Chapter 3

“Okay you little monkeys! It’s Thursday! You know what that means, Symphonic band sectionals are a must!” yelled a pudgy middle aged man as he waved his baton.

A groan escaped the student’s lips causing the director to scoff, “Oh you guys, sectionals aren’t thaaaaat bad.”

“Oh sure they aren’t Mr. Miller,” the kids replied sarcastically.

A laugh erupted from the band director before sighing in defeat as he watched students leave. The students were divided into two groups. During the fifth period lunch period, the period was divided into two parts. First half of the period consisted of woodwind players in the music resource aka band room doing homework or participating in a sectional. As for the brass and percussion players, they were sent to the cafeteria to have their lunch. When twenty minutes were up, the roles were switched for the second half of the period.

Carefully placing his saxophone down, Taeyeon got up to meet up with some friends. A group of girls stood at a particular side where he made his way to. They were a group of juniors who he called his friends. Climbing over chairs he stood beside them.

“It’s Taeyeon!”

“Did you know what Taeyeon did this morning? She kept blocking me from getting past her during passing period,” pouted Victoria, one of Taeyeon’s closest friends.

Taeyeon couldn’t help but wince at the sound of female pronouns. A sigh escaped his lips as he couldn’t help but to nod and smile. It bogged him down when he was always referred to a girl. It’s not who he was. It made him uncomfortable when he was always referred as she or her or anything feminine. As much as he wanted to tell them how he felt, he was too scared of what would happen.

Hearing the dismissal bell, the young teenager walked towards the front of the room. He remembered an announcement made a few weeks back about their new attendance routine. Since there were too many people in the band room during 5a/5b lunch period, the teacher had told them to use the tag board. The tag board was a board with little chips that are numbered. Each student was given a number to flip to mark their attendance. On certain days they flipped to purple, on other days they flipped to white.

Once he flipped his tag, he turned around and found a familiar blonde from a week ago. Taking a deep breath he walked up to her and held his hand up in front of her. The young blonde gave him a weird look as her eyes trailed from her hand to his face. Confusion was written all over her face. Taeyeon just motioned for his hand for her to give him a high-five.

Her long slender arms made their way toward Taeyeon’s hand; only for Taeyeon to move his hand away. A smirk was now placed on Taeyeon’s face as he looked at the pouting Jessica. This time he thought of being nice and held out his hand again.

Jessica wasn’t going to fall for this one again, she stared at him hard. “No,”

Taeyeon rolled his eyes and motioned for his hand again, “C’mon I’ll be nice this time,”

Jessica went for his hand again only to be psyched out once again. The young blonde stared at him hard and shook her head. The young lad could only laugh to himself and wiggle his eyebrows at the young girl.

When the bell had rung, announcing the start of fifth period, Taeyeon frowned as he had to go back to his seat. He smiled at Jessica before running off.

“You were terrible,” Jessica pouted as she combed her hair.

“You loved me,” Taeyeon smirked.

“Sadly I did...”
