Hello! My name is... (Greetings and Farewell)
Learning Korean and Hangeul (SuJu Style)안녕하세요 [Annyeonghaseyo]!
Miss me? I apologize for not updating this sooner. *bows deeply*
*clears throat*
Now, to continue with our next lesson on greetings and farewells! Today's guest is, well, my favorite guest:
Teukie-Teukie-Leeteuk!
Since you are all familiar with the Korean characters by now and know how they sound, we're just going to jump straight into this. However, I will put sort of a general English pronunciation beside each term after I Romanize it. (I hope that makes sense...)
First, we will start with the Polite Greetings:
Polite:
안녕하세요 [Annyeonghaseyo]?
[ahn-nyawng-hah-sayo]
This is actually sort of a catch-all greeting. It means "Hello", "Hi", "How are you?", "How's it going?", "Good morning", "Good evening", or "Good afternoon".
In response to the above, the common reply would be:
네, 안녕하세요? [Ne, Annyeonghaseyo]?
[Ne, ahn-nyawng-hah-seyo]
This basically means, "I'm fine, thanks. And you?"
*And as I'm sure you all know, when greeting in Korea, you bow. (Hence, why I decided to haveTeukie oppa join us for this lesson... :P)
처음 뵙겟씀니다? [cheo-eum boep-ket-sseumnida]
"How do you do?"
별 일 없지요 [byeollil eop-jiyo]
"What's new?"
그저 그래요. [geujeo geuraeyo]
"Nothing much."
좀 힘들어요. [jom himdeureoyo]
"Things are hard."
좀 바빠요. [jom bappayo]
"Things are busy."
요즘 어떻게 지내세요? [yojeum eotteoke jinaeseyo?]
"How have you been?"
잘 지내요. [jal jinaeyo]
"I've been fine, thanks."
Casual Greetings for when you are among close friends:
잘 있었어? [jal isseosseo]?
"How are you doing?"
야, 잘 있었냐? [ya, jal isseonya?]
"Hey, what's up?"
어떻게 지냈여? [eotteoke jinaesseo?]
"How've you been?"
잘 있었어. [jal isseosseo.]
"I'm fine."
어디 갔었어? [eodi gasseosseo?]
