‘Do you see it?’ He questioned as he pointed to the growing mass of black. It was barely visible at the moment, only peeking out from the side of the moon.

 ‘Yeah,’ I nodded with a relaxed smile on my face. ‘It’s finally starting after hours of waiting.’

 ‘It’s way better than waiting for that band you like to have their comeback, right?’

 ‘Not at all,’ I responded quickly as I stared at wonder at the sky above us. Honestly I could care less about my band right now, all I wanted was the stars and the moon. Somehow Chanyeol knew, he knew that they were my love. Seeing the galaxy sparkling above me was what gave me joy. I didn’t need happiness, not when joy was in the equation. Happiness is fleeting, it comes and goes, it’s rather petty actually. But joy, the comfort that wells up in your very being, the contentment that eases all sense of anxiety out of your mind, and the feeling of warmth, love, that mixes those two feelings into an blend that could only be described as joy. I released a sigh as I my lips. We had already been laying here for hours on the grass waiting for the lunar eclipse. So long that we could feel the dew forming beside us, but we were content, not only did we have each other’s company, and acceptance, but we had the whole galaxy at our fingertips. We could see the most beautiful painting that could ever be imagined. And it was there for us, only for us. The silence upon us was a comfortable natural silence, there were no cars, no music, no yelling, the only thing that broke the silence was the song of the cicadas.

 ‘It’s beautiful isn’t it?’ He breathed out, I looked down from the stars and smiled at him softly. His eyes were wide open, drinking in the beauty before us. His lips weren’t in the form of his signature grin, they were molded into a soft pleased smile. He looked like a work of art, his hair was slicked up, his bangs were curling slightly by his ear due to the humidity, and his face glowed with the light of the moon. He was art, his beauty only looked more sculpted and perfect under the stars.

 ‘Yeah, it really is,’ I whispered as I looked back at the stars. Very slowly the dark mass was covering the moon, looking almost like it was stealing it’s light.

 ‘I want to do something you know?’

 ‘We are doing something,’ I responded snorting in laughter as he lightly pushed my head.

 ‘Snarky,’ he stated before laughing lightly. ‘I do want to get out there, into the world. I want to go into astronomy, I want to do something about space. I want to learn more about it, I want to conquer it. Did you ever wonder why we were called EXO?’

 ‘Not really, I took the name for granted,’ I admitted softly.

 ‘It’s because EXO means out of, such as exothermic reactions, exo, they release heat, Then there are the exo planets, the outer planets, outside of our galaxy. I want that, I want to get out there and discover the unknown, I want to change what it means to be exo.’

 ‘I guess you aren’t an endo the box kinda guy,’ I mused with a smile as I admiring my pun. While EXO meant outside of endo was like inside. So inside the box, endo the box. I really amuse myself sometimes.

 ‘You’ve been with Kai too much,’ he mumbled before laughing.

 ‘Kai or no Kai you have got to admit that was clever,’ I gasped as I pointed into the sky. ‘A shooting star!’ I exclaimed happily, ‘that’s got to be the tenth one I’ve seen tonight. You know,’ my voice softened as I fell back into our original subject. ‘I admire that about you, I mean for one you know what you want to do, but you are pursuing it as well. I really appreciate that about you,’ I finished as I glanced at him with a smile. He met my gaze with an equally warm smile. Sometimes I wonder how he does it, I mean not only the courage thing but dealing with me. My habit of jumping subjects which has to be quite hard to keep up with. Especially when I switch emotional depth so much.

 ‘Have you ever compared the lunar eclipse to your life before?’ He questioned, I looked up at the moon before shaking my head. ‘I think it matches us perfectly.’

 ‘Even better than Peter and Wendy?’

 ‘Much better.’ He responded easily, I smiled and laughed lightly.

 ‘How so?’

 ‘Right now I think I’m like that darkness coming into your life, at first it looked terrible, evil-’

 ‘Evil?’ I repeated as I raised my eyebrow.

