Chapter 10 - When Kai Becomes A Love Fool

Kai woke up to the pitter-patter of raindrops against his windowpane. The faint sound of birds chirping could also be heard from a nearby tree. He recalled seeing a mother bird building a nest there some time ago. Her eggs must have already hatched. A small smile crept onto his face at the thought.

He opened and closed his eyes several times as they adjusted to the faint light coming from outside. The sun was definitely out but the thick clouds floating in the sky kept it from shining brightly. Somehow, Kai had lost his mood to get up. This weather was just perfect for sleeping in, and with that, he pulled the cover over his head and curled up in a ball.

The man was about to drift back into dreamland when the door to his bedroom suddenly slammed open, startling the daylight out of him. The sound of tiny footsteps running across the floor then followed and before he knew it, two little humans had jumped onto his bed.

“Daddy, daddy, wake up!” a little girl squealed excitedly, bouncing up and down near her father’s head.

“Yeah, daddy! Wake up! Mommy’s made breakfast,” added another equally excited kid, the twin brother.

If it were six years ago, he would have probably been freaking annoyed by now. But these were his babies, his own flesh and blood. No matter how loud and annoying they were, he could never get mad at them. At least, not for too long. They were his sunshine on cloudy days, they were his rainbows during the night. They made him happy.

The two kids kept jumping up and down on the bed with all their might but their dad made no sign of waking up just yet. Well, little did they know, their oh-so-mature of a father was actually wide-awake and was stimulating an evil plan in his mind. Typical Kai, some things never changed. Once a prankster, always a prankster.

He let his kids continue bouncing as he remained “asleep”. When they least expected it, he would suddenly get up and scream on top of his lungs. The twins would definitely be really shocked, right? He could already imagine their flabbergasted looks. Aww, that would be such an adorable sight to see. However, his plan didn’t quite go as he intended.

The two children were shocked, alright, but what happened after that was even more shocking. Like a reflex action, the little girl picked up a bedroom slipper from the floor – probably her dad’s – and hit the man repeatedly. On the head, face, shoulder, arm, not even a single spot was missed as she continued with her attack.

Horrified, Kai let out a loud, painful shriek. Damn, for a five year-old, she surely had strength similar to that of a wrestler. He had tried recruiting help from his little boy but the kid simply shrugged before rolling on the bed, laughing his heart out. How unbelievable! He had never felt so betrayed like this ever before.

Minzy, who was preparing breakfast in the kitchen, immediately rushed upstairs in panic upon hearing the loud scream. Everything around her seemed to stop moving and no sound could be heard other than the loud beating of her heart as she ran towards their bedroom. The growing bump on her belly didn’t even cross her mind. She knew that she should’ve been more careful but all she could think of at that moment was her family’s safety.

“Jongin-ah!” she half screamed once she reached the room, panting heavily, only to find her husband being abused by his own children.

She let out a huge, relieved sigh as soon as she realised what was really happening. No one was hurt as she initially thought. Well, sort of. Kai was obviously suffering underneath those two little monkeys. But that was the least of her problem. In fact, she was enjoying what she was seeing. Minzy couldn’t help but giggle at the funny yet adorable sight before her eyes.

Minjung was sitting on her father’s back, tickling him to death, while Jimin was doodling what seemed like a flying pig on both his father’s feet with crayons. This happened almost everyday and yet, it never failed to warm her heart. Sometimes, she felt sorry for her husband but she knew that he didn’t mind the kids’ behaviour at all. Sure, they could be really hyperactive at times but that’s what brought the joy into the household.

“Okay, my little munchkins, that’s enough! Your daddy needs to get ready,” Minzy finally spoke again after several minutes of being a spectator.

“Alright, mommy!” the twins immediately replied before running away, grinning and giggling.

“Why do they always listen to you but not me?” Kai huffed.

The adult man sat up on the bed with his arms crossed over his chest to show his discontent. The pout on his lips made him look even more childish causing his wife to chuckle in amusement. Sometimes, she really felt like taking care of three children instead of two. “Oh come on, don’t be such a big baby,” Minzy teased, ruffling his bed hair.

She was going to go back to her task in the kitchen when suddenly, she felt herself being yanked back and into Kai’s lap. The guy then wrapped his arms around her securely, resting his chin on her shoulder. “Well, need I remind you that this big baby is the one who’s got you pregnant… twice,” he muttered with that y, deep voice of his; his right hand rubbing her growing bump gently.

Gulp.

