Reading these series of texts, I sigh. Jessi…

It’s heart-warming to receive such texts and I love them with all my heart but these days have been so very tiring…All those heavy schedules got me breathing hard. China fan meet is coming up, practicing and preparing for 5 days straight right after Tokyo Dome is nothing near pleasant. I am after all a human being, repetitive work got me frustrated and bothered. It’s suffocating.

I need some space alone.

I’m really sorry for not replying but I really need the space to breathe.

Jessica’s POV

[Buzz]

Startled by the sudden vibration, I drop the phone on the floor. Gosh. I guess I’ve been holding the phone for too long that I almost forgot I was holding one. Picking it back up, I chuckle bitterly as I see who’s finally texting me back.

I’ll call tonight.

That’s all you have to say? I’ve been waiting for you whole day. I take a few more seconds staring at the lock screen, hoping there’s another text coming. I sigh as I gave you twenty seconds more. Nothing. Nothing’s coming. When I realize that I gave myself a false hope, I exhale loudly and toss the phone on the couch. Tiffany…

Trudging on slowly to the kitchen, my mind wanders back to the text.

‘I’ll call tonight.’

You didn’t even bother to type an emoticon. At least tell me you missed me? Do you know how worried you made me? I got so frustrated by checking the phone over and over again.

Tiffany you made me feel hopeless; yet I’m hopelessly in love with you.

Tiffany’s POV

“Hi.” I smile a little when I greet you on the other side of the phone.

“Hm.”

You’re mad? Hoping to save the situation I wittily ask back, “Just hm Jessi?”

“What more can I say?”

You are definitely mad. Sighing mentally, I take the first step to apologize “Sorry Jess.”

“Now you’re sorry. Do you know what you’re apologizing for?”

“It’s – I’m tired Jessi, that’s why. I just wanted some space…”

“You wanted space. That’s why you didn’t tell me your whereabouts.”

“I’m sorry. I – I thought you would understand.” We are soul mates right?

“How could I when you didn’t even say a word.”

I pull the phone away and take some deep breaths. Putting the phone back against my ears, I hear your voice again.

“Was it so hard to at least type something back?”

“…”

“A little ‘yes’ will suffice when I asked you were you busy.”

“…”

“It really wouldn’t take you lots of space.”

It’s just some space that I wanted! It’s no big deal! Why are you nagging me so much about that!?

“Jess I’m sorry okay!!!!?” I raise my voice unintentionally.

“…”

Oh god now you’re not saying anything. What now?? Argh Tiffany!!!

I immediately tune down my voice, “I’m…I’m sorry Jessi. I’m sorry.”

“You made me feel so hopeless Fany, even more so when you texted me back…”

“…”

“You could have at least type a smiley at the end…”

“Please Jessi, I already told you I’m sorry. Let it go, please.”

“Please baby, please.” Not hearing your response, I tell myself it’s not rational to drag on the call when both of us are upset. “Maybe we should end the call hm? It’s been a tiring day for us, we both need some rest.”

“…”

“Jessi?”

“I guess it’s goodni – “

“Stephanie.” I keep silent as you indirectly telling me you have something serious to say by calling my birth name. “You kept telling me you’re sorry, but do you know what you are apologizing for? I – I guess not.”

I choke on my own saliva after hearing your words. I want to say something back but you beat me to it.

“…Goodnight.” And the call ends.

Dropping the phone from my ears, my eyes linger on your name in the screen, my thumb hovers above the ‘call back’ button.

I feel terrible for making you sad, but I just don’t get what I did wrong. All I wanted was space, you sometimes want it too, everyone has the right for it. How come your words made me feel so guilty, but I really don’t know what I’m guilty of. I’m right but why do I feel wrong!?

It’s when my thumb starts to shake, my vision starts to blur then I know I’m crying.

With my half opened eyes, I look to the girl sitting on the couch. “Wha – Sooyoung? Why – how did you know?”

Sooyoung looks at me, “Those swollen eyes.”

I nod, “Hm…”
