Love Hate

Daejae Fluff One-Shot Collection

I.

You know what's very hard? When people you hate are extremely good looking. I guess I should say there's one particular guy I despise but I'd make out with that face anyday. Yeah you know that type of person?

Daehyun puffs out a sigh blowing the strands of his front bangs up as he watches the clock. He should like chorus class but he didn't. He enjoyed singing but he didn't enjoy the class because Daehyun believed the class was useless. Singing doesn't need to be taught to someone? It just happens. At least it did for him. "Class, we are having the usual weekly duet competetions again. Since you kids couldn't  handle picking your own partners last time, I will have to assign you all one this time and this will be an urgent one, you get one class period to practice and the performance will be tonight at 6:30." The whole class sighs in unison. The only parts of chourus class Daehyun enjoyed were the solo activities and sometimes the duet competetions. He was actually happy with the fact the teacher's chose their partners because he did not socialize much and did not talk to the people in his class. Daehyun was not what someone could call "popular" but he was well known. He had one of the best vocals in the school and brought back titles and awards to the school making him a favorable person in the staff. But to the student body, he was just one who "went with the flow." He was not hated or loved, he just had an existence and that was kind of it. The teacher picks up the clip board and begins to read off a list of paired up students. "You will have the rest of the class to work on the duets and remember if you have a problem with anyone you are paired up with, dEAL WITH IT!!! If you are having bad problems with your partner, you can tell me but you will be excluded from the competetion and a zero on the assignment." The students rolled their eyes as the teacher repeated the instructions they were told every week. "Alright, first Bang Yongguk and Kim Himchan." The crowd of students roared because the two were dating already and they were the "popular" boys of the school. The teacher put on a bitter expression waiting for the kids to quiet down. "Okay, Choi Junhong and Moon Jongup, Jung Hyerim and Oh Hayoung, Yoo Youngjae and Jung Daehyun." Did I hear Yoo Youngjae. More like Poo Oldjae Daehyun thought gritting his teeth in dissapointment that his week already started out so badly. Youngjae was the most hateable person he could think of in this classroom. Out of everyone, it had to be him. He locked eyes with Youngjae and Youngjae waved and winked at him. He did not know if that was supposed to be a sincere or mocking gesture. Daehyun stared back at him as a flashback came to his mind.

A 9 year old boy sits on his porch steps. The little version of Daehyun stared outside through the tiny crack in the wooden door with his twin sister Hyerim or Eunji (what he prefered to call her) let him stand on her shoulders. "Daehyun, are you done can you get off my shoulder now?" Eunji whined as Daehyun continued to creep through the crack. "Just a second. Just a second. I'm doing this for you anyway!" He yelled from above, trying to balance on her shoulder. "I can't do this anymore!!!!!" Eunji squeaks out. They collapse on the ground scratching the skin of Eunji's knee. "When is mom coming home? You're bleeding and the boy won't stop bothering us!!" Daehyun runs around Eunji in circles in panic. "it's okay, wait I will go get some band-aids from our neighbors." She replied, standing up but still holding onto her bleeding knee. "But you have to go through the kid to leave the house!!!" Daehyun screeched in panic as he felt tears forming in his eyes. "Where is mom?"

Eunji opens the door of the house and breaks into a run screaming as Youngjae follow closely behind her. "Leave me alone!!!" She yells with a scrunched up face at Youngjae. "My friend told me to deliver a message to you!" Youngjae replies innocently as he drags Eunji by the wrist towards the direction of the playground. "Leave me alone!!! I don't want to talk to your friend!!!" She yells as she starts to cry. "But I have to do this for my friend!!" Now Youngjae became angrier and drags her with a firmer grip. Eunji gives up letting Youngjae lead her to the playground. He puts her onto a swing set and asks her to wait there. She sits patiently and rocks the swing back and forth as Youngjae and his friend's come back with a large bucket. "Surprise!!!" They drench her with cold water and eggs her face leaving scratches on her cheeks. "Yah! What the heck!" She screams with tears down her face and slaps a random boy from the group blinded by the water in her eyes. The group of boys taunt her and shatters into giggles laughing at how drenched she was. "That's what you get for dropping all my colored pencils on the floor in art class!!" The group of boys quickly run off leaving Eunji by herself on the swing set as night began to fall. Daehyun finally finds his sister on the swing set and hugs her in shock. "Who did this to you?" He asks as anger begins to bubble up inside of him. "I-It was Yoo Youngjae and his friends!"

Daehyun stares in disgust as Youngjae walked closer to him. "What do you want?" Daehyun spat the words out roughly gazing at Youngjae as hostile as possible. He knew it had been years since Youngjae bullied his sister, but the fact that someone had that inside of him was very very repulsive to him, even if it was just a 9 year old boy. Youngjae laughs at the quick wall Daehyun build in between them already. "Daehyun, do you not remember that we are partners for this thing?" He laughs setting down his music in front of him. "Oh... err sorry... I mean ugh yeah okay." Daehyun replies still trying to hold something against Youngjae. It was extremely hard to be a bitter person to someone who he barely knew now, and had such an unblemished appearnce. "God dammit." Daehyun mutterted under his breath as Youngjae set his music onto the stand. Now, that the two were this close since years, Daehyun could not help but notice how perfectly shaped every feature on his face was. He shook away the thoughts and began to look at the music in front of them. The song they were assigned to sing was "Ordinary People" by John Legend.

