“Son, remember, you are going to be the next King of this Kingdom, you have to obey all the rules. Your main goal is to protect the angels and defeat the devils and please keep your distance with them.”

 

That’s what my father, King Joseph IV, always tells me. Oh by the way, I’m Rihito. I am the crown prince who is next in line to be the King after my father.

 

Well, I can proudly say I am one of the best fighters in this kingdom. My weapon is a sword that my grandfather gave to me before he died. This sword was previously his, so I have to take care of it.

 

Oh by the way, I live in a town named “Uto’Cre” in “Eir’Cre”. This “Eir’Cre” has 2 major sides. One is Angels’ side where I live, and another one is Devils’ side.

 

The Angels’ side usually called “Uto’Cre”, and Devils’ side usually called “Treis’Cre”. Beside those sides, there is a forest between them, this forest called “Uno’Cre”, which is a free area for both Devils and Angels.

 

“Rihito! It’s time for you to study about history!” a girl yelled from outside of my room. She is Rin.

 

Rin is my teacher and also my childhood friend, she is more like my mother actually. She has already lived in this castle since I was very young because her family has a connection with the royal family.

 

Rin has a pair of light blue eyes and long blonde hair. She always carries her wand and also wears a hat, which is the same color as her eyes.

 

I walked to the library where I always go to when I need to learn about the Angel history, well such as the first king, our achievements, our failures, and also about why Angels and Devils are in today’s condition.

 

“Ri-chan! Walk quicker!” Rin kept shouting at me, well I hate studying history. It is really boring and always makes me feel sleepy.

 

“Yes…Yes Ma’am” I replied her lazily and sat right next to her

 

“Ma…Ma’am? I’m not that old okay!” she answered me while pouting

 

“You are talkative like an oldie madam, you know.” I said teasingly to her. I could see her angry face is looking at me now

 

“You…” she said as she clenched her hand like she wants to punch me “…just shut up and study now.” she added and released her clenched

 

“Well, say Rin…can I skip today’s class? I’ll treat you some ice creams for letting me to do that, okay?” I said as I showed her my puppy eyes

 

“No!” she said boldly and quickly

 

“Aw man, please, I’ll give you everything you want then…umm…You told me that you loved the dress on the mannequin at ‘H’ boutique, right? I’ll buy it for you, okay?” I said once again

 

“…B-but, the king asked me to teach you…” she said and looked away

 

“Aw Rin~ we’re friends, right? Please, let me skip today, okay? I promise I will buy that dress for you, and I won’t skip next time, okay?” I said once again as I held her hands, I can see how her face slowly became red, she is cute.

 

“Geez…you, but I’m not in charge if something happened to you, okay?” she said while pouting again with her red face

 

“Hahaha don’t worry Rin, nothing will happen. And I know you are the best! I’ll go now, see ya!” I said as I started running from the library to the forest.

 

Oh yes, I forgot to mention before, Angels’ duty is to kill all the Devils, well that sounds mean but, it’s the best for us. It’s like us (the angels), have the job to kill them (the devils) or we will be killed by them.

 

I started walking around the forest and heard a kid’s crying. I run as fast as I can to the source of the voice and I saw a little angel boy with a devil, who would change my fate completely.

 

The moment that devil turned to me, I couldn’t take my eyes off from her. Her beauty caught me off guard for a while. She looks really pretty and…weird to say, but she looks innocent, not like all the devils I have ever met before.

 

She has a really long hair and she is wearing a gothic-style mini dress, a black sword can be easily seen on her back. She also wears a pair of black lace gloves and black boots. Her style is so devil’s style.

 

Her curly long blonde hair is tied in twin-tailed style with black and white ribbons…and yeah, she is kind of short if we mention about her height, and somehow, I have this feeling that I have ever met her before, pushed away that thought, I took my sword and glanced at her.

 

“What are you doing?” I said as I pointed my sword at her

 

“I…I heard this kid’s crying and came to see what happened, I…I didn’t hurt him” she said while trembling, maybe because I pointed my sword at her

 

“No, let me correct your words, you haven’t hurt him, but you will, right? All the devils are the same, sly and cannot be counted on.” I said as I kept pointing my sword to her.

 

“Ri-kun! She didn’t do anything wrong, and she said she wanted to help me to find my toy.” That little angel boy said while kept pulling my shirt

 

“Really? But…uh…” I said as I tried to remember his name, “what’s your name again?” I added after giving up on trying to remember the name

 

“It’s Kise, Ri-kun!” he said and pouted

 

“Okay, Kise, she is a devil, you know the rules, right? We cannot go anywhere near them without a shield or a sword, they are our enemies!” I said and pointed at her

 

“No!” she replied quickly, about to walk toward me but stopped when she finally realized my sword in front of her

 

“What?” I asked her coldly and shot her ‘are-you-sure’ face

 

Staring at my face slightly, she then shook her head, “I…I mean, at least not me” she said as she pointed at herself

 

“You? Pfft” I laughed but then turned to her again “Who are you actually?” I added

 

“… I…I’m Kurumi” she hesitantly replied, somehow my head felt like it is hit by something really hard

 

“Ughh…” I held my head in pain while she looks panic and worried as she stepped towards me a bit, this devil is a weird one.

