The sound of my camera shutter sounds as I caught a glimpse of the London Bridge through the fog. Smiling in content as I looked at my results in the camera screen. 

 

"Jae."

 

"Yes?" 

 

"Look, look at the photo I took."  

 

"Oh, it's really good! My little gem is going to be better than me one day." 

 

I sighed as I snapped back to reality and began to walk beside the Thames River, watching happy couples enjoy their day. I looked at them in envy as I passed and blinked away sudden tears that would emerge in my eyes. 

 

The past is gone now, don't even think about it. It's over. 

 

I was too busy scolding myself mentally that I had bumped into someone and had dropped my lens cap onto the ground. 

 

"Oh sorry." I said in English to the man as I watched him pick up the lens cap from the ground. 

 

"I'm so sorry, miss." he said as he began to stand up. He had a heavy Korean accent and our eyes both met. I had extended my hand to reach for the lens cap in his hand. 

 

"Oh.." Time seemed to suddenly freeze. I let my hand fall to my side as I stared at him. 

 

"J-Jae." I couldn't believe my eyes. Standing in front of me was him. 

 

"Yoojin. What are you doing here, in London?" he seemed almost in disbelief. I stared at him, seeing the camera around his neck and then looking at mine. Our couple cameras.

 

He still has his. I thought. 

 

"I thought you were in Paris." 

 

"I was in Paris, then I came here, to, you know, take photographs." I replied. There was a silence between us. I looked away, I couldn't look at him, but it was clear that he was looking at me intently. 

 

"Yoojin." he breathed before he cupped my face into his two hands and held my face close to his. 

 

"Jae, Youngjae." I could feel the tears begin to build up in my eyes. 

 

"I've missed you, I've missed you so much. After we had ended it, everything suddenly came crashing down." 

 

"Jae, can I talk to you for a moment?" I asked over the phone. There was a brief silence on the other end before he replied. 

 

"Yeah, sure, what's up?" I swallowed the sobs that were building up in my throat. 

 

"I've been accepted into an arts collage." 

 

"Oh really? Great! Which one?" Youngjae exclaimed into the phone. 

 

"Paris Collage of Art." I said. 

 

"Where?" Youngjae's happy tone of voice dropped. 

 

"Paris. I'm going to Paris for three years." I managed to choke out. 

 

"Paris? Why Paris?" Youngjae blurted out. 

 

"I've always wanted to go, you know that." 

 

"But why collage? Can't you stay here? What will happen to us?" 

 

"I don't know, but, this is goodbye." I sobbed. 

 

"Wait! What do you mean? When do you leave? When will–" that's when I hung up. I never spoke to him again after that. 

 

"Yoojin." Youngjae called. I looked up at him, his eyes sparkled brightly, glad to see me again. 

 

"You haven't changed one bit, since the last time I saw you.". 

 

"Neither have you." I replied in a quiet tone. To be honest, I didn't feel really comfortable at that moment. It felt awkward to me, I had ended this relationship two and a half years ago and now we meet coincidentally, in London even, and now we're so close to each other that we could be kissing. In public too! 

 

"Jae, we're a bit too close together, aren't we?" I said. 

 

"What do you mean we're too close together?" Youngjae said and paused. He looked around at the people staring at us and immediately let his warm hands off of my cheeks and into his jacket pockets. 

 

"Do you want to go to a café? We can chat there." I nodded in agreement. 

 

"I know a good place." I said. Youngjae nodded. 

 

"Lead the way."
