Ch. 7: Grocery Shopping and Dance Classes

Opposites Attract, Right?
"...Appa?"

Upon hearing Henry's voice, both Donghae and Hyukjae pulled away from each other's inviting lips, the latter getting a bit worried about exposing himself like this to his son.

Hyukjae never really was the type to show public displays of affection, but he wasn't against it, either; however, if children are present, then yes, Hyukjae was against it. The father didn't even understand why he leaned over to kiss Donghae, and so he chose to blame it on how his friend's attractive looks were inevitable. That is all. No more, no less.

"Yes, Henry?" Hyukjae responded to the pre-schooler. From the corner of his eyes he saw Donghae looking elsewhere, his lips doing weird moves as if he were trying to hold back a silly grin. Though he felt like teasing Donghae for acting weird, Hyukjae didn't.

Henry wasn't going to ask why Donghae and he were kissing, was he? How is he to respond to that if he doesn't know the answer himself?

"Is there more pizza?"

Oh.

So he didn't see them.

Letting out the biggest sigh of relief he's ever done, Hyukjae went back to smiling at his son. "Of course, you hungry hippo," He teased his son, who began to giggle. "Do you want some more?"

Henry nodded. "Okay, wait."

Hyukjae got up from the floor and headed over to the nearby coffee table, having to cross over his two sons' bodies. As soon as he got the second to last slice of Hawaiian Pizza for Henry, Hyukjae passed it to Kyuhyun to pass to Henry before he excused himself.

"Where are you going?" Donghae asked from  his seat, a childish pout gracing his lips. Have Donghae's lips always looked so soft? Because they certainly did feel soft.

Shaking his head in hopes to wash off those weird thoughts, Hyukjae replied. "I need to get something from my bedroom," He replied, gesturing a thumbs up for less than two seconds. Surprisingly Donghae believed him, or he just decided to not push things further.

Hyukjae stayed in his room for the last twenty minutes of the movie, trying to rationalize reasons on why he let himself kiss Donghae after just a month of knowing him.

He certainy wasn't someone easy, and he only had two past relatinships—one in middle school, the other his ex-wife. But Leeteuk and Sungmin did mention that once he found attraction in someone, he unconsciously tends to rush into a more intimate relationship with them. That was their conclusion after he proposed to the girl he used to think was "the love of his life."

Sure, Donghae was—is a nice guy, and Hyukjae really does feel stress run away when they talk; but the thing is, Donghae's the same gender as him. That, apparently, was not morally correct... However, this whole new experience was quite exciting, to be completely honest. He kissed Donghae, and it was less nerve-wrecking than thinking that Henry might've seen them.

"I'm putting too much thought in this," Hyukjae mumbled to himself as he stood up from his mattress. "It was just an innocent kiss," He added before agreeing to himself with a nod.

Going back to the living room, Hyukjae was pleasantly surprised to see both the kids and Donghae laughing over the animated film.

Donghae, feeling the presence of Hyukjae, looked away from the tv and brought his attention to the older. "I thought you were going to get something...?" He asked as Hyukjae went back to sit next to him.

The latter shrugged. "Forgot what it was," He nonchalantly replied before hearing the younger chuckle softly. "So what's going on now?" He added, oblivious that the movie was already at the end.

"Well, the movie credits are typically shown at the end of each film, and it's basically a collection of people given credited to for the production of said film—"

Realizing what Donghae had said, Hyukjae lightheartedly punched his arm, insisting him to stop with the smart talk. "You're making me feel stupid, now," He jokingly said, laughing when Donghae apologized. "You sound weird trying to apologize."

"Then I take it back," Donghae replied with an equally formed smile.

"Appa, who was your favorite character?"

Hyukjae turned to the other side and saw a curious Henry waiting for an answer while Kyuhyun watched as well. Considering the fact that he had fallen asleep for the majority of the movie, Hyukjae didn't know what the names of the character were. "I liked..... The fish...." He slowly said, unsure of what he should have answered.

Henry was first to giggle. "Appa, there's a lot of fish in Finding Nemo!" With that, Kyuhyun joined his younger brother in laughing upon seeing their daddy pout.

"Appa forgot the names because he's old~" Kyuhyun teased, now laughing so hard to the point where he was running out of breath. His father was now tickling him, daring him to repeat what he said. "Appa's old~" He sang despite his need of air.

"I bet your Donghae-hyung doesn't know the names, too," Hyukjae defensively said in a playful manner, stopping his tickling actions before carrying Kyuhyun to his lap. He then kissed the top of his son's head, which was his sign of apology despite the little boy not being hurt.

"Hae-hyung, who was your favorite character?" Henry tested Donghae, who had been watching the three laugh quite a lot.

