Fated Coincidence

001 : “hello, korea.”

— JANUARY 18, 2014 (05:52:44): LAX.

It's almost 6:00AM at the Los Angeles airport and the inner perimeter of it is already surrounded by loving fans of the Korean photographer-modeling duo (and their managers/translators) scheduled to fly to their home country and reside there for the next three years. Some fifty to seventy fans were there, smiling as Jessica Jung Sooyeon and Krystal Jung Soojung strutted inside confidently while carrying their suitcases and carry-ons. Each hurriedly waved to their adoring fans and signed a few autographs, then disappeared into the inner area of the airport because of their rush.

"Jess, I told you that stopping for coffee wasn't going to help us out when we got to the airport." Krystal looked at her sister as she took a sip of her caramel frappuccino.

"Yeah, I know. But it makes us look cooler, you know?" The shorter smiled. Krystal rolled her eyes at her sister, but then broke into a short, but kind smile. Jessica was a hard one to read, but that was what made her so interesting to some people.

"Let's just get through security and go buy breakfast, alright?" She laughed lightly, then led the elder to the security line.

As the girls waited to get to the front of the line, they yawned, blinked, stared into space, played on their phones, anything to keep them distracted from the butterflies rising in their stomachs. Moving from America to Korea seemed like such an exciting thing to do, yet at the same time was a scary thing to do. Re-learning a language, finding your way around things, learning the customs, finding new friends, even just looking for a place to sit down and rest were things they needed to become acquainted to in their new neighborhood. It would be hard, but the Jung sisters were stronger than that, just giving up.

Jessica looked up from her phone's white glow once she finished a round of her favorite mobile game and two familiar figures caught her eye. They seemed to be lost, but determined to find someone, probably someone important. Squinting, she saw one if the girls break into an eye smile at the other's joke.

"Krys, look over there," Jessica gestured at the pair with her phone.

"That's... Amber and Tiffany!" Krystal ran off in their direction, leaving her older sister to follow behind (but not before telling their managers to save their places in line, of course).

Amber was almost tackled to the floor by a smaller, more feminine figure than hers. When she saw who it was, she pointed down at her and pretended to look uncomfortable.

"Did someone lose their child?" The tomboy joked, pointing to her best friend.

"Shut up and hug me, idiot."

"Alright, since it's going to be a while until we meet again, you poop."

"Tiff, I thought you weren't coming to see us off because you had work?" Jessica poked her friend's nose, making an annoyed face. "Liar."

"I called in sick because I couldn't bear to see my soft-serve ice cream and soft-serve junior leave without saying goodbye." Tiffany extended her arms to hug the eldest, only to be punched in the upper arm by a reluctant Jessie. Of course, her best friend hugged her anyway. Both pairs of girls walked to their place in line, talking about their plans in Korea and about all the things they couldn't talk about before they broke the news. Once they reached the front of the line, Tiffany had to hold back tears and stay strong while she and Amber waved the Jung duo off as they passed through security.

"Hey, Amber?"

"Yeah?"

"I wish I could have spent more time with her."

— JANUARY 18, 2014 (22:57:13): SNA.

"It's dark outside, let's go to sleep."

"You slept for the majority of the plane ride here!"

The Jung sisters finally arrived at Seoul National Airport with their managers after a safe flight from Los Angeles. Of course, they all were tired and planned on turning in early that night, but not until their stomachs were filled with the sweet taste of Korean dessert. As the girls began exiting the airport, they signed a few autographs and waved to the few fans who managed to meet them outside the building. After a few questions were asked and a few people were met, they finally found their way to a relatively small, nice place close to where they would live.

"Remember when mom used to take us out to get shaved ice? She'd call it something different, but what was it...?" Sooyeon shoveled a spoonful of the dessert she was sharing into .

"Pat... Batping... Bingsoo?" Her sister guessed as she took a bite as well, tilting her head.

"Patbingsoo!" She snapped her fingers and almost made Soojung drop her spoon in the shaved ice.

"Stop doing that, you scare me when you do things so suddenly!" The younger exclaimed, pinching her sister's cheek softly.

"I can't help my personality!"

As the two fought, they were oblivious to the bell above the door ring, signaling someone entering. One particular person casually walked into the store with a bright smile and a polite bow to the owner. The male was a bit short in height and posessed the facial qualities of a celebrity, which is what he seemed to be. The owner of the shop gave him a surprised look, bowed multiple times, and afterwards gestured to the table to the left of the arguing Jung sisters. The young man sat down graciously, then turned to the two girls who argued in a foreign language. He looked at the old man with a curious look to remind himself of why he was here.

