"Did It Work?"

The Pianist

Minseok opened his eyes to a dim room.

What happened?

Minseok groaned as he sat up. His head and stomach hurt. He scanned the area.

Where am I?

Suddenly a bright light hit him, making him squint. He could make out something black standing in the doorway.

A silouette with a horrible bedhead.

When it neared, it seemed more like a

clone.

Minseok rubbed his eyes but the same messeges were sent to his head.

"You're awake." The mirror said. Minseok nodded in a daze.

Is this the witch to break my curse?

Sohee stood over him with hands resting on her waist.

"Jongdae left."

Right...Jongdae...Sohee...pitch black-

Minseok finally remembered that he out.

"What time is it?" He asked in a slight panic.

"Eleven-fifteen." She answered lamely. Minseok groaned and lie back against the sofa he had just noticed he was on. It was soft too. And bouncy. But nevermind that.

"I'm sorry. I must have been a burden-"

"What did you want before crushing me earlier?" Sohee asked, monotoned. It took a moment for Minseok to remember why he was there.

"Do you have a piano?" Minseok asked. Sohee sighed before walking over to a dark corner. Her silouette shrunk down to the floor.

"No." She replied dully. "At least not anymore." Minseok leaned forward to get a better look at the person he was talking too. If only she didn't give him chills, he would have walked over to her.

"Um. Why not?" Minseok decided to ask. He could see Sohee's side face as she turned her head.

"I don't play anymore so I gave it away. It's a piece of trash now anyway." Sohee answered. Minseok nodded. If only he could give his away too. But no, he had one more song to play and getting this girl out of her house seemed a little hard for some reason.

"Ah. I see." Minseok acknowledged. "Since you don't have a piano anymore, could you maybe come over to my house and teach me something?" Minseok asked.

Sohee didn't move a muscle.

"Umm." Minseok decided to move forward. "Do you know the song Heart and Soul by any chance?" He asked.

Sohee stayed silent, leaving Minseok to drown in silence by himself.

"Sohee."

"What are you to Jongdae?" Sohee asked. Minseok tried to catch her face but the corner was too dark.

"I'm his best friend." Minseok answered. Sohee scoffed in a sad manner, according to Minseok.

"Already? That kid moves fast. He's always making me jealous." Sohee said to herself but loud enough that Minseok could hear a peep of it.

"So can you come out of your house then?" Minseok asked again. Sohee stood from her spot.

"No need." Sohee said before sliding open a door that appeared out of nowhere.

Minseok raised himself up just enough to catch a glimpse of the contents of the room.

There were stacks and stacks of piano keyboards in all sorts of colors. The ones on the bottom were brighter colors than the ones nearing the top.

Maybe that's when her life went downhill?

Minseok couldn't help but stare with an open mouth.

"But I thought you threw..." Minseok started but he noticed he had said piano, not keyboard. "Carry on." He urged.

Sohee pulled out the vantablack colored piano from the very top then lie it on the floor.

"Come here. I know the song." She said.

Minseok groaned in exhaustion as he managed to plumet gracefully to the hard floor. He crawled the rest of the way to Sohee although he still wasn't sure about her.

But she was his savior so he had no choice.

Sohee scooted to the left of the piano to make room for Minseok as he approached.

Once Minseok settled down and stopped wheezing, they began to play.

They both played naturally to the beat of the other.

They hit the notes at the same time and even hummed.

Minseok couldn't help but smile at Sohee.

Sohee held a straight face until Minseok looked away then she let out a slight smile.

A smile she hadn't formed on her face since he left.

"High-five!" Minseok exclaimed excitedly after they hit the last note. After being left hanging, he cleared his throat and thanked Sohee.

Sohee put her keyboard away and turned back to Minseok.

"You're welcome. Now go away." She said simply, before walking into a separate room. "Lock the door on your way out." She called back.

Minseok nodded although Sohee couldn't see it and did as he was told before heading home in the dark.

He went straight to bed with a light heart. He felt relieved that he wasn't going to turn into dust anymore.

Jongdae took his usual morning walk with his thoughts and soothing voice.

It is a bright and sunny day today.

"Ah. What a day." He says to himself. "Such a familiar day too." He says, reminiscing his past.

"Hyung-Hyung!" Jongdae called out to Sohee and her boyfriend. Jongdae had an ice cream cone in his hand as he ran over to the two.

"Ah. Orange! Hey! What's up these days?" He asked as Jongdae jumped on him, dropping his ice cream.

"Hyung, I missed you~!" Jongdae stated. He hugged Jongdae as well.

"You dropped your ice cream, Orange." He pointed out. Jongdae didn't let go of him.

"I can just get another one, Hyung!" Jongdae said, once he noticed Sohee. Jongdae switched onto Sohee and jumped on her as well.

"Noona! I missed you so much!" Jongdae stated. Sohee chuckled and peeled Jongdae off, handing him a dollar.

"Go buy another ice cream then come back, okay?" Sohee said. Jongdae nodded with a wide smile and ran off.

Jongdae's phone rang.

"Did it work?" Was Jongdae's first question when he picked up.

"NO!" Minseok yelled from the other line. "Come over immediately!"

Then the phone line went dead.

Jongdae hung up and rushed to Minseok's huge mansion.