 ‘Let me finish,’ he started chuckling, I relaxed hearing the comforting sound of his deep voice speaking. ‘I was foreign, you didn’t want change, and that was what I was.’ I nodded agreeing with him. ‘But I never forced you to change,’ he pointed to the moon that now looked a deep red. ‘I just changed your perspective,’ what first started out as a dark mass was invisible, the only thing showing that it was there was the red film over the moon. The moon never changed only my perspective of it.

 ‘These metaphors all have one flaw, they always end. The moon goes back to the way it was, and Peter moves onto Wendy’s daughters after feeling betrayed by her. And eventually he forgets her.’ Nothing lasts forever, just say it, I thought darkly to myself. The time is going to come when we see each other no longer, and then where will I be?

 ‘You’ll be better,’ he interrupted my train of thought, I was used to this by now. His inane ability to just know what I was thinking, no matter what. ‘Yes, everything ends, eventually I’ll be gone, but that’s not now. It’s your choice to remember what you saw, and to decide what to keep. You can see this cover as a trap, or as an escape. Either way it doesn’t plan to hurt you, either way it’s natural, and happens all the time, and is experienced by everyone. Everyone you meet imprints on your life in some way. One day the only sign of me being in your life might be a note in your textbooks, or photos, you reminisce with. Or I might just be there with you,’ he gently took my hand as I stared into the moon’s red face. ‘You choose whether it’s a positive or a negative, I see an ending as a positive. An end means I did something, I tried, and that I myself have changed along with you, endings are a release from previous holds. Endings are natural, it always comes down to choice, how you deal with the end.’

 ‘Why are you so wise,’ I muttered as I shuffled closer to his warmer frame.

 ‘You make it sound like I came up with this.’

 ‘Don’t tell me you just used spiritus mundi and didn’t even try to come up with this on your own.’ I joked as I lightly rubbed circles into his hand using my thumb.

 ‘No, I got it all from Suho,’ he retorted. I dissolved into giggles as I looked up at the star. I my lips as I pointed my other hand up, my index finger tracing constellations. I wasn’t pointing out a specific one, I was looking at them all, it was therapeutic in a way.

 ‘He’s the emotional hub of wise quotes isn’t he,’ I whispered before dropping my arm onto the ground.

 ‘Yeah, you know, we may not listen to him from time to time,’ I turned my gaze to him my brow raised, more like not at all. ‘At all really,’ he changed his wording with an amused smile. ‘But we all respect and love him, he’s really a great guy. He’s a role model, top of the class, in student council, empathetic, wise, helpful…….He’s really cool,’ he trailed off as a faraway look glazed his eyes.

 ‘I’m glad,’ I smiled before looking up at the sky again. ‘I’m glad you feel that way, you should tell him.’

 ‘I will, just not right now. Tonights too perfect to pull out my phone.’ He agreed before he chuckled. ‘You know, Tao told me not to do this, he thought you would hate it.’

 ‘Really,’ I snorted in disbelief as I captured the moon’s image in my eyes again. ‘He knows better than anyone that I love this kind of thing.’

 ‘Yeah, I think he’s upset that I’ll take his darling little sister away,’ I hummed in agreement, Tao’s always been that way. I really wasn’t surprised he would try to mislead Chanyeol.

 ‘How long are we out here for?’ I questioned as I yawned.

 ‘Not much longer, do you want to head back now?’ I jolted and to my side to look at him with a frown.

 ‘No I don’t want to head back now, the eclipse hasn’t even ended.’ I huffed as I dropped on to my back again.

 ‘I’m just joking, we want to head out before we both fall asleep though,’ he yawned his last words out as he spoke.

 ‘Do you want to leave?’

 ‘No.’ he chuckled softly as I let out a soft sigh of contentment.

 ‘Good,’ I murmured as I felt my eyes drift shut. I hummed as I shuffled in the grass trying to get comfortable. ‘When’s the eclipse over?’

 ‘Not for a long while,’ he answered softly, I almost couldn’t make out what he said. I couldn’t blame how quiet he was speaking, I could only blame the sleep that dimmed my senses.

 ‘It’s becoming a habit falling asleep with each other isn’t, it?’

 ‘I hope so.’ I smiled at his answer, my lips as I stared up into the crimson face of the moon.