"I'll just have regular green tea shaved ice, thank you." He nodded as the man walked behind the counter to make his order.

"Well at least I don't dream about being a princess all the time!" The youngest Jung exclaimed.

"Krystal Jung!" Jessica was about to lunge over and cover the younger's mouth until a sound disrupted their fight.

The man cleared had his throat.

Unaware that there was a male sitting next to them, the two froze in place, a little embarrassed about the way they were acting over a small action. Jessica looked over to see someone she had never expected to see in reality.

This was the prince from her dreams, dressed in a blazer and skinny jeans.

"Krys, I need to go to the restroom."

"Why are you telling me this? You're a grown woman, you can-" She clasped a hand over her younger sister's mouth and dragged her struggling body into the ladies' room. As soon as she let go of the girl's face, her muffled shouts were replaced with clearly heard whisper-shouts at her sister. "What was that for? You messed up my lipstick."

"We need to polish our Korean skills and learn the culture of this place fast. We need to buy hanbok, learn how to cook, and get you into school-"

"Woah, woah, hey! Slow down there, Jess! What's with the sudden interest in Korea? Last time I checked, you wouldn't let go of the door handle when we left home." Soojung blew her long, platinum blonde bangs out of her eyes.

"Did you see that guy that was sitting next to us?" A serious Jessica leaned in closer to her sister's face.

"He's the reason?! You'll probably never see him again, what's the point of doing all that for a person you'll only see once?" She raised an eyebrow.

"He's not just any person off the street! He was sent to us for a reason, Soojung. We're bound to meet again, I can just feel it!" Sooyeon brought her hands up to her chest and clenched her fists, looking into the distance.

"... Jessie, you should try to be more realistic sometime." Said an anamused Soojung as she tried to escape the bathroom.

"That's the guy who's been in my dreams for the past three years."

"WHAT?! You could have just said so earlier, I would have understood why you pulled me in here!" She dropped her hold on the doorknob and held her sister's shoulders. "You have to go out there and ask for his number. I want to see what direction will go."

Jessica hit her sister on the arm. "Don't use me for your own amusement." The elder turned to the door and took in a deep breath before twisting it slowly and pushing it to reveal an empty shop. "E-eh?"

Krystal pushed past her frozen sister to look for the man, but he was gone. While walking to the counter, she scanned her mind for a Korean phrase to use to ask the old man. She cleared . "Um... Excuse me, did you know who the man was?" Realizing she probably sounded rearly American when speaking Korean, she told the man she wasn't fluent in the language yet.

"Oh, oh, yes, he is Donghae! From here," He pointed to a poster behind the counter, which she quickly snapped a picture of. "Uh, model!" The English was butchered, but she understood what he meant.

"Ah, thank you, ahjussi." She bowed a few times before picking up their stuff, paying the man, and dragging her sister to the parking lot.

— JANUARY 18, 2014 (23:32:09): JUNG HOUSEHOLD.

"Ah, I can't believe I missed him! I'm so mad at myself!" Sooyeon pressed a pillow onto her bare, frowning face and fell onto the couch.

"It's alright, unnie, we can find him tomorrow." Soojung walked around the wide space in their living room, tapping at her phone with a wide smile. "He's not that far, actually."

"Unnie means older sister in Korean, right?" Jessica took the pillow off her face and she saw at her sister nodding back. Putting the pillow back on her face, she let out a deep sigh. "And anyway, weren't you the one who said to be realistic and move on?"

"Do you want me to help you or not?"

"No, continue."

After their short hygiene routine, both entered their designated rooms and fell asleep peacefully, restoring energy for their schedule the next day. Jessica entered her familiar dream world, seeing her prince and marrying him once again, like usual. Although, that night wasn't as enjoyable as the others because of her sudden discomfort in seeing his face. A variation of what if's came to mind during that dream.

What if Krys doesn't find him?

What if he's not from here and has to leave tomorrow?

What if we do meet him, but he hates me?

What if he thinks we're crazy because of what happened at that shop?

What if I accidentally fall in love with him? Am I allowed to?

What if I never see him again?

어디니? 뭐하니?

"WHERE ARE YOU? WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I'LL PROBABLY BE WAKING UP FROM YOUR DREAM TOMORROW."
