So, I've received a lot of comments where people didn't really understand what happened in the story. So I decided to post this explanation! This story was also my first attempt at modernism, so it was meant to lack in connections and explanations and it does require a couple of read throughs to really understand what happened. So! Let's get started.

the story starts out with suho crying and being angry with himself in front of a mirror. He is crying because Yifan has just died (the story doesn't take place in present day). For whatever reason he considers himself not good enough; I will leave the answer to his beliefs up to the readers.

Then he goes to a therapy session where he says that his sister has come back as a spirit to see him. It is implied that while Junmyeon was dating yifan, his sister wasn't there. After his sister died in an accident many years ago, she came back to watch over him and keep him from harm. Then yifan came in this life and his sister thought he was in safe hands and left. But then yifan left junmyeon, so his sister returned to watch over him again. 

Eventually, one day yifan returns to junmyeon, and his sister vanishes again as yifan has returned to care for her beother. Yifan lies and tells Junmyeon that he can't see his sister, in an attempt to get Junmyeon to let go of her presence.

at Junmyeon's next therapy session, he tells the therapist that he has finally let go of his noona because yifan has returned to him. He then asks the therapist if she can see yifan, whose ghost is standing by his shoulder. The therapist looks at him pityingly and lies when in reality, there is only empty air next to Junmyeon's chair.

Junmyeon leaves and  visits yifan's and his noona's graves and leaves a bouquet at yifan's headstone.

the deal with yifan is kind of confusing. Basically he was a real person, but then he also died in an accident. His spirit was unable to find Junmyeon and watch over him until six months after his death. Junmyeon is delusional and has trouble dealing with reality and simply references yifan's death as their 'break up' because he can't deal with the fact that yifan has left him alone. Eventually, yifan's spirit comes to Junmyeon and takes his sister's place to watch over Junmyeon as he stays in the world of the living. 

Now, whether Junmyeon was truly protected by spirits, or if Junmyeon was simply imagining them, is entirely up to you.

so! Hopefully this explanation cleared things up. The fabulous thing about modernism is that it fuels questions and is full if mystery and is meant to leave a lot of things up to the readers interpretation which many of you did, and I really appreciated and loved those messages and tweets with ideas in them.