"I like Dory, and my favorite part is when the creatures say 'fish are friends, not food,'" Smiling at Hyukjae's dumbfounded expression—his mouth an 'o' shape—Donghae decided to tease the older himself. "I'm as old as your appa, guys, but he remembers things like an old man," the two kids began laughing, and Hyukjae couldn't help but laugh, too. If his kids were happy, then he was, too.

-

The next Monday, Donghae was back to work at the dance studio. The weekend went by pretty well for him, but what's been lingering on his mind was Friday's movie night.

To say Hyukjae was a decent kisser was an understatement; he had a very skillful mouth, that was for sure. But he'd be lying if he said he didn't treat the kiss like any other he's received or given.

He's kissed a lot of people throughout the years, to be completely honest. Back in their teen years, Donghae and Heechul would even give each other chaste kisses in order to shoo away random third-parties who confessed their onsided love for them. Yes, these two best friends always had each other's back.

Being the no-strings-attached kind of guy, however, Donghae thought very lightly of kissing, and it surprised him that he still thought about his kiss with Hyukjae. It's probably because he was the only male he's kissed aside from Heechul. And the fact that Hyukjae tasted like the peppermint mocha he was drinking gave his taste buds something to remember.

After the kiss, Donghae so badly wanted to smile. He didn't know why, but he suddenly felt quite jolly. It was probably because Hyukjae had a cute expression on his face. Actually, when doesn't he? In fact, Hyukjae was incredibly hot; Donghae didn't feel the need to beat around the bush to express that.

His train of thoughts were cut off when one of his students called his name. "Donghae-oppa?"

Donghae looked up from his CD case, which he wasn't really looking through, and saw one of the girls in his class who wasn't a quick learner in choreography. However, she was one of  the students that really set their minds into the class.  "Oh, Sunny-ah. What's up?" He asked. When Sunny gave a sheepish smile, the teacher chuckled. "Need help again?"

"Yeah," She softly replied. "I'm really sorry!"

Donghae laughed at the girl's apologetic look. "Don't be! My job is to teach and guide students in dance lessons, is it not?" Sunny still apologized, but Donghae assured her it was alright. "What part do you need help in?" He asked, now standing up.

"I don't know how to do the spinning ballet-like part," Sunny tried to explain. "Like, the step where I have to stand on the tip of my right foot and do the 360 turn."

"Oh," Donghae said, understanding what Sunny meant.

For the next few minutes Donghae let the class practice on their own while he took care of Sunny's problem, helping her do a perfect (or at least close to it) spin. And eventually she got it, now performing that particular step without flaw.

Sunny cheered happily, being the bubbly girl she was, but Donghae was caught off guard when the petite female hugged him. He didn't show his surprise, since it only lasted a millisecond, so he hugged back. As an instinct to pretty girls (above the age of 20, thank you very much), however, the dance instructor subconsciously let his hands move to her sides and have light contact with her hipbones before dropping his arms completely, oblivious to the blush creeping up on her face.

As Donghae directed for his students to do a run through of the song they had just recently learned the coreography to, the instructor was all eyes in terms of keeping a lookout on any mistake or very nicely done steps.

But somehow his mind started to wander off, wondering if Hyukjae was a dancer. I mean, his  body is shaped very well (and he knows this because of the skinny jeans and white v-neck he was wearing on Friday), and bodies like that don't just magically appear on people. God, Hyukjae is just one very attractive being, and Donghae couldn't stress that enough.

Before he even realized it, the teacher pulled out his phone to type a message to his good-looking friend.

-

"Appa! I want chocolate milk!"

"Can we get more chips?"

"Get cookies!"

"Don't forget the cereal, appa!"

"I want chocolate chip cookies!"

"The cereal has to be the Flinstones one!"

Hyukjae and his kids were currently grocery shopping after having been at work and school respectively. The father knew for a fact that grocery shopping was never boring as long as he was with Henry and Kyuhyun. He was used to his kids wanting this and that, whining for one thing then complaining that they don't want it anymore. But in the end everything will settle out, because he's taught his kids that, "you get what you get and you don't get upset."

So he was calm upon hearing his kids excitedly tell him to get them all sorts of junk food because it always lasts no more than a minute before they divert their attention to another item, abandoning the last food they saw. What was amusing was watching his kids' looks of awe as he strolled through aisles; it was as if they were sightseeing in Disneyland, not a local grocery shop.

A vibration in one of his back pockets caused him to shortly stop moving his shopping cart, which had Henry sitting on the build in seat for kids and Kyuhyun being more free by sitting on the wider space where the food items were at; he didn't trust Henry being near all the food, considering the fact that his son would probably open them out of curiosity.

