Ch. 2- Light

Love Lost in Time

When the next day came for Sungyeol, he woke up with the sun beaming straight at his face. He pulled his blanket over his head, not wanting to wake up anytime soon. However, he knew he couldn't stay here on the bed forever. Once he stretched his body from under the blanket, he pushed away the blanket, and forced himself to get up.

Sungyeol turned around and stared outside the window. Then he slowly approached it with his hand reaching out to the glass. The second the tip of his fingers touched the window, he smiled at how warm it actually is. He looked up, his face basking in at the sun's rays. Now, he was finally awake!

First, he started with washing his face and brushing his teeth. After that, he picked out a black button up shirt and black pants. Then he quickly put those on before he headed to the kitchen to have breakfast. While he made eggs and toast, he couldn't help but think of what happened yesterday. That was the first time he has ever seen Sungjong with that mysterious guy before.

However, the moment their eyes locked with each other, there was a unknown feeling that didn't feel so...unknown. Sungyeol felt confused because he never met that Myungsoo guy before. On the other hand, there was something intriguing about him as well and it seemed like Sunggyu knew him as well.

After cooking his breakfast, he sat down at his small, circular table and ate. As usual, it was like this everyday in his life. Nothing exciting ever happens and he is fine with that. Seeing Sunggyu everyday was good enough for him. Even though he doesn't have much connections with other people; this is what he wants right now. At least for now...

Once he finished eating breakfast, he headed back to the bathroom, and brushed his teeth again. Then he checked to make sure everything was in place before he grabbed his key and put on his jacket. He looked around once more before heading out and locking the door. On his usual route to work, he met up with Jinae again.

They talked to each other for a few minutes and Jinae was really excited because she was going to play with her friends all day. When Jinae and her mom had to leave, Sungyeol went back on his usual route to work. When he looked up at the sky, he blew out air and it was quite visible. Another sign that autumn was getting colder and colder.

Then Sungyeol realized that he was going to be late for work so he ran over to the café as fast as possible. It seemed like time doesn't like him at all because he is late by a minute. By one minute! However, when he opened the door, he doesn't see Sunggyu anywhere. Sungyeol took this one in a lifetime chance and ran inside. He headed to the back to put on his apron and name tag.

Sungyeol checked himself out in the mirror once more before heading out to the front. The moment he stepped out, he saw Sunggyu standing there with his arms crossed. Great. Oh wait... NOT great. A sigh escaped from his lips as he did a bow to the older.

"Good morning, Sunggyu-hyung." He looked back up at the other and saw no expression come across his face.

After a few minutes, Sunggyu finally spoke. "Good morning to you as well, Sungyeol-ah. Now, go restock the shelves and make sure that all of the beans and machines are ready to go." The older patted Sungyeol's shoulder with a gentle smile before heading to the back to finish up some things that needed to be done.

Sungyeol lets out a real sigh before he nodded his head. At least he was let off this time. Once he made sure Sunggyu wasn't watching him, he started to restock all of the items and made sure everything was ready to go. Then he redone the signs as well, writing out which were the specials of the day. These parts of the morning were always his favorite since there weren't any customers right now.

Another reason was because he could have some peace and quiet before Sunggyu started to order him around. Somedays, they don't get many visitors but each other always count (something that Sunggyu says all the time). Sungyeol puts the sign back up and turned around when he heard the bell ringing. A grin spreads across his face as he faced the customer.

"Welcome to Angel's Paradise. How may I- Oh... It's you from yesterday. The guy who came with Sungjong." Sungyeol bowed to the customer and smiled softly. "What brings you here again? Did you enjoy something from our menu?"

The customer smirked at Sungyeol, sending weird vibes down the taller's spine. Weird. Sungyeol thought this guy was very weird in his own way even though he doesn't really know.

"I just wanted to properly introduce myself." He held out his hand towards Sungyeol. The older of the two tilted his head, wondering what he wanted. Then Sungyeol realized the other wanted to shake hands. He quickly grabbed the younger's hand and gave it a gentle shake. "I'm Myungsoo. Kim Myungsoo. It was nice meeting you for the first time."

Sungyeol nodded his head as he pulled away his own hand from the other. For some reason, this doesn't feel right at all. The taller put on a smile once again before looking back down at the cash register. "Sir, what would you like to order?"

Myungsoo felt a bit disappointed from the lost contact of their hands. However, he quickly pulled himself together and looked back up at the other. "I will order if you use my name instead of saying 'Sir'."

