The Institute
Kibum left the Academy library at around half three in the morning, rubbing the ache at the base of his spine. He trudged through the corridors of the old building and began making his journey to bed. It was calling his name, he could hear it.
He peered into the different rooms as he passed them though they were all dark. However, as he got closer to the exit, he was surprised one of the surveillance rooms completely lit up with commotion. A dozen regular agents were in there and crowding round a row of computers. Kibum rubbed at his sleep filled eyes and continued to stare through the glass door, his tired brain trying to catch up with what was he could see. As he processed the information before him and his telekinesis woke up a little, he began to pick up information and found himself quietly slipping into the room.
He was too far away to see what was on the computers and began to move closer, only to be startled by the big screen flaring into life. One of the agents was projecting the footage that was causing such a hubbub. Kibum watched a CCTV video play out although nothing appeared to be happening for a while. Then a tall figure came into view, walking down the alley in the shot. All of a sudden, three other men jumped up behind him and wrestled him to the ground. He tried to put up a fight but they overpowered him and then one pulled out a knife.
The thug rammed the blade into the poor guy’s chest and then took off with his cronies. Kibum sighed, feeling distressed by the needless violence. He was just about to leave the surveillance room when the regular agents started to raise their voices again and point at the screen. Kibum narrowed his eyes, not understanding what was so fascinating but then he gasped. The figure in the video began to crumble into ash, his body disintegrating where he lay and sure enough, within moments the ash burst into flame from which arose the same man as before. Kibum stared, wide-eyed and slack-jawed.
They had found another phoenix.
