Chapter 2

Chanyeol - EXO Drabble 2/12

TVXQ’s “Mirotic” blared from the first station, the amped bass reverberating through your chests as you and your friends strutted down the decorated trail to the park. A sea of lanterns illuminated the sky with their tawny glow, and the cold air was drowning in the scent of fallen maple leaves and firewood. It totally set the mood and everyone felt it, too. The boys stood a little taller, the girls held their heads higher.

Seong Ah insisted you all stop here first because like, “Omg guys, this is my jam!” So there you were, hands in the air, body moving, with Chanyeol up close. He remained by your side the entire walk, convincing you not to stress about the “incident”. Using the time it took to get to the park to toss around some questions, he asked you about yourself and how you met Seong Ah, wondered if you were willing to exchange cell numbers. He even remarked at how beautiful your hair was and admitted the resentment he felt after cutting his own long hair. You felt like you were being interviewed by him, not that it bothered you; in all actuality, you were quite the chatterbox so you answered each and every question with lots of thought put into it.

But now the only words that were spoken were the lyrics that bounced off of the speakers and the adrenaline induced spell cast upon you guys. Surprisingly, the boys had morphed into a little bunch at some point during the song and had the song’s choreography down to a t. You and the girls hollered excitedly and mirrored their moves until the end of the song. Chanyeol came straight to you and slapped his hands against your upes. “Hey, that was awesome!” The sweaty boy grinned and shook his head. “Seriously, it was really good!”

He chuckled and wiped his brow. “Thank you, but I’m pretty sure you and the girls did a better job.” He winked suggestively and you playfully bumped his shoulder.

The two of you followed everyone else into the next tent, jumping and screaming at the top of your lungs once more. Yeah, this was definitely the best way to end finals week. Three more music filled stands and a red-headed clown show later, you found yourself casually resting against Chanyeol’s lean body, one of his arms resting over your shoulders. You were standing among a group of people watching a young rapper kill it with his fast-paced freestyle. You looked on, very impressed at his talent. Iseul and Jin Hye were completely smitten by his devilish looks. You had to admit, he was y.

The young man, a so-called Kai, ended his skit and the crowd roared in approval, the occasional whistle and hoot ringing in the air.

You couldn't help but to squeal your approval. “Oh, he was so good!” You heard Chanyeol scoff.

“What?”

“I can do better.”

You eyed him speculatively. “You can rap?”

Just as you asked, Kai began to walk closer to the audience, offering his mic to anyone who wanted to try out their own skills. “Just come on up! It’s yours if you want it.”

Chanyeol threw you a dimpled smirk before stepping forward onto the low platform. He whispered into boy’s ear and he replied with a swift nod of his head. They separated and Kai’s voice sounded through the speakers once more. “Okay guys, this over here is my homeboy Chanyeol and we are going to put a little something together for y’all, so I’m a need all of you to make some noise!” Kai signaled the DJ and a fast beat began to play.

{Watch/Listen}

You couldn’t believe it. He was actually rapping! And it was so hot. His voice was doing things to you, it was touching deep inside of you, filling you. You shivered and looked at him once more, your eyes a bit hazy. His appeal had shot through the roof, the way he handled the microphone in his hands leaving you to wonder what his touch might be like against your skin. You felt your heart speed up. Your body tingled from the vibrations carried through the air and you could feel your temperature rising against the cool night. Your lips parted and slight puffs of air visibly made their way through your lips. His mouth moved rapidly to form rhymes, but all you could think of was whether or not he could move his mouth like that on you.

Before you could further delve into your consuming thoughts, the duo smoothly came to a stop. You stared at Chanyeol as he bowed to Kai, to the audience and then confidently stride over to you. He slid a finger across your reddened cheeks and asked, “How was I?”

Small, inaudible gasps were all you could manage.

He bit his lip and stepped a little closer. “Was I that good? Hm?” He was near enough for you to take in his scent, worsening your state of mind. It looked as if he was about to hold you, maybe for a hug. Maybe for a kiss.

But several voices interrupted his intentions.

“Bro that was the best!” Jin Hwan and his friends, Myung Soo and Hyo Shin all hovered around him in respectful awe, patting his back and ruffling his hair.

The girls came up behind you clapping loudly. “You were really cool, oppa!”

Chanyeol scratched the back of his neck. “Thanks guys,” his hand slid down to scratch around the area of his throat. He was nervous. “Do you mind if we go get some water?”

“Of course!”