Well, it was true. This big baby, indeed, got her pregnant twice. It would have probably been more if she didn’t reject his moves every now and then. Kai was such a beast in the bedroom. A very gentle one, nevertheless. It was one of his charms that got her falling deeply in love with him in the first place. Just thinking about it made Minzy feel all warm and tingly inside, and Kai noticed that.

Her flushed cheeks gave it all away and he knew exactly what his wife was thinking at the moment. He would really love to pounce on her right there and then but decided against it. They got all day to themselves today and he planned on enjoying every second of it. He even wrote down what he wanted to do with Minzy the night before. It’s been a while since their last date so he was really excited about it.

Minzy was lost in her thoughts for who knew how long. It wasn’t until she felt a slight pain on her right shoulder that she came back to reality. And when she turned to look what was happening, she could not help but gasp out loud, “Jongin! What did you do that for?!”

“Marking you, what else?” he grinned sheepishly.

“You’re unbelievable!” Minzy knocked his forehead with her knuckle before standing up to get back to the kitchen, “Come on, boy, breakfast is going to be served in a few!”

“Hey, I am not !”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever makes you happy~”

Kai could only huff in defeat as he watched his wife’s retreating back. Ever since they got together, he seemed to lose his mojo. He could never win against Minzy, be it in harmless pranks or getting their children’s attention. He was still a very happy man, nonetheless. There was never a time that he regretted his decision to confess to her. It was probably one of the few decisions that he was proud of making in his entire lifetime.

After he had freshened up, the young father merrily skipped his way downstairs. His wife and two children were already waiting for him at the dining table. “Good morning, my angels,” he greeted them with a big, warm smile before giving his wife a small peck on the cheek, “What do we have for breakfast today?”

“Pancakes!”

“And ice cream!”

“Na-uh, no ice cream for you, little man,” Minzy immediately retorted causing her son to pout in disappointment.

“Why no ice cream?! You’re so boring!” Kai defended his son, sticking out his tongue at the frowning woman.

“Yea, mommy, you’re so boring!”

Like father, like son.

Minzy was about to clarify her point but Minjung already beat her to it, “If you want to get rotten teeth then go ahead and eat your ice cream! We have all kinds of flavor in the fridge – strawberry, chocolate, green tea, everything. But don’t cry and whine like a baby once you get a toothache after that!”

Beyond stunned, Kai and Jimin could only stare at the little girl, their mouths agape. The girl seemed to be unfazed at all by their reactions as she continued to spread some honey onto her Hello Kitty-shaped pancake. Minzy, on the other hand, couldn’t help but giggle.

Like mother, like daughter.

“Oh, and mommy is definitely not boring! Mommy can dance and cook like a goddess and she always plays with Minjung too!” the girl added before stuffing with her favourite food.

“Yeah! Mommy always plays with Jimin, too! Why did you say mommy’s boring, daddy? Doesn’t mommy play with you anymore?” Jimin, in a split second, betrayed his father as per usual; whatever his noona said, he would always follow her.

The little boy then got into his thinking pose and what came out of his mouth next caught the married couple off-guard, “Because I remember hearing weird noises in the middle of the night almost everyday but after mommy got pregnant, there’s no noise anymore.”

After the somewhat awkward breakfast, the couple sent their twins to Jongin’s eldest sister’s house. The kids had a play date with their cousins today. Kai and Minzy were going to pick them up after their date later tonight. And now, the two lovebirds were walking hand-in-hand at the Han River Park.

It used to be such a nuisance to go out in public together, especially during the first few months after their relationship was unveiled, but after some time, both their fans finally accepted their relationship and respected their privacy. When they announced their marriage six years ago, the entire nation was cheering for them and they couldn’t be more grateful.

“Looks like someone is really happy,” Minzy commented as she swung their interlocked hands.

“Of course, I get to spend the whole day with my beautiful wife!” Kai replied with a childish grin.

“Weird, people say that a man would love his children more once they are born but it seemed like you were too eager to send them away just now.”

Kai stopped walking and pulled Minzy into a hug. Tucking a few strands of hair behind her ears, he then leaned in to kiss her forehead. It might be a small gesture but it never failed to make her heart flutter. “Don’t get me wrong, I do love our children. They’re our bundle of joy. But they wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for you. I love you and I could never thank you enough for loving me back, for giving me happiness, for always being there during tough times, for everything. You’re an amazing woman, Gong Minji. A caring wife and a loving mother to my children. I couldn’t ask for more, I love you,” his confession surprised Minzy that she was speechless; but the beating of her heart just grew faster and faster.

