002 Solo Night

The Story Of Us

Chapter 2

“It’s so weird to be back here...” grumbled Taeyeon as he walked the halls of his old middle school. It’s been more than a year since he came and visited the school. Last time he was seen walking through these halls was the first week of his freshman year at SM North.

He wasn’t really sure why he came back here. He remembered promising himself never coming back. But if it wasn’t his mother’s orders of coming to help out, he wouldn’t be here at all. His mother had told him that when he went through all three years of his middle school career, he too had to face solo night. So that’s how he ended up here, helping, supposedly giving support to the younger ones.

Solo Night, was the middle school’s band requirement. The band director would invite multiple judges for different instruments to judge an individual student’s solo. They were given a number from one to four, one being the best. Taeyeon remembers feeling so proud of himself when he got a one all three years of middle school. He wouldn’t admit it, but he really was glad to be back.

Taeyeon’s job was to go from room to room collecting grading sheets from each judge. Once he collected the sheets he would walk to the teacher’s lounge to give the grade sheets to the volunteer mothers, who would then post student’s scores on the trophy case. It usually took fifteen minutes to twenty minutes to get scores up, depending how fast students could get the graded sheets to the lounge.

Yet Taeyeon really didn’t do what he was told. He pretty much just walked around the school meeting up with his friends that decided to volunteer as well. Sure every once in awhile he would gather grading sheets, but that’s only because he wanted to grab some food for himself. It was like that for an hour when Taeyeon finally got bored. He ended up walking around to the band room looking for any familiar faces. From that he walked towards the science department looking for his favorite teachers.

At perfect timing he caught up with one of his old teachers. It was a great feeling that she had remembered him as well. Their conversation was short since she had to play as an accompaniment to a few other students. Just as he was going to walk away, something had caught Taeyeon’s eyes.

It was the blonde girl from pep band. Smiling, he turned to look at her and brought up a conversation, “Hey! You’re here!”

“Yeah...”

“Why are you here?”

“Because my mom told me to... I know the band director?”

“Really? I know her too cause I went here for middle school,” smiled Taeyeon.

“That’s cool. She was my flute instructor,”

“Oh really? Do you like her?”

Taeyeon watched the girl nod her head and smile, “Yeah, she’s the person that got me to be as good as I am now,”

“Weird... nobody likes her...”

“Oh why?”

“She’s... she’s just tough,”

“I know the feeling, but I guess I only like her because I know her through a personal level,”

Taeyeon nodded. Something about this girl was very intriguing to Taeyeon. He didn’t know what but he liked talking to her. In the back of his mind Taeyeon had the nagging feeling of wanting to become friends with this girl because she knew Tiffany on a personal level. But he knew it was rude and disrespectful to approach a girl in that kind of manner.

The two of them talked for another hour. Taeyeon completely forgot his task and was just so into their conversation. Even though their conversation was mostly of Taeyeon’s old middle school experience or just some small talk, Taeyeon was completely immersed with her. To his dismay his mother had texted him telling him that she was here to pick her up.

A sigh, “I have to go... mom is here to pick me up...”

“Alright, it was nice seeing you here,”

“Yeah! What’s your name again?” questioned Taeyeon shyly.

“It’s Jessica, you’re Taeyeon right?”

Taeyeon nodded and smiled, “The one and only. I’ll see you at school Jessica,”

For the first time in a long time, Taeyeon felt upset to be leaving his old middle school. He wanted to get to know her more.

“That’s when I started to observe you,” Jessica smirked.

“Ew, why would you observe me... I was ugly as a sophomore in high school,” groaned Taeyeon as he made a face.

An arm smacked Taeyeon right in the chest, “You were not. I thought you were cute. I don’t think I would have started observing you if you weren’t cute,” Jessica scoffed.

The young lad couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “Whatever you say babe,” he laughed as he stood up from is his chair.

“Got plans today?”

“I was thinking about going to see my parents today. Would you like to come along?” Taeyeon smiled as he faced the latter.

Springing up from her seat a smile plastered the blonde’s face, “I would love to see your mother! I haven’t seen her since we moved into our house,”

A chuckle escaped Taeyeon’s lips, “Babe... you saw her last weekend,”

“That’s a long time!”

“Sure... whatever you say my love,”

Jessica began taking the dishes to the sink. She was going to start washing the dishes when a pair of arms wrapped around her waist. Sure they’ve been together for more than ten years now, but Taeyeon never failed to make her knees go weak or liven the butterflies in her stomach.

“I love you Jessica,” mumbled Taeyeon as he nuzzled his nose against Jessica’s neck. “I love you so much... you mean the whole world to me,”

His words always made her heart melt. That was one of the many reasons why she loved him. It wasn’t because he was undeniably cute, but he had the warmest heart ever. He knew how to make her feel good about herself. And most importantly she knew that she can always depend on him whenever she needed to, which of course was always.

Light kisses were placed behind her ear. Jessica couldn’t help but bite her lower lip. She flinched and playfully pushed Taeyeon to the side. “Babe you’re giving me goosebumps!”

“You know you love it when I do that,”

“Maybe..”