"Okay let's practice." Youngjae took the music and grabbed onto Daehyun's hand leading him through the crowd of kids and out the door into the school garden. Daehyun's soft colored cheeks were exchanged into a dark tint of red from the sudden hand holding. He was supposed to hate him but it was so hard because of his good looks and forgivefulness to his rude greetings before. Hating people was so much work, oh how he wanted to stop but he still felt angry for what Youngjae did when they were kids. Youngjae let go of his hand as they arrive into the garden with no other people around and Daehyun looks away trying to hide his hot, blushing face. "What are you doing Daehyun?" Youngjae chuckled lightly sitting down on the edge of a raised flower bed's outer lining of concrete. Daehyun continued to hide his face, now using the sheet music to cover his head. "It's all good, I memorized the songs before hand." Youngjae lets him take all the sheet music and quietly inches his face towards Daehyun's face leaving the papers as the only barrier in between them. Daehyun was still unaware that Youngjae had crept so close. "Are you blushing??" Youngjae teases as the paper shakes from his snicker. The startled Daehyun takes the paper out of his face and Youngjae's nose touched his. I guess you could legally change Daehyun's name to "Tomato" now from the color of his cheeks as the two stay still blinking and staring into each other's eyes. Youngjae clears his throat clumsily scoots his back over to his original spot. "So let's sing."

Daehyun beings "Ordinary People" with a sweet and low tone smiling as he sings. The lyrics described a girl but they both knew that it was more about them so he changes "Girl" to "Boy".

"Girl Boy im in love with you
This ain't the honeymoon
Past the infatuation phase
Right in the thick of love
At times we get sick of love
It seems like we argue everyday"

Youngjae clears his throat before he begins his part of the song.

"I know i misbehaved
And you made your mistakes
And we both still got room left to grow
And though love sometimes hurts
I still put you first
And we'll make this thing work
But I think we should take it slow"

Their eyes lock together as they sing more passionatley. And when the song ends, they stand there breathless looking into each other's eyes as they recover from the after effects of melting into the melody of the music. They catch their breath and begin to laugh in amazement at how well they could harmonize. "So are you ready to win?" Daehyun asked rhetorically as a grin lit up his face. "Very ready." Youngjae replies still out of breath from laughing.

The bell rings marking the end of the chorus class, and the couple went their separate ways anticipating for their performance tonight. Daehyun rushes home to find a classy but sassy attire for the performance tonight. He was spending more time than usual, not aware of the fact that Youngjae was the reason. He sprayed a little more cologne on and spent just a little more time on his hair. Daehyun was oblivious of his own feelings, the only feeling he knew was that he was supposed to hate Youngjae. But that was what he was supposed to feel not what he actually feels.

He arrives at the school stage and sits down on the front row reserved for performers/competitors. Youngjae sat down next to him and accidently places his arm on the arm rest in between them with Daehyun's arm already on it. Daehyun flinches and blinks several times, praying that the dim lights would hide his warm cheeks right now. Daehyun almost moves his arm off from under Youngjae's but Youngjae grabs onto his hand keeping it under his, sending him the message to not move his arm. Daehyun felt his stomach summersaulting and the lights on the stage flicker on. "Welcome to tonight's duet competetions! This was a very urgent one so the performances might not be on point, but this will also test our students' abilities!" The teacher introduces on the stage as the audience applauds. "First up, Eunji and Hayoung!" The two girls walk to the stage and are handed microphones.

Daehyun felt the anger boil up inside him again as his sister began to sing on stage. He had to confront Youngjae or something, it just bothered him too much to just let go. "Youngjae, do you remember when you bullied my sister? That's why I was so rude to you." Daehyun leans in to Youngjae's ears and speaks. Youngjae doesn't respond for a second and thinks. He then leans over and says something but Daehyun could not catch what he was saying due to the cheering of the audience. "What?" Daehyun mouths to Youngjae. Youngjae motions for Daehyun to come closer so he can say something, and before Daehyun could get very close, Youngjae leans and pecks him on the cheek.

Daehyun's face flushes and he mutters in an indoor voice. "God dammit Youngjae why do you have to be so goodlooking?" The song ends and the music stops in the middle of the sentence and Daehyun's last words of the sentence now appeared louder since the room was quiet. Youngjae laughs at Daehyun's foolishneses and squishes his pink cheeks. "You think so huh?" Youngjae winks as the teacher calls them up for the next duet up on stage.

The two boys grab the microphones and stands up straight, staring into each other's eyes as they wait for the music cue. They could hear the audience whisper "this is going to be good" and "the best singer in our school collab!" They both enjoyed the presence of the audience and one another as the song beings and Daehyun brings the mic closer to his lips.

Their smiles grow brighter and wider as the song progresses and they both fall into each other's voices and harmony. Even though they were supposed to dislike each other, they had one thing they both shared to love too much and it was music. And eventually, another thing would be shared to love, and it would be each other.

Hello hope you liked this one! I kind of made Daehyun the shy one in this one because I felt making Youngjae the shy one constantly would be too repetetive. Special thanks to my friend Camryn who helped me come up with this plot c: I would really appreciate it if you comment and upvote if you liked the chapter. Thanks for reading!

* forgive me for my typos and gramatic errors if i made any because I am typing this at night and I am super tired right now sorry ;__;

just stating that I do not own the lyrics to the Ordinary People song by John Legend. IT IS BY JOHN LEGEND. All credits to him and the people who composed it.
