When he awoke, cold sweat had formed a little puddle just above his upper lip.

He was sweating. Profusely.

His mind and his body were like magnets, two poles trying to detach themselves from each other.  His thoughts could not pass the hot, pulsating iron in his head, while his body was shaking at intervals with a cold, endless fever.

A single image was locked into his head, and he clung desperately to it. All of his other thoughts were blurry lines, undefined memories lost in a world he was not familiar with. He knew he only had a few minutes before he'd pass out again, maybe even just a few seconds. Time had become an illusion to him. He gathered all of his willpower to move his numb limbs and he sat up, slowly, his heart racing in his chest. 

But it was too late, his energy reserves were already used up. His back hit the tiled floor with an unhuman, bone-crushing sound and as it flashed in front of his eyelids, he clung to the only thing he knew: He loved her.

 

 

Cold. It was cold, so terribly cold. He hadn’t even opened his eyes, but he didn’t need to see anything to feel the cold moistness seeping through his clothes, soaking them until he could feel them sticking to his skin. His arms were covered with goose bumps under his wet clothes and his body kept shuddering every few seconds as it tried to keep its temperature up. As he slowly opened his eyes, the cool, fresh air pierced into them. Startled by the unexpected pain, he quickly closed his eyes again and automatically brought his hands up to rub the palms against his closed eyelids. His hands were wet and when he carefully opened his eyes again after a short moment, he inspected them closely, only to notice that the skin was wrinkly. How long had he been lying here? He knew he wouldn’t find the answer to his question. Getting curious as to where he was, he gathered all of his strength to lift himself up on his elbows. He was surprisingly weak and he knew it wouldn’t take too long for him to break down onto the ground again. His eyes wandered around as he scanned his surrounding. In a heartbeat he noticed that he was lying on a lake, a lake
