"Go inside, Dara." Myungsoo instructed.
"No, I won't!" Dara refused, but her voice shook.
"I'll go and let you two talk." I muttered, moving to go around him. But he didn't move out of my way. "Excuse me?" I asked, gesturing for him to budge over.
His eyes narrowed further.
"Stop it!" Dara hissed at him, pulling me back and behind her.
I stared at the back of her head in surprise. Her stance was like she was preparing for a fight and it crossed my mind that I had no idea who Myungsoo was at all. How did I know what he was capable of?
"Dara." He warned, his voice so low it sounded gravelly.
The sound sent shivers down my spine and I could see Dara's whole body stiffen.
"No, stop it Oppa!" She practically begged, her voice breaking. "Hana is my only friend, why can't you just let me happy this once?"
"You know why!"
I was obviously not privy to some kind of important information, and once again I felt uneasy, like I shouldn't be there. The tension in the air was thick, smothering, like the heat of my hometown in the summer; stifling and uncomfortable.
"Look, obviously-" I began.
"You be quiet." He snapped, and my eyebrows shot up.
"Excuse me?" I laughed, the action more from surprise than anything else. "Who do you think you are? All we did was-"
"Inside now, Dara... I'll talk to you after." They stared one another down for a moment until her body drooped in defeat.
She stepped towards him and he let her past, before blocking the doorway again. From behind him I could see the pleading look she gave me, so I gave her a reassuring smile in return, letting her know it was ok. I could handle myself. But she didn't return it, instead heading off towards her apartment almost reluctantly. Once she was out of eyesight I turned towards Myungsoo and gave him my best glare.
"All we did was go to coffee, that's hardly so bad to warrant this reaction from you. I don't know what your problem is with me but I haven't done anything wrong to you or anyone else."
"It's what you will do." He told me ominously.
"I'm hardly a mass murderer. What's your problem with me exactly?"
"You're not good for Dara. You'll only hurt her."
"Oh, I get it now." I nodded knowingly. "You've got a sister complex. Look, you idiot. I'm not gonna hurt her. I'm just trying to be her friend, something which, by the looks of it, she needs no thanks to you."
"You're playing a dangerous game, Little Girl." He warned. "Being friends with Dara... It isn't good for you."
"Then I'll be the judge of that, won't I? Friends argue, things happen, but I'd never intentionally hurt her. I'm not that type of person which you'd know if you got down from your high horse and actually got to know me."
He stared at me for a moment before he spoke, his tone rough, but not as harsh. I felt a swell of victory.
"I'll be watching you, Little Girl." He warned. "If there's even one hint that you're a danger to Dara, I will take care of this."
I had no idea what 'take care of" meant, but from his deathly serious expression I knew it couldn't be anything I'd particularly wish for. I felt frozen to the spot under his intense gaze. Still, I managed to nod.
"That's fine. But honestly, you have nothing to worry about. I told you; I'm not dangerous."
His eyes raked over my face and something in my expression caused his to relax and his intimidating aura to lessen somewhat. Then suddenly he smiled and it literally took my breath away. It lit up his whole face revealing straight even white teeth. He stepped forward and ruffled my hair whilst I stood still, hardly daring to breathe at his close proximity. Once again his scent enveloped me. My heart hammered in my chest like a jackhammer and once again words escaped me. My emotions were erratic, my breathing accelerating.
"Don't look at me like that." He told me, tone light. I'd never heard him speak like that. "I'll catch you later, Little Girl."
As he turned and left, I stared after him, speechl