As usual, Seong Ah led the way to the “silent” side of the park, where there was less commotion, plenty of open spaces and fresh air. You guys bought your drinks from some random popcorn stand and huddled around an area of empty bleachers shaded in by the tree line. You sat down on a far corner in hopes of getting your head on straight.

But all that when down the drain when a pair of long legs stretched out beside you. “Hey.”

“Hi.”

You could feel his eyes on you, watching as you sipped from your bottle. You bit your tongue in order to not say something ridiculous like, “Chanyeol, you’re so freaking hot and you so bad.” Because, let’s face it, the was thick enough to slice up and serve it on a plate. You wracked your head for something to say, something normal. Something appropriate.

You turned to him and called out his name, a mischievous smile on your face.

“Yeah?”

“I haven’t told you this yet but I can rap too!”

His infectious laugh sounded in your ears. “Oh really?”

“Yup!” You brought a hand to your face, biting your finger. “Probably even better than you.”

You felt his body heat as he leaned in close, his eyes daring you. “So prove it.”

Unbeknownst to either of you, all of your friends had heard the little quarrel. Jin Hwan and Hyo Shin were quick to pounce. “Are you kidding? There’s no way you could beat Chanyeol!”

“Yeah, he’s got talent,” Hyo Shin leaned against Jin Hwan and eyed you up and down. “You? I don’t think so.”

“Hey, you two need to stop kissing so much . It’s not cute.” You felt Myung Soo place his arm against your shoulder. “I bet she can rap. And I bet she can rap just as well as Chanyeol.”

The girls nodded in agreement and Iseul spoke up. “Yeah, neither of you two can even sing a proper nursery rhyme anyway so just hush.” She turned to you, “Girl, go show them what you’re made of.” Jin Hye, Myung Soo, and Seong Ah all gave you the little push you needed for you to get started.

You shot daggers at Jin Hwan and his dork of a friend. ‘I’ll show them.’ You stole a small glance at Chanyeol and he mouthed a cute “Fighting!” in your direction. You took a deep breath and eyed the two dweebs once more.

“It’s almost midnight

Everybody chilling tight

I’m up with my homeboy

Mr. Yeollie Yeol, boy

He can kick it

He can spit it

He get with it

And you know I it get too

Cuz I’m all up with my crew

Yeah, this ain’t nothing new

And what I really mean to say

What I really wanna say is

You better watch your back, Jack

Cuz you ain’t seen nothing yet

The hell you acting like that

You better take your back.”

You finished with a curt bow and a swift flip of your hair. You turned to the noisy friends behind you, high fiving each one. When Chanyeol came around, he lifted you by the waist and tossed you up in the air. He caught you and set you down, gently parting your bangs from your face. “I got to give it to you. That was…” he exhaled and you could see a shy smile tugging at him mouth. “y.

“Chanyeol!” You tossed your head back and swatted him playfully, trying to hide the effect his words had on you.

A dull buzz came from his pocket and he pulled out his cell phone.  A deep frown replaced the smile on his face in seconds. “What’s wrong?”

He sighed. “I-I… um, could you excuse me?” He looked like a kicked puppy. “I have take this.”

“Sure, yeah no problem.” You tried to sound cheerful but you heard your concern bleed through. He softly squeezed your arm and then turned to answer his call. He stood a few feet away, standing under the shadow of a maple tree.

He spoke into his phone heatedly, obviously upset with who he was talking to. His hands made frustrated movements, his forehead creased and he paced back and forth.

You tried your best to avert your eyes, to let him have his privacy, but you just couldn’t. It was such a different boy than from before. He was serious, obviously angry, his face had crestfallen and was bitter. It made you worry even more. He was too much of a kind person, too happy to be so upset so suddenly.

Something’s wrong.

You attempted to draw your attention back to the group, but it was futile. Your mind drifted, tossing around thoughts. Jin Hye noticed your uneasiness. She patted your shoulder, “You alright?”

You faked a smile and nodded fiercely. “Of course.” You pretended to be really into whatever topic they were discussing, something about that cute rock band back at the square.

A solid twenty minutes went by before a tall shadow made its appearance. You turned to him and you saw that his cute ears were red. He took a seat near you, apologizing for his abrupt exit. “Sorry about that.”

You turned your palms up and shook your head, slightly embarrassed. “No, no. It’s fine.” Seong Ah had come to sit by you two, a wary look plastered on her face. You continued, “Everything’s okay, right?”

He brought a hand to scratch at his neck as he released a heavy sigh. “Yeah, it’s just… ” He rubbed his face, tiredness written on every plane. You waited patiently.

“It was my girlfriend.”
