Wristwatch

Daejae Fluff One-Shot Collection

II.

Youngjae glanced up from his notebook as he walked into his favorite class, baking class. It was his favorite class not only because there was not much talking involved, but because the boy he’s been having butterflies over sat at the perfect angle for him to stare unnoticed. Most moments of the class was spent on observing Daehyun out of the corner of his eye, internally melting from every move he made from the slightest change in his blinking pattern, to his bubble blowing from his gum every couple minutes. It was irritating and soothing at the same time for Youngjae to watch. Daehyun’s existence was just too overwhelming for Youngjae to comprehend so all he did was express his love interest in a journal. A journal filled with his own imagination, each detail of Daehyun painted into poetry. Sometimes Youngjae felt as if he was too apprehensive to do anything about this crush, that it was slowly taking over his life bit by bit with every little thing Daehyun did. Although Youngjae was more of an introvert, and Daehyun appeared to be more of an extrovert, he felt that if the two aligned they would click together like a puzzle piece. He didn’t understand why he felt such chemistry and attraction towards him but he knew it was much more than just a “crush.” Daehyun made him feel something that he never felt before, making him have the urge to open up to him safely like he could vent out all his thoughts to him. The only other thing that felt like that to Youngjae other than Daehyun was writing. And from the day he learned how to write, he knew that he had to find someone that completed him like words completed stories and poems.

Youngjae takes a seat in his regular assigned seat, putting his notebooks aside in a neat stack on the edge of the table. He takes off his favorite wristwatch and sets it on top of the stack and slips on his baking gloves. He peeks over across the room to see if Daehyun has arrived, but it looks like he was late today. He frowned a little, hoping that he would show up today as the teacher began to start the lesson.

"Today you are going to be in charge of decoration for the cupcakes we're making." the instructor walked over to Youngjae's table setting down instructions and decoration tools. "Do you have a partner today?"

Youngjae looked up at the teacher opening his mouth to answer that he didn't have a partner usually anyway, but a knock on the door stops him from speaking. Daehyun flashed a smile at the teacher through the window of the door and a student walks over to open it.

"Looks like you're late Jung Daehyun. Work with this kid over here, we need partners to do each task today." The teacher says motioning Daehyun to sit down next in the seat beside Youngjae. Youngjae's body becomes stiff from tension and excitment as Daehyun walks over hitting the edge of Youngjae's stack of books on the table with the brush of his hip.  Youngjae's books tumble off the table along with his wristwatch creating a loud thump and shatter on the ground.

Daehyun leans down picking up the books and wristwatch. He takes the wristwatch up closer to his face examining it for cracks and scratches he might've caused. "I'm really sorry." He sets the wristwatch back on the table and begins to pick up the rest of his books. Youngjae's heartbeats faster as he looks down at the boy he's been observing for so long picking up his own writing, his own work. Daehyun stops for a second staring at the journal with poems belonging to Youngjae and flips through the page while he stands up. "You write?" Daehyun asks without looking up from Youngjae's work. He smiles as he reads, flipping through each page slowly with care and interest. He grins looking back up at Youngjae's blank face and sets the book back on the table. Youngjae's palms were sweating with nervousness as Daehyun begins to make decorations for the cupcakes in class. He was still trying to process the fact that Jung Daehyun just touched his work, the work that he was writing all about him.

"Do you mind if I read your writing? It's very amusing and well written. One of the best work I've seen." Daehyun asks as they swirled frosting onto a cupcake. Youngjae felt lost for words at the compliment he was recieving, it was astounding that Daehyun even noticed him, but now he was asking to read his work? "Yes sure, I would love to see your view on my writing." Youngjae replies with a beam, pushing out some confidence as he feels a warm glow creep up his cheeks. "Well how about we meet afterschool at the cafe? I do owe you a new wristwatch you know." Youngjae breathes in and out, trying to steady his heartbeat in fear that Daehyun could hear it. Daehyun's eye smile stopped his heart and now his heart was beating faster to replinish the moment when it was paused. Youngjae nods his head at Daehyun looking down at his toes to hide the smile that was forming on his lips. "You don't talk much do you?" Daehyun asked chuckling softly at the way Youngjae was grinning like a fool.

