Description

Prologue:

"This doesn't seem like an ordinary case of heterochromia." The man pulls off his glasses and drops it onto his desk, his fingers brushing his temple and giving it a slow congenial rub. He shuts the old file, and slides it across the table.

"There were cases of immensely strange heterochromia I attended to in the past decades, but this is just atypically unusual."

"Have you checked the report on his iris?"

"Yes I have, but the pigmented cells can't be classified under genetic mutation."

The two professors look over the baby cot. The color of the kid's pupils are violently changing, turning a light shade of emerald as he stares up at the two men. The baby suddenly giggles, his puny hands clenched in small fists. Fuchsia pink spreads across his dilated pupils, coating away the previous emerald. It then switches to a shade of indigo, and when he laughs again, it is replaced with effulgent lilac.

"Doctor?" A gentle knock on the door and a nurse pokes her head into the room. She steps in, her uniform so evenly pressed and bleached, her heels clicking against the washed floors. Neat.

The older man nods and his lips stretch into a polite smile, reaching out to receive the file and sends the nurse back out.

"What does it say?"

He opens the brown envelope, and pulls out the official document of the kid's iris report.

"We've done a second test on the cells found in the pigment from his iris. But it's confirmed that he isn't lacking from melanin and neither can it be classified under genetic chimerism or mosaicism. It's too serious to be classified under that category. He doesn't even suffer from hyperplasia on either eye." The professor shakes his head, and reads further down the report.

"I haven't seen any case like this. The speed at which the color of his pupils are changing, it's exceptionally strange. The distribution of melanin in his iris is distinctly deviated from the normal human iris."

"Wait, watch this." He stands up from his leather chair and runs a hand down his hair which was a mess of grey. Both men walk towards the cot again. The boy has sienna-stained eyes at the moment, and he stares up at the two strangers hovering above his cot. He is so inhumanly charming for a kid -wide eyes, dead black hair, and cheeks with a natural flush. The professor lifts a hand and places it on the boy's stomach. And he gives it a light , more like a soft ruffle. The boy laughs close to hysteria, his bubbly voice breaking out in a boisterous fit. He giggles and rolls around in a cot and instantly in a blink, his sombre lashes lap over his closed eyes. When he reopens them again, his eyes are a coalesce of azure and sapphire blue for his corneas and peach pink for the pupils. A sudden clatter of surgical instruments from outside the lab alarms the kid and he stops laughing instantly. His face contorting and gradually turning awfully sour before erupting in tears. His corneas turn striking scarlet almost simultaneously.

"Goodness. The color of his pupils are actually switching alongside with his emotions."
