The castle was still in a state of disarray; Sungjong sighed heavily, leaning all the way back into his chair, ruffling the back of his head. He could hear the distant cursing of his father as he chewed his minions out. He was shut into his room, a mess of paperwork and files strewn about. He hadn’t had the intention of finishing off his brother’s work; his father had made it clear it was to be left alone for Sungyeol to finish upon returning but it didn’t look like the elder was going to be coming back anytime soon and with Howon gone, Sungjong had no distractions but a desire for one. Since his boyfriend wasn’t around he had nothing on his plate but work, work and more work. When his brother did finally return Sungjong would be sure to lock Howon up into his room for a few days before enacting revenge on the older sibling in the cruelest of ways for taking his soulmate from him for so long.

He knew it was like his brother to act impulsively on his feelings, selfishly not thinking of those around him but this time he was toeing the line of going too far, dangerously. He sighed heavily, palms pressing onto his eyes, he was tired, very tired. He couldn’t blame his brother really- while the other family members got to go out and have fun, go into the human world for small periods at a time and were allowed to visit other kingdoms when they wished even if it wasn’t for business- sungyeol was different. He had always had a tight leash around his neck, it was no wonder he’d grown to be so rebellious, constantly toying with how far he could push everyone’s buttons before getting a hard slap to the face. That didn’t make his antics any less frustrating though, one could feel sympathetic and also angry at the same time.

Sungjong just wondered what it would take for his older brother to finally step up to the plate and treat his job and destiny seriously. If harsh punishment from his father only made him bolder in his attempts to scandalize then what would be the trick to make him finally act like a royal?

Perhaps there was no real answer- his brother was a complicated being. A loud yawn ripped through the air and Sungjong finally gave up, it was nearing dawn and he’d have to get up for the daily family breakfast regardless of how tired he was. It was best to nap for a short bit and then pray he could continue his sleep after dinner.

Soft sounds from the birds chirping outside his window woke Myungsoo up, he mumbled, rubbing his eyes before memories of yesterday flooded in; causing him to jolt up from his bed. He was panicked, how had he ended up in his own bed? Had the events yesterday all been a feverish daydream from lack of sleep? A cold sweat dripped down his neck when he realized he wasn’t the only one in his apartment. There was a creak as the door to his room opened, the shorter man- Hoya had his hand firm on the doorknob.

“I see you’re awake.” He said, before closing the door again. Myungsoo just stared at his door, how was he supposed to react to that? He thought with a small, nervous laugh. Best to remain calm and act normal, he figured. Groggily he made his way out of bed, groaning at how his back ached from movement. He was still dressed in his clothes from yesterday, without hesitation he slipped into a pair of comfy sweatpants and opened up his door again to great his guests.

Sungyeol had his chin deep into a huge bowl of rice and curry, tiny grains of rice clinging to his cheeks.

This is a Prince? Myungsoo thought to himself, head titled far. But despite his attempt to be grumpy with his uninvited guests when he was greeted with a wide smile from Sungyeol- face still stuffed with food he couldn’t help but let his heart flutter and smile back almost as brightly.

“Theresh a bowm fer yoush too-“ Sungyeol attempted to tell Myungsoo as he ate, waving wildly at a piping hot bowl of untouched food.

“Ah- Isn’t that for Hoya?” Myungsoo asked, eyebrows furrowed at the thought of the other not having any food.

“It’s not necessary for us to eat.” The stern man said with little emotion.

“But its so much fun!” Sungyeol interjected, slumping into the couch as he patted his full stomach with a content sigh.

“Come, come-” The Prince patted the spot next to him.

“Eat! It’s already midday.”

Myungsoo sat like that, picking at his food as the other two talked amongst themselves. There was a lot of coded talk; names and words he had never heard before. Myungsoo was curious, if they were who they said they were- and with how yesterday went down plus the proof to him that they were real, as they sat by him, in his living room- he believed that they were in fact real- why would they want to be on earth anyway?

He was so deep in thought- a flaw of his he suffered from birth- he didn’t notice Sungyeol staring at him with a knowing smile, the Prince could see right through the human male.

“Have anything you’d like to ask?” The voice brought Myungsoo back to reality and he couldn’t help but smile sheepishly, at having been caught.

“Ah- No- Well-“ Myungsoo didn’t know how to broach the question. He scrunched his face, facial features turning to silly putty as he tried to think about the best way to ask what he wanted.

There was silence, the other two men waiting patiently for the other to speak before speaking themselves.

“Why are you here exactly?...” There was more silence.

Minutes ticked by and Myungsoo began to regret having spoken at all. Sungyeol took his time to speak up, he wanted to make sure he said everything that he wished to.

“Do you know what it’s like being the heir apparent to a man like my father?”

