Chapter 2

Will You?

''He's back'' GaEul blurted out the moment her landed on the chair.

''Who?” a young man with short brown hair mumbled. He was practically too busy munching on the warm white bun bought by GaEul to care about anything else.

''Sweden prince'' GaEul placed her chin on the back of her hand. Her lips curved down to form a slight frown.

Contrasting from the response GaEul has expected, the lad who has milky white skin choked on the bun he was literally engulfing, causing him to cough vehemently like a dying asthma patient.

''MinSeok ah. Are you okay?'' GaEul quickly stood up and ran towards his table which was located just opposite of hers. She literally tried to save his life by patting his back and thankfully it worked.

''What did I say about gluttony?'' GaEul said sarcastically while pulling out a chair from the neighboring table before she positioned herself next to him.

''So, back to the main topic. He's back. So Yi Jeong has arrived'' She had her whole body facing him, like a depressed patient trying to seek advice from a psychologist.

''Oh.'' MinSeok mumbled. He lowered his gaze and his hands fiddled actively with the exercise books piled on his desk.

''What? That's all? Oh?'' GaEul frowned. ''And you call yourself a bestfriend?'' She was trashed in huge disappointment. “God! Could you please send JanDi here? I'm in a big dilemma and this lousy guy is choosing the home works over his own best friend'' GaEul crossed her arms across her chest. She shot a poignant stare at MinSeok who was opening one of the exercise books.

''You know I'm not good with these things'' He uncapped his red pen before starting to mark the mathematic questions one by one.

''But still!!!.'' she snapped. “Can't you at least pretend to be interested? Like how I always did when you were telling your football stories” she rolled her eyes.

“What a meanie” GaEul uttered.

''Alright. Alright'' he gradually conceded. ''Did you meet him?'' He finally asked an appropriate question.

GaEul initially refused to answer and glared at her 4 years best friend like he had just committed an unforgivable crime. But she eventually replied with a nod, not being able to keep her concern any longer.

''Just now, during lunch break'' she said.

''And then?'' he shifted his gaze back towards the pile of books waiting to be evaluated on his desk.

''That was the thing troubling me'' she sighed. ''Nothing really happened. We met. That was basically everything''

'' And? That's all? I was expecting for a romantic melancholic story'' He mocked.

''Ish. This human with no sense'' she hissed, reaching her hands to choke him on his neck slightly.

''I was expecting a romantic melo too'' she said as she finally calmed down. ''But then it was too far from what I had imagined it to be''

''Life is not a fairytale'' MinSeok interjected playfully, which earned him a punch on his arm.

''Well, except for the fact that I was the first person he came to'' she smiled slightly. ''Everything was just, ambiguous'' she explained. ''I was in horror wondering if he met me to start it or to end it'' she sighed again.

''So he really didn't say anything?'' MinSeok suddenly sound interested.

GaEul nodded slightly. “As I said, it was so awkward and unclear it felt like the whole four years of waiting had gone in vain. Like nothing unusual happened'' she pouted. ''And the thing I'm most afraid of, is the major possibilities that he will say no, just like what he had said four years ago'' she hushed a sigh again.

''Eiiiiii'' MinSeok defied. '' He won't.'' he smiled broadly, revealing a line of shining white teeth. ''Cheer up. It would work out somehow'' he patted her back.

''What about dinner at my place tonight? That would definitely cheer you up'' he widened his smile, trying to chase away the gloomy cloud from GaEul's face. ''What about pasta Olio and fresh brew Americano?'' he suggested.

''Cappuccino'' she interjected, her lips finally curved to form a smile.

****

GaEul stood nervously infront of a huge decorated door of WooSung function hall. Her fist gripped tightly on her pink satin dress.

''Let's go'' an arm suddenly slithered over hers, pulling her into the crowded hall without her consent.

''JanDi'' she literally anchored a break, causing both of them to stop moving. GaEul stared at her best friend. ''I can't'' she tried to shove JanDi's arm away.

''Why?'' JanDi looked at her.

''I'm….” she stuttered.  JanDi didn't wait for GaEul to finish her sentence. She pulled her directly towards a round table located near the stage where sat three handsome looking men and a charming lady. One of them was the forever-curly-haired Gu Jun Pyo who was constantly glancing at his wrist watch, as if the whole world would run away from him if the event didn't start anytime soon. Next to JunPyo sat a sleepy Yoon Ji Hoo, with his old fringed brown hair, looking like he was going to collapse to a deep slumber anytime.

Alice, a doctor from Canada, who is also JiHoo's fiance was looking through her smart phone at her seat besides JiHoo. WooBin was the only one looking and smiling at them like he had nothing else to do.

''Goddesses have arrived'' WooBin praised.

''When will the event start? Vancouver is waiting for me'' JunPyo whined.

''And you, don't you have anything else to wear?'' he yelled at JanDi. He scanned through his fiancé from head to toe before rolling his eyes in displease. ''Are you trying to poke people's eyes with that dress? It's too short'' he elaborated his complaint.

