Footsteps echoed off the smooth, paved roads. Two figures ran within the dark and wet alleyways of the grand city. They ran for what seemed like forever, until they had finally reached a dead end. One of the figures, a girl, desperately pushed and banged on the stone wall, as if she was hoping to find a door that would push open to reveal her escape. Finally, she gave up, and turned to face her male pursuer. For a moment, it was completely quiet, only the sound of their harsh breathing and the dripping sound of water was heard. The male unsheathed his sword and approached the girl.

"Do it." The girl hissed. "Kill me now."

The male stopped. The air around the two turned cold. He was hesitating.

"Well? What are you waiting for? Too scared? You work for the king; you're a soldier. It shouldn't be a foreign concept to kill a Gifted." The girl taunted.

The male's grip on his sword tightened. He raised it, the moonlight reflecting it's pale light off from the blade. The girl stared the male dead in the eyes, her deep brown eyes taunted him, but there were hints of fear as well. Then, the male suddenly lowered his sword.

"Leave." He said.

The girl stared at him with disbelief.

"Leave now! If you don't leave now, I'll really kill you!"

Without a second thought, the girl sprinted down the alleyway, but she turned back to look at the male, who now sat on his knees. His sword lay on the ground beside him, and he held a pendant between his thumb and index finger; anger and sadness had etched itself onto his face.