For the rest of the school day, Youngjae could not stop tapping his foot, tapping his pencil, tapping his fingers out of anticipation to sit down with someone who appreciated his work for the first time, and that someone was what you could say his "first love." He felt the butterflies in his gut but this time it was different, they didn't stop once Daehyun's presence was gone. In the classes they did not share, the butterflies were still there. In classes they did share, there were more while he stared at the back of the boy's head four rows in front of him.

The bell finally rang almost making Youngjae jump up from his seat. He gathers all his books and puts the scratched wristwatch in his pocket and heads to his locker. He puts everything in the locker and stuffed all his work inside of his backpack to carry with him to the cafe. What if Daehyun realizes the person he write about in his journal was actually him? Would he be ready to confess to him? Youngjae shook the thoughts away as he slams the locker shut. He walks out the school building, staring at his shoes as he walks to the street where the cafe sat. He counts each step he takes getting closer and closer to what he has been waiting for a very long time now. The chimes on the cafe door rings as he opens it and the aroma of coffee beans and fresh macarons fill his senses. Youngjae's stomach growls and he sits down on one of the two person tables perched along side the window. Purposely chosing the spot so he could spot when Daehyun is nearing the cafe.

He fixes up his school uniform although it looked bad with or without fixing. He got his writing out of his backpack deciding whether he should leave out the parts where he writes about the desire of confessing to Daehyun. Youngjae blushes from his own thought of the stuff he has written almost putting away some journals, but Daehyun arrives without him noticing, sitting down across from him. "Sorry I was kind of late, I was getting you a new wristwatch but I didn't even notice the time when I was buying it!" He laughs at his ironic statement and Youngjae laughs along, not sure whether from nervousness or actual humor. Daehyun takes the newly bought wrsitwatch out of his pocket slipping it in Youngjae's hand under the table. "I couldn't find the exact model, but I hope you don't mind this one." Youngjae firmly holds the new wristwatch in his hand surprised at how geniune Daehyun was. It was exactly like the Daehyun he wrote about in his writing. He never understood how infatuation could turn into an actual major crush, but it did and Youngjae was right all along on Daehyun's geniune kindness. "Thank you. I didn't expect you to get me a new one just becuase of the scratches, you really didn't have to..." Youngjae replies as he turns a dark shade of red. He touches his cheeks in embarrassment trying to hide it but it was actually making it more obvious. Daehyun laughs at Youngjae's silliness. "You're cute." He grabs one of the journals off Youngjae's side of the table and begins to read the pages. Youngjae didn't have to observe him from a distance anymore. He watched as Daehyun's forehead wrinkled in interest, putting his hands on his cheeks diving deeper into Youngjae's collection of writing.

Youngjae gets up from the table leaving Daehyun reading in peace. He walks over to order bubble tea and coffee. From Daehyun's expression and lack of sense around his surroundings, he seemed to be really intrigued in Youngjae's work. Youngjae walks back over to the table and sits down tapping Daehyun on the shoulder lightly. "Which one do you want?" He puts the two drinks in front of Daehyun and Daehyun grabs the iced coffee. Youngjae sips on his bubble tea waiting for Daehyun to finish, as he takes out another journal and begins to write about him.

"Today I feel content. I know that it's dumb to feel so happy over one person. I know that it's wrong to depend your happiness on people because they usually let you down. But it's different. I could never imagine the man sitting in front of me letting me down."

Youngjae closes the journal at the same time Daehyun closes his. "Can I ask, who is this boy you talk about in your writing?" Daehyun asks with a curious and oblivious expression. Youngjae gulps, knowing that if he could confess now, it would be perfect. He rips out the paper in the journal he just wrote on and hands it over to Daehyun with shaking hands. It takes Daehyun less than a moment to read the tiny words on the piece of paper. Youngjae's heart was beating faster than ever as he waited for Daehyun's response. Daehyun looks up from the piece of paper at the already flushed Youngjae and writes on the same piece of paper.

"And today will not be the only day you feel content. It's okay to feel happy over one person because I know that feeling too. I will never let you down."

was this too unfluffy? AHHAaha i mean did this have enough fluff? I really hope it did because I was kind of dying of Youngjae's shyness while writing this.