Hyukjae couldn't help but laugh softly at the message written on his phone screen.

From: Donghae
Hey, beautiful ;))) Are you busy later on?

To: Donghae
Oh, stop it, you. You're making me blush :3 .... NOT! :P & probably not, why?

From: Donghae
I was wondering if you wanted to come to the studio for a random dance session after my shift ends. :D

To: Donghae
And when have you become curious about my dancing? Hm?

From: Donghae
Well... For a first thing, you have a nice-looking body.... Just saying.

To: Donghae
I'd be lying if I said I don't feel awkward right now.... /)____(\

From: Donghae
Sorrryyyyyyyy! But it's kind of really true (:

To: Donghae
... Thanks, creeper. Haha. But, sure. I guess I can go. :D

From: Donghae
Kay, cool! I'll see you later! (:

To: Donghae
Okay. Until then, bye~ :3

Hyukjae momentarily wondered when had he started typing ":3" without being sarcastic, but soon shrugged it off. Tucking his cellphone back in his pocket, the father later caught sight of Henry trying to reach out to the shelf next to them. "Baby, what are you doing....?" He asked with slight amusement.

"Henry really wants to get the pack of strawberry milk cartons.... He can't reach it, though," Kyuhyun answered for his brother, who failed to hear his dad due to how absorbed he was in trying to reach the product. The two laughed at Henry's cute attempts until Hyukjae took hold of the targeted item.

When Henry cheered and hugged the pack of strawberry milk cartons, Hyukjae smiled. "I thought you didn't like strawberry milk, Henry-ah," He stated in confusion.

"But appa likes it!" The little boy cheerfully replied, flashing a toothy smile to his dad.

"Is someone trying to kiss up to me for cookies?" Hyukjae asked with a smile as well, pressing his forehead against Henry's. When the child giggled and gave a cute peck on his dad's lip, Hyukjae moved his head away with a smile. "I knew it."

"Did it work?" Kyuhyun curiously asked from behind Henry. When Hyukjae nodded, deciding to let Henry get the cookies he wanted (most of the time he'd convince his kid to get a healthier snack), Kyuhyun perked up. "Appa, can we go to the vegetable area?" He asked with the sweetest voice he can.

Hyukjae looked at his other baby with an amused look, finding this whole convincing deal quite entertaining. "And why?" He asked.

"Because appa likes vegetables, so I really do, too!" Kyuhyun ate his vegetables, but he wouldn't say he liked it very much. Hyukjae chuckled and leaned over to his son, giving a quick peck on his forehead.

"What do you want?"

"Pork chop and seafood for dinner," The boy happily said with a cheeky grin, and Hyukjae laughed, causing Kyuhyun to do the same.

"Sure, why not."

-

"Thank you for coming over even if it was a short notice," Hyukjae gratefully said to Sungmin, who agreed to watch the kids for a while as he was to go to the dance studio.

Hyukjae had already put the kids to bed an hour earlier, but he didn't want to risk having his kids possibly wake up to an apartment with no adult guidance. Yes, Hyukjae was overprotective, but his friends understood that because Henry and Kyuhyun were still so young.

"No problem," Sungmin replied. "As long as there's wi-fi and television present, I'll be fine." He added with a smile, and Hyukjae chuckled.

"I guess I'll be going now," The younger said, and the two gave each other a hug. "If you get sleepy, you can sleep in my bedroom." Hyukjae and Sungmin were used to sleeping next to each other due to the many sleepovers they had as kids. It was normal for them, and there was no awkward aura at all. So if by chance Sungmin had fallen asleep, Hyukjae wouldn't mind letting him spend the night at his apartment.

"Okay, bye~" Sungmin said. "Have fun!"

-

Hyukjae walked to the building of Donghae's work, which didn't take too long since it was only a few blocks away. Once he got himself inside the fancy-looking lobby, Hyukjae pulled out his phone and dialed Donghae's number.

"Yoboseyo?"
"Hey, what floor is your studio at?"
"Eleven. Are you here?"
"No, I'm fishing by a pier."
"Haha very funny."

Hyukjae smiled at Donghae's tone; for some reason, he found it cute when the other would use some sarcasm. Since when was he so open about saying these things?

"I guess my fishing job is over. See you in a few minutes~"
"Okay, myeolchi monkey!"
"Okay—HEY!"

Before Hyukjae can scold Donghae for calling him that, the younger had already hung up, causing Hyukjae to unintentionally jut his lips into what looked like a pout.

Once he stepped out of the elevator, Hyukjae was about to call once again to ask for the room number. But the first thing he saw when the elevator's sliding doors opened up was Donghae with a big grin, thus startling him to the point where he slightly yelled.

