Ch 8 [The Vendetta]

“What did you do with my documents?”
Hyuk went looking for his documents as soon as he entered Tae Hyun’s residence.
“Hey, hey don’t worry. Who am I? I’m the great Cha Tae Hyun!”
Hyuk smirked at Tae Hyun who confidently led him through the house.
“That aside, why did you put all those really important documents together all messily like that? They were so hard to find, I even organized everything.” He continued, “From the looks of it, that guy Jo Jin Woong is the criminal for sure….. But there really is very little evidence. I have a conviction, but it doesn’t look like there’s any physical proof.”
“That’s why we really need Ji Hyo-ssi.”
“You know, the missie has such an odd fate. Of all the things, she had to go see him dump the dead body.”
“Not conviction, but indisputable, physical proof. I need to find evidence that will kill him for sure. Do you think you can find some info on the guy?”
“Who do you think I am? Don’t worry about it.”
The two looked at each other exchanging matching grins. Just before they entered the room where Tae Hyun had organized all the evidence—
Ding dong.
The doorbell rang.
“...Who is it? Were you expecting someone?”
“No…”
Sensing something strange, Tae Hyun quickly used the interphone to look outside.
There outside, stood Min Soo and Jae Suk.
-Conference room before the search.
Min Soo and Jae Suk were waiting for Hyuk. Just then, Min Soo reached into his desk and pulled out a small device.
“If he comes right now, the punk probably would have got rid of all the evidence already. Later, I’m going to plant this bug on his person, it’s a concealed microphone with GPS capabilities. Then he’ll believe he has us fooled and lead us straight to the place where he hid the files.”
Jae Suk looked at Min Soo strangely.
“You’re not going to take his side?”
“It’s largely my fault that he’s come to this point…. I should set him straight.” He said the words, but there was no way his warring heart was at ease.
-Tae Hyun’s house.
A fierce tension twisted together strangely, flowing throughout the house.
Min Soo fumed, head spinning with quiet rage and despondent hopelessness. The conversation captured on the listening device had defied their wildest imaginations.
“You know, the missie has such an odd fate. Of all the things, she had to go see him dump the dead body.”
“Not conviction, but indisputable, physical proof. I need to find evidence that will kill him for sure.”
Hyuk was enraged at the fact they had planted a listening device on him. And he raged again that he would not be able to kill him so easily now.
“Where is the witness?” It was more of a command than a question.
“....Do you think I will tell you, sir?”
A furious whirlwind whipped up between Min Soo and Hyuk.
“Do you know how heavy the crime is for hiding a witness? And we’re not talking about a witness for just a simple robbery, but a witness for Smile Face,” Jae Suk stated.
Hyuk smirked. “Look here, inspector. Do you know what will happen if I turn this witness over to the police, the prosecutors, that is, your team?” He continued with a cold smile at the edge of his words. “Tae Hyun, how many of the police investigators and prosecutors are connected to this Jo Jin Woong bastard again?”
“Ah, the higher ups for sure, and he also has all sorts of material about numerous lesser officers as well.”
“Then, what would happen if this witness was turned over to the investigation force? If Jo Jin Woong is caught, no doubt there will be a stream of resignation letters, chock-full of people who’ll be dumped behind the bars…. Would they just stand there and watch?”