There was a sadness and melancholy in Sungyeol’s voice that hit Myungsoo like a huge block of ice. He immediately regretted speaking. He hadn’t even known the man for twenty four hours and he had already become attached to his smile; the heartbreaking looking on his face made Myungsoo feel helpless. He could tell that his bodyguard was feeling uncomfortable too, as Hoya shifted back and forth on the couch, unsure of what to do.

“Prince- Do you think it’s wise to say anything more-“ He was cut off almost instantly.

“It’s fine Hoya, you’re being too overly cautious.”

“It’s my job.”

“I know but don’t worry, I can tell he’s trustworthy.” Sungyeol turned his attention to Myungsoo and smiled again. It was more subdued than before and less vibrant but the hold it took on Myungsoo stayed the same and he felt a weird urge to see it again and again- forever.  But then Sungyeol began speaking again and his face went stoic, stern, like he was recalling a bad memory and as more words left his mouth, Myungsoo began to understand why he had such an expression set on his face.

“My father has never been a loving man. But that should go without saying as he is the god Erebus. Darkness is the only thing he holds dear to him, it’s his only friends and he takes his job very seriously. As the eldest son I was instantly given the title of Morpheus, thankfully bloodlines and titles are all a bit screwy so it’s not like I’m expected to become him- but I am expected to overtake his place as King when he decides to step down- or dies- But that’s normal for all royalty, no? It works the same for you humans too.” He waved his hand, he was beginning to ramble.

“Anyway, unlike my other siblings I never had much of a chance to go out and play. I was always locked up, studying or practicing with some private tutor. And as the Morpheus-“ Myungsoo frowned, he should’ve paid more attention in class. He had actually taken a class in Greek Mythology but everything was going over his head at the moment. Sungyeol seemed to understand, for the next sentence he spoke made things more clear.

“I’m the god of dreams.” He chuckled softly, the other was rather cute when he got confused. “I oversee all of the dreams not only of humans but also of gods and goddess.” He looked down and sighed, lips terse. “I supposed that’s why after a while, I began to feel so restless. I would see the dreams of others- and wish I could have such a thing. I’ve always done what I was told or rebelled against what was expected of me, but I never thought about it. I just acted. So to think, to want something- to have a clear idea of a dream- or a wish- has always been foreign to me.” A sharp laugh escaped from his lips and it caused Myungsoo to jump a bit, he’d been so caught up in the other’s words.

“That’s rather ironic, right? So after a while I decided to come down to Earth- because you humans have so many aspirations and dreams, I thought maybe I could find something down here and feel- feel motivation instead of just numb, mindless actions for once.”

Myungsoo nodded, hands gripping his knees. “And have you?-“ He looked up and his eyes met Sungyeol’s “Have you found that motivation?”
Sungyeol smiled, a smile even more breathtaking than the last.

“I’m beginning to.”

There was a still air about the room as the figures all gathered together. Each had their eyes on a single person. Chorong couldn’t help but smile, she liked it when all eyes were on her.

“My idiot brother is out cavorting among beings as stupid as him right now.” She brushed her hair with a single flip, off her shoulders.

“This is the perfect time to begin discussions. We need a thorough plan. I may speak badly about my brother but he’s a perceptive and observant kind of idiot. He can always tell when something is brewing in the air. I need absolute discretion. From all of you. Any blabbing- if I hear anything- I will rip each finger nail off, strip off all your flesh so painfully slow you’ll beg for mercy before I can even get to your shoulders and pluck every bit of hair out before feeding you to Cerberus for a meaty snack.” She waited, gauging their reactions carefully, any amount of cockiness and that person would be used to teach a lesson in loyalty.

Her companions weren’t the easiest to scare but each knew she meant it and each felt the cold shiver of fear run down their spine at her threat.

“Now-“ Chorong was about to begin again when the door swung open. A pink hair girl bounded into the room without care for the atmosphere around her. “Chorong!” She shouted, latching her arms around the other girl’s neck. “You said you’d hang out with me today- not coop yourself up in this dingy room.”

"Your hair is pink." Was the first thing to leave Chorong’s mouth when her eyes met Bomi’s; her companions stealthily sliding out of the other door like smoke, never even noticed by the other girl. “And you promised to take me out on a date! Come on-“ Her hands moved to tug on the elder’s wrist, getting her standing on her feet.

“d-date-?“ Gone was the girl before; in the presence of the pink haired goddess she was neither the quick witted girl with snappy comebacks nor the terrifying daughter of Erebus. She was simply a love-struck girl who choked on almost every word. Her cheeks were tinted pink just slightly, hands clammy.

“Well yeah-“ Bomi emphasized the last word, hands on her hips. “A friendship date! Now come on, I have a lot of plans for us!” And with that she gently pulled them out of the dim room and into the light.
