Still You

Prologue

“Mom?”
“Yes?”
“Is it happy to be in love?” her son asked.
“Now why would such a young man like you ask that?” she said, looking at her 3 year old son.
“Nothing.” the boy shrugged. “I saw a young couple at the park today when I was with Haneul noona and Heejin and they look so happy.”
“When the right time comes, you’ll come to know about it Junhyung-ah.” she said, smiling at him.
“And the guy looks like the girl’s slave!” her son commented causing her to furrow her eyebrows and a swarm of memories to come back at her psyche.
“How did you say so my little prince?” she asked, suddenly interested.
“The guy still carried his girlfriend’s bag even though his already carrying his backpack and the backpack looks heavy mom, and not just the bag, even the couple of books that belonged to the girl. Do boyfriends really have to do that to their girlfriends?”
“It depends on the guy Junhyung-ah, if he wants to do it then good, if not, it’s ok.”
“When I grow up, I will treat my wife like a Queen!”
“Really? How?” she asked, unable to hide the smile that’s forming on her lips.
“I’ll cook for her, I’ll clean the house for her, wash the dishes for her, sing for her, play the piano for her, buy everything that she wants, everything! I’ll do everything for her as long as I can.” her son answered continuously, the kind of answer that a three year old boy won’t likely give, giving her a wave of nostalgia once again.
“But what about mom then?” she asked again, cupping her son’s face. 
“Of course you will be the Queen among the Queens!”
“Will you tell mom when you’re already in love?”
“Yes! My Queen will be the first to know!” her son said, smiling to his mother.
“Promise?”
“Promise!”
“You sleep then, it’s already late.”
“Ok.” her son said, lying down, while she pulled the blanket up to her son’s chin. “I love you mom.”
“I love you too, Junhyung-ah.” she said, as she watch her son close his eyes and slowly drift into his little dreamland and allow the multitude of memoirs to enfold around her and make her wistful once again and take her to the past that she will never regret to remember over and over again.
