smile. A huge smile appeared on his face. He took his bowl of ramen and put some of his into my bowl. “Why are you giving me more?” I inquired. He took a sip of water. “As a thanks for your kind words. Plus, I like a girl that eats well.” I blushed and ate the rest of my ramen.

From that moment on, I watched him dance when I didn’t have school or assignments to do. He always danced with such passion; it’s always amazing to watch. He would always take me out for a meal after he practiced, but I sometimes paid since I felt really bad for him paying all the time.

It’s almost been a month since we first met. As I was getting ready to go see him, my doorbell rang. I answered it to find a sad looking Minhyuk.

“What’s wrong?” I asked him. He forced a smile. “I won’t be able to see you anymore.”

I felt my heart sink.  Thoughts of losing a Minhyuk again terrified me. “Wh-What do you mean?” I was terrified to find out what.

“I’ll be doing intensive training to improve on my dancing, so I’ll have to stay at a dorm and just focus on dancing.” My mood dropped considerably. “How long will it be?” I asked. He looked down and became sadder. “A year…”

I became as sad as him and sat down on the couch to process everything. He sat down beside me and took a deep breath. “I did something like this to my ex-girlfriend, and she left me because of it.”

I just finished reading this, and I gotta say it was good, like really really good. The plot was different from the usual love stories out there which made more fun to read. 2 thumbs up! From a fellow Canadian :)