 

“Are you okay?” she asked me softly as she tried to step nearer to me but I stopped her by gesturing my hand

 

“…I’m okay…ughh…” I said as I still feel that pain in my head and then I glanced at her again, “Your name is Kurumi? Wait… the Queen…you have the same name as the Devil’s Queen…don’t tell me that you actually are…” I surprised after knowing her name, maybe that’s why I feel like I have seen her before…but it still doesn’t sound right…

 

“Uh…that’s what they always call me there, but it’s not me who is the ruler actually. It’s Takumi…” she said again softly still with her worry face. The moment he mentioned that name, I feel another pain in my head, but decided to act like I don’t feel anything

 

“Wha-whatever! I don’t care. I won’t let you accompany Kise to find his toy. I will do that.” I said as I put my sword back and took Kise’s hand

 

“Ri…Ri-kun, I want to go with Kuru-chan” Kise said and didn’t want to walk

 

“Ki-Kise, don’t be like that. It’s better for you to go with uh…Ri…”she said as she kept staring at me

 

“I’m Rihito, the next King of Angels.” I said and looked back at her, her face looks somehow surprised but I ignored her

 

“With Rihito, okay? Well, you’ll be saver with him…” she said again, she looked a little disappointed and looked at the ground

 

“How about if we go together? The three of us!” Kise said cheerfully

 

“What? Me? Go with the queen of the devils? Please, Kise, where’s your mind?” I said and kneeled down to his eye-level

 

“If you don’t want to go with Rumi-chan, let me go with her then.” Kise said again with his sparkling eyes

 

“Kise! It’s not safe. I won’t let you be alone with a devil, especially the queen.” I said again as I held Kise’s shoulder.

 

“…I won’t hurt him, I promise” Kurumi said again and walked closer to me and Kise

 

“Like the hell I will believe in you” I said while I looked away, avoiding her innocent eyes, well actually, I have believed in her but it’s no way I can tell her.

 

“W-why? Just, because I’m a devil? Please, not all of the devils are evil, okay!” she said again with troubled expression on her face.

 

“Liar! All devils are evil! You might not want to hurt him, but if your beloved clans see you two, they’ll attack him.” I said again with louder voice than before

 

“I am not a liar!” she said with trembling voice as she has tried her best to hold her and looked at me with her teary eyes, “I won’t let anyone touch him, I am not that evil just because I am the devil’s Queen!” she added as she wiped her tears from her cheeks

 

“And, what do you think, that your tears will make me believe in you? Like the hell I will believe in a devil.” I said again and looked away

 

“S-shut up! I didn't mean to cry either!” she said as she desperately wiped away her tears as she kneeled next to Kise

 

“Ri-kun is mean! My daddy told me that a man shouldn’t make a woman cry!” Kise said and looked at me with angry face

 

“That’s okay, Kise, I am not crying, look” Kurumi said and showed Kise her previous smile

 

“Geez…let’s go then!” I said as I put my sword back and looked at her, secretly admired her smile

 

“E-eh? Re-really?” she glanced up at me with her twinkling eyes

 

“Don’t make me repeat myself!” I said as I looked away, tried to hide my blushed face because of her beauty…what…I am losing my mind now

 

“Ki-kise~ let’s go then” she said cheerfully and took Kise’s hand then turned to me, “come on, Rihito-kun” she added and showed me her smile again

 

“Wait! What an impatient girl you are” I said and followed her from behind

 

“Hehe~ sorry I just got excited all of sudden” she said as she grinned

 

“You are such a busy girl” I said and without realizing it, I chuckled because of her

 

“Eh? Busy?” she tilted her head as she stared at me

 

“Hm…you cried a few second ago, then got excited, then confused” I said and chuckled again

 

“Hey~ don’t tease me” she pouted then turned away, I laughed because of her action then she turned to me and smiled sweetly

 

“What?” I asked her with confused face

 

“No, I just think your smile is really comforting, I am glad that you showed me that smile, hehe” she smiled to me, and I can feel my face became hotter as I looked away so she cannot see my face

 

“I-I-I don’t need a compliment from a devil” I said flustered, but I am happy to hear her compliment

 

“Ah…sorry for being a devil then” she said then showed a smile, but not an innocent or a sweet one, but a sad one

 

“…But…um…thank you” I said softly, I tried to make it sounds almost inaudibly, but she turned to me with surprised face and smiled and said softly as well “you are welcome”

 

I looked away once again to avoid her gaze and her innocent face, you don’t know how much I wish she were an angel, but she is a devil after all. Maybe not now, but someday, I will have to kill her or maybe she will kill me…right?

 

I walked mindlessly about that while Kurumi and Kise kept looking at some bushes to find Kise’s toy. But after walked several hours, and the sky started to be dark, Kise cried.

 

“Huwaaaa where is the toooooy? It is a gift from Mi-chan huwaaaaa” Kise cried uncontrollably.

 

“Ki-Kise, don’t cry. We will try to find it, okay” Kurumi kneeled down and patted crying Kise’s head, but Kise ignored her and kept crying.

 

“Kise stop crying now” I scolded him but well Kise kept crying and louder. Kurumi frowned and spread her wings and flew away.

 

“Hah…” I sighed as she flew away, to be honest, I am disappointed that she doesn't spend time longer with me

 

“Uhh…” Kise kept crying as he stared at me with curiosity

 

“Well we can never count on devils” I said to hide my own disappointment, somehow I still believe in her…

 

“…” Kise didn't reply, instead he kept rubbing his eyes, maybe to wipe away all his tears

 

“Kise, please stop crying and let’s go home, I’ll look for your toy again tomorrow, it’s kind of dangerous to be outside from the house at night” I said as he nodded, I carried him while he kept crying and flew back to Angel’s side.

 

I went back to my castle as soon as I took Kise back to his home. His mother apologized to me and thanked me. I was very tired so I threw my body to the bed soon as I arrived.

 

“Kurumi…she is really a weird type of devil” I murmured before covering my face with the fluffy white blanket on my bed