JanDi ignored her fiancé, instead she helped GaEul with her full length pink dress to settle herself on her designated seat.

GaEul bowed slightly to everyone around the table before she slowly sank into her deep thought again. She just didn't know how to get rid of her ridiculous nervousness. The last time she attended this kind of event was four years ago where JunPyo's mother randomly announced his engagement with JaeKyung during his birthday party. She couldn't even bring herself to imagine how she would handle the situation if the exact same thing arose, only this time the main character would definitely be YiJeong.

She would’ve fallen deeper into a world of unnecessary thoughts if not for JanDi who shrugged her elbow to denote the appearance of YiJeong. GaEul's mouth parted open the moment her eyes caught the view of YiJeong walking gracefully towards the centre table which was weighted down with a four levels frost cake and bunch of other delicious looking food. He was wearing a shimmering grey suit with his usual lady-killer smile plastered on his face, which once again reminded GaEul about how much she missed seeing him in his upper class attire. Her eyes trailed him as he sat down between his father and his older brother while his mother was nowhere to be seen.

She couldn't remove her gaze from him. Even when he had finished his textbook speech about how happy he was for being back, and that he will try his hardest to protect the existence of WooSung group, GaEul's eyes were still fixed on him. Her heart was beating apace as she wondered what in the world would happen next.

Thankfully nothing unusual arose yet, which brought GaEul into a better mood. She was able to gossip about the person wearing weird fluffy jacket with JanDi and Alice, scowl at JunPyo for being such a whine baby, and eat her usual enormous amount of food like there is no tomorrow. She piled barbequed lamb and beef on her white plate, and filled another plate with apple pies and slices of blueberry cheese cakes.

''You're still quite a big eater'' a voice startled GaEul. She nearly dropped the plate she was holding when she realized that the voice was YiJeongs.

She plastered a smile while she silently cursed herself for not being able to control her lust for food, especially in front of YiJeong.

''So. . . Thank you for coming. To a silly event like this'' he smiled.

GaEul felt like her heart was shot by an arrow. Maybe it was because of the sunglass he wore yesterday, she hardly made any eye contact with him. But now that he was looking straight into her eyes, she couldn't help but panic.

''We need to talk'' YiJeong didn't wait for GaEul to reply.

''Hm?'' GaEul squeaked slightly, surprised by his sudden request.

''Outside?'' his eyes signed towards the door of the function hall.

GaEul nodded awkwardly, trying to grab on her flying senses.

GaEul was walking a step behind YiJeong towards the main door when an old man with black suit suddenly appeared out of nowhere and distracted YiJeong with a story of board of directors and newfound artifacts. He insisted on YiJeong to meet the new member of the board, and when GaEul approved with a slight nod, YiJeong finally agreed to follow the man.

''Wait for me'' he said with an almost whisper before he disappeared among the high class crowd.

GaEul sighed a little, feeling half relieved and half curious. Relieved that her paranoid assumption of YiJeong would be telling her that he would be married to a woman of his family's choice came to a halt, and curious that maybe he have something else to be told. So she waited, and almost half an hour was spent waiting for him, until JunPyo said ''Let's go'' to her.

GaEul looked at him, confused.

''What are you waiting for? I need to rush to Vancouver'' he nagged.

''But'' GaEul tried to object but immediately stopped as she remembered that she was able to be here courtesy to JunPyo's long limousine.

''But she hasn't got the chance to talk to YiJeong-subae yet!!'' JanDi yelled in GaEul's defense.

''Hey. Don't you know there is a day called tomorrow?'' he poked JanDi's forehead. ''She'll be seeing him every day after this, so don't overreact, you empty brain'' he scowled at her.

GaEul then followed the couple after she bid farewell to the other F2 and Alice. Her eyes were locked on her phone, waiting if YiJeong would reply her message. She didn't know why she could be feeling so miserable over such petty thing.

Idiot, GaEul thought. For the the first time in her life, she came to agree with what JunPyo said, - that there will still be tomorrow.

GaEul increased the speed of her step but was stopped by a binding force on her wrist. She turned around to see YiJeong grabbing her wrist. He still panted heavily which GaEul guessed was the effect of speedy running.

''Sunbae'' the honorific escaped her lips.

''GaEul-yang'' he called, still panting.

''JunPyo. I'll drive her home'' he said to his friend, literally chasing him away from the scene.

GaEul let out a long nervous sigh. ''Maybe we should talk about it next time”. GaEul tried to run away from her fear.

''No'' he replied sternly. ''If I didn't say it today, I'm afraid that I won't be able to let it out anymore''

''So, let me guess, it is a bad news?'' she couldn't help but stuttered.

''It depends. On how you would actually accept it'' he said, causing GaEul's fear to reach its peak level.

GaEul hushed another sigh. ''Then say it, I'm ready'' she mumbled, expecting the worst.

'' GaEul-yang'' he hesistated.

''Would you date me?''