A few seconds later, a few more customers started to file in. Sungyeol noticed this quickly, his teeth seething with annoyance. He reluctantly nodded his head and lets out a sigh. "Fine. K-Kim Myungsoo, what would you like to drink or maybe eat?" Then he smiled for the other because he doesn't want the other customers to think he was being rude to someone else.

"That wasn't so hard, now was it?" Myungsoo smirked to himself as he looked up at the sign to see what he wanted to get. His eyes, though, kept wandering back to Sungyeol. For some reason, he couldn't help but be drawn to the taller. Suddenly, he noticed that he was holding up the line so he order an ice chai tea latte. He moved to the side where the orders are picked up but he watched Sungyeol take more orders from the other customers.

"Would you please stop staring at my employee? It's quite rude for you to stare at someone you don't know."

Myungsoo turned around to see Sunggyu making the drinks. The owner of the café stared right back at him before letting out a sigh. "There really is no reason for you to be here. You don't even like drinking coffee or tea. Why would you be here?"

Myungsoo shrugged his shoulders as he stared back at Sungyeol. "I... I'm not quite sure. But," he turned back to Sunggyu with eyes full of hurt, "why didn't you come back?"

Sunggyu's body froze within seconds when those words left Myungsoo's lips. The seconds ticked by between them, letting the question hang in the air. No. Sunggyu wasn't going to answer this when the answer is so obvious between them. He placed the drink on the counter with a smile that doesn't reach his eyes. "One ice chai tea latte!"

The younger of the two stared at other as he felt betrayed by the way Sunggyu didn't answer his question. Quietly, he grabbed his drink and walked towards the door. His steps came to a stop at the door as he looked over his shoulder at Sunggyu and Sungyeol. However, his eyes stayed on Sungyeol a few seconds longer than he expected.

Sungyeol noticed that Myungsoo was standing by the door so he bowed at him. Then he stood straight with a smile. "Thank you for coming to Angel's Paradise. Please do visit again." Once more, he smiled at the other, but somehow this brought a flinch of pain to his heart.

Seeing the other one about to leave made him feel like he had bad memories of leaving a long time ago. Of course, he remembered which ones when he himself left, but he doesn't remember leaving someone of his own age. Sungyeol doesn't know anymore as he turned to face the customer in front of him. However, he swore he saw a flash of light in the sky when Myungsoo left.

Maybe... Maybe he was seeing things.

Yes. That has to be it... It just has to be...

After the tables were cleaned, Sunggyu and Sungyeol flipped the sign over to close. Now, it was time to have their much deserved lunch breaks. Today they had more customers than they usually expected but that's good for business at least. Sungyeol wanted to see the older's café flourish.

Sunggyu brought over two plates of handmade sandwiches and two bowls of soup. Since the weather was getting chilly, soup sounded good to the both of them. The younger drank his cup of tea and sipped at his soup. Then he took a bite out of his sandwich. He hummed at how everything tasted so good. Sungyeol did a thumbs up at Sunggyu which made the latter laugh.

"Well, I'm glad that you enjoy my cooking. At least I can provide you food since you work so hard here." Sungyeol blushed and quickly shook his head. "T-That's not true! I'm glad to be working here for you, Sunggyu-hyung! That is good enough for me."

Sunggyu shook his head as he took a bite out of his sandwich. "Keep up the good work then." They stared at each other with smiles before silently working on their lunch. At least can eat together in silence like this. Comfortable and not awkward at all.

For the rest of the day, work went well. Not much was different since they just took orders and made the orders. At the end of the day, Sungyeol stretched out his legs and arms while Sunggyu rubbed his eyes. When the younger was watching the older, he couldn't help but think he looked like a hamster doing that. It's not the first time he thought of it but he knew better than to voice out his thoughts.

After drying and putting away the dishes, Sunggyu gave Sungyeol his paycheck, and they waved goodbye to each other. Tomorrow, they will see each other again. Once Sungyeol was out of sight, Sunggyu is about to turn around until he heard a voice. The owner froze but he made sure to not turn around too quickly. Sunggyu took a few deep breaths before turning around to the person behind him.

"Yes? Is there something you need?" Then he pointed to the sign that says 'Closed'. "I'm sorry but could you come tomorrow when we are opened? I will be able to serve you then. Until next time..." The owner bowed to the person before turning back to the front. Right when he was about to close the door, he felt a hand wrap around his wrist.

"Are you seriously going to ignore me, Sunggyu-hyung?! I came all this way to visit you for once!" Sunggyu pulled away his hand harshly from the other. The other was surprised by Sunggyu but he never lost his standing. "Don't ignore me, Sunggyu-hyung. I-I'm home... Woohyun is finally back home."