Kai sealed their lips together after pouring his heart out, her tiny bump didn’t even bother them as they kissed passionately. Some passers-by couldn’t help but be awed by the romantic scene unfolding before their very eyes. Kai and Minzy were indeed known as the sweetest couple in the K-Pop history. Every girl dreamed of having such a sweet and romantic boyfriend like Kai. Every guy desired a beautiful and caring girlfriend like Minzy.

“Such a cheeseball,” Minzy scrunched her nose teasingly after they had pulled away from the kiss.

“Ay, but you love this cheeseball1” Kai pinched her nose causing his wife to giggle.

“Hmm… maybe~”

Minzy couldn’t help but laugh at her husband’s dumbfounded expression. It was funny yet adorable at the same time. She walked away still giggling, ignoring her husband’s whining. They might be lovers now but teasing him was still one her favourite things to do. Old habits die hard, they say.

All thanks to his long legs, Kai managed to reach his wife in no time. He immediately reinterlaced their fingers while still whining like a child. The couple continued to walk around, enjoying the view and fresh air. It had always been nice to go out and just chill once in a while – something they couldn’t do often given their field of work.

From afar, Minzy spotted an ice cream stand. And Kai needed not to be told to know that his wife was craving for the sweet treat. She was literally drooling over it. Too cute! He gave her a soft peck on the lips and chuckled, “Choco mint or cookies and cream?”

“Choco mint, please!” Minzy replied almost too excitedly causing the husband to chuckle even more.

Minzy sat down on a bench just across the ice cream stand while Kai got their ice creams. She couldn’t help but smile looking at him grinning happily. A group of elementary school children on a field trip was surrounding him, asking for his autographs and whatnot. And being the kind person he was, Kai complied with their requests.

He cracked a few jokes here and there making the children laugh. The sight was just too adorable that Minzy had to take a video of it. Stealthily, she took her phone out of her purse and started recording. She was too immersed in admiring her husband that she didn’t even notice the presence beside her. “Ey, stalking uri Jongin, I see,” the new voice startled Minzy that she jumped a little in her seat.

“Oh god, Sehun! You scared me!”

“Oops! Sorry, sis-in-law!” Sehun giggled sheepishly before placing a hand over the lady’s shoulders, “Where are my favourite niece and nephew?”

“At Jungah eonnie’s house.”

“Oooh~ Looks like someone’s one a date then, ey?”

The maknae of EXO wiggled his eyebrows teasingly as he leaned closer to Minzy’s face. He always did that. To him, it just a harmless joke but boy, was he wrong! The next thing he knew, his collar was grabbed harshly from behind and he was pulled backward until he landed on the cemented pavement with a loud thud. It was so painful that a curse slipped out his gorgeous lips.

“Stay away from my wife, you idiot!” Kai shot at him with a murderous glare.

“Geez, man! So possessive as ever! I was only teasing her, you freak!”

Minzy gasped in shock as she ran to help Sehun back on his feet, “Kai! What did you do that for!”

Kai’s eyes widened twice their size. His wife was taking Sehun’s side instead of his? How unbelievable! What was the idiot doing so close to her, anyway? Was he trying to kiss her or something?

Ugh, Oh freaking Sehun!

“Yo, Jongin!”

“Jongin!”

“Yah, Kkamjong!”

“Wake up, you idiot! We have a performance in a few hours!”

Slowly, Kai opened his eyes. He blinked several times trying to adjust to the bright light in the room. The room… Upon realising the situation, Kai frantically turned left and right, up and down, and scanned the room with intent eyes. No, this was definitely not the room he woke up to earlier. This was his bedroom at the EXO dorm – the one he shared with Chanyeol and Kyungsoo.

So, everything was just a dream?

A shiver ran down his spine and all over his body at the realisation. Did he really just dream of Minzy as his wife? Oh. My. God! Surprisingly, instead of being grossed out as he normally would, a small smile graced his face. Call him crazy but he kind of liked the feeling.

“Yah, stop smiling and get your off the bed!” Sehun interrupted his little daydream.

Annoyed, he took one of his pillows and threw it at the maknae’s direction with all the energy he got but the latter had already closed the door before the pillow could even reach him.

Stupid, Sehun, always spoiling the good moments!

Kai and Minzy as a married couple? Fluff, fluff and fluff all over! Unfortunately, it was just Kai's dream. But hey, who knows, his dream may come tru some da. ;p Hahaha! And I lovelove a jealous Kai! Hahaha! For the next chapter, however, I'm afraid that you'll have to wait for a little while because I'm going to update my other fanfic - Mending A Broken Heart - first. There are only a few chapters left for that fic so I think I'm gonna finish that first and then I can concentrate solely on this one! :D Okay? Hee. I hope you don't mind~