"God dammit, don't scare me like that again," Hyukjae scolded, walking out of the elevator before the sliding doors can close with him inside.

"I just really wanted to see my friend," Donghae innocently replied, showing a cute pout. "Sorry if I missed you a bit too much."

He was teasing him, Hyukjae knew it, and it wasn't too big of a deal before. So why did he feel his cheeks start to murderously burn? "You're an idiot," He replied with a smile in tact, deciding to ignore the blush on his face.

"Ouch," Donghae replied, now leading Hyukjae to the dance studio. Hyukjae chuckled and followed behind.

-

"It appears to me that you know how to dress for a dance practice," Donghae observed. He didn't intend on sounding too serious, but he guessed it was the result of saying it without prior thought.

Hyukjae took off his leather jacket so he'd be left with a black wife beater. "I wouldn't say it's some sort of dance attire, because god knows what that is, but I think it's really comfortable to dance in sweats and a wife beater."

"So you've danced before?" Donghae asked, suddenly beaming at the thought of his attractive friend dancing. Hyukjae looked at the other with a judging look but also with a minuscule, amused smile in tact. Thinking that he seemed a bit too excited, Donghae went back to a more calm state. "You dance?"

"Oh, totally. First grade chicken dances were fun," Hyukjae assured with a mock serious tone, nodding his head. Donghae let out a lighthearted sigh, shaking his head with a tiny smile on his face. "But in all seriousness, I do dance. In fact, I love it."

"Why so?"

"It just gives me a sense of freedom, you know? It's always been my form of escape when I'm stressed out or when I want to release feelings I can't put into words," Hyukjae admitted.

"Ah, I see..." Donghae acknowledged the other's reply. "So what song do you want to dance to right now?"

"Actually," Hyukjae started. He then put his jacket down on the table at the corner of the room. "I was hoping you'd teach me something. It'd be interesting learning Lee Donghae's coreography."

"Well, okay, then..." Donghae said. "Let's get started."

-

Much to Donghae's surprise, the two were able to get through the whole song's coreography in less than one hour. In his actual class, it took about a week to get it in tip-top shape. It could've been easier because he was only teaching one person, but he was leaning towards the fact that Hyukjae seems like a naturally quick learner. Or it could be both.

Prior to starting the lesson, Donghae danced to the song he was going to teach, which was an upbeat English song titled "Get Fresh." Hyukjae observed, and he somehow managed to get a few parts embedded into his mind already. So when Donghae began his lesson, it was a breeze.

After dancing the whole run-through, Hyukjae wasn't too tired, but you could see the sweat particles running down his neck and forehead. Donghae was used to this dance, so he was sweating much less than the other male.

"You're a really quick learner," Donghae admitted, and Hyukjae chuckled, taking it as a compliment. Both were currently standing up; Donghae was fixing his hair by the mirrored wall, and he was also watching Hyukjae as he did so.

The older was wiping his sweat with a small towel that Donghae had passed to him earlier. "I hope you didn't mind me changing a few steps; it's been a habit for me to do that," Hyukjae stated, sounding a bit apologetic. He was looking also at Donghae's reflection on the mirror.

"Oh, it's fine. I actually thought that it was pretty cool, considering how you were able to get back on track after doing your own moves," Donghae replied, turning to face the other with a smile, and Hyukjae smiled back. "Those moves were relly nice, too."

"Thanks," Hyukjae humbly replied.

When did their bodies get so close with each other? The world may never know. But soon Donghae gently cupped the other's face, the older not fighting against it, and just before their lips can fully meet, a phone began to ring.

Hyukjae, upon hearing IU's "Marshmallow" ringtone instead of his regular one, moved away and quickly answered the call.

"Yoboseyo?"
"Hi, baby brother!"
not long after, a loud "Hi, oppa!" was heard as well.
"Hey, Taeyeon-noona, Seungyeon-ah...?"
"I know why you're probably wondering why we're calling you, but guess what?"
Taeyeon said.
"What?"
"Prepare to see your beloved family tomorrow!"
"WHAT???!!!"

a/n: I'M SORRY FOR NOT UPDATING QUICKLY ㅠㅡㅠ, but I hope this chapter makes up for it? :D And if you're curious about the dance Eunhyuk and Donghae did, I based it off this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-9GYydG_PA&feature (I hope the link isn't broken, OTL) starting from 1:13 I believe. And yeah, I kind of changed the ages of Taeyeon (SNSD) and Seungyeon (KARA) for this story. I also made a temporary banner because I wanted to try making one, orz. I'll try to make a better one when I have time (: Thanks for your comments on the previous chapter. Enjoy~