The older turned around to finally face the other. His eyes widen to see that it really was true. Woohyun was really back from the States. This doesn't change anything, though. Sunggyu looked away, not wanting to see the other just yet. "Please, just leave. We have nothing to talk about. You made that quite obvious on that day."

Woohyun looked down at the ground for a few seconds before looking back up at the other. Then he took a few steps closer to the point where Sunggyu felt Woohyun's breath on him. "Sunggyu-hyung, I... I absolutely regret saying all of those things in the past! I never meant any of them... You have to understand me."

Sunggyu held his stand, not wanting to give up anytime soon. No. He wasn't going to give in no matter what happened. The older took a deep breath before plastering a smile on his face. Then he turned around to face Woohyun and gently pushed him away. "Please, come back tomorrow when we are open, Sir. Thank you for coming by, though." Once again, he looked away from Woohyun and walked back inside.

He locked the door and gathered his things. Then he made sure the place was locked up before calling a cab to go home. Sunggyu looked out the window to see how fast night was coming upon them. At least he felt a bit more calmer whenever night comes. When he got home, Sunggyu walked towards the window. There was nobody outside which meant that Woohyun didn't follow him...

Sunggyu pushed himself away from the window because he didn't want any hope to swell up inside him. He walked into his room that was simple just like him. It had black and white bed sheets and the window curtains were white. He had a desk that was on the other side of the room, a closet, and two drawers. Nothing much but he liked it that way.

Then he went to the kitchen to cook up dinner for himself. His eyes drifted around the place, realizing at how alone he is right now. The owner's grip tightened around the knife as he looked back down at the counter. No. This was the life he wanted for himself. This was his decision since he left as well. He couldn't stand being in the same room anymore...

After he made dinner for himself, he sat down at the table made for two, and ate by himself as usual Sunggyu looked towards the window and saw how bright the moon out was tonight. The familiar glow of the moon made Sunggyu smile. Even though the moon was always there every night, for some reason, Sunggyu felt like something was missing as well.

Suddenly, he saw a flash of a tree in the distance. His eyes widen and his heartbeat accelerated. Then he felt like he couldn't breath so he quickly got up and looked around for his inhaler. Asthma... He was having an asthma attack.

His hands searched through all of the drawers and his eyes widen even more in panic. He hasn't had an asthma attack for a while so he doesn't really remember where he placed his inhaler. When Sunggyu heard something drop, he turned around to see his inhaler on the floor. The owner doesn't think much of it as he leaned down to grab it.

Then he used his inhaler, letting the medication work through his lungs. Once he felt like he could breath, he sat down on his couch, his hand trembling with fear. The last time he had an asthma attack was when he began to have dreams of Woohyun. Sunggyu shook his head from the thought.

No. It wasn't possible that he started to have an asthma attack because of Woohyun. Sunggyu's hand began to tremble from the thought so he quickly busied himself with his food. Despite the lost appetite, he forced himself to eat.

When Sungyeol finally got home, he flopped onto his bed, and let out a deep sigh. It really has been a long day for him. He got up and changed into a t-shirt and sweatpants for the rest of the night. Then he made himself some ramen since he was too lazy to actually cook himself anything that was much better than ramen.

He passed by a picture on his way to sit down at the table. It was a picture of his family. They all had smiles adorning on their faces, their arms around each others' shoulders. His heart was in pain the longer he stared at it.

Sungyeol forced himself to look away and sat down at the table. Maybe it was time to throw that picture away; it only left the bad memories anyway. He stared to eat his dinner, trying to enjoy it to the fullest. Then he stood back up to grab a glass of water and sat back down.

His eyes were drawn to the window, seeing all of the lights that were out there. Each star drew him in as if they had to the power to hypnotize him. Sungyeol has always been drawn to lights no matter where he is. That was why he loves the sun so much. Even though the moon is beautiful in its own way, he still loves the sun much more. For some reason, the light gave him reassurance and it felt like somebody was there for him.

For once, he felt like somebody really cared for him.

After finishing his dinner, Sungyeol washed the dishes and washed himself up. Once he was done with that, he headed to his room, and laid down. He to his side so he was facing the window. As usual, he was drawn into the lights shining through the night.

Now, the dark wasn't as scary as it used to be when he was little. Sungyeol stared with bright eyes as he pulled the blanket over him. Despite not wanting to go to sleep yet, he fell asleep in a flash. Soon, he began to dream of a little pond that had fish swimming around in it. The moon was reflecting right off of it and once again he was drawn in how beautiful it is. However, there was someone brighter than it; brighter than the sun even.

Sungyeol reached forward to the figure of light until he was embraced by it. Words of longing tumbled out of his lips as he slept peacefully through the night.
