Part 6

Reminisce

There was a thick silence between Donghae and Henry at the drive, none of them dared to speak after Henry seemed to have drawn the line on his rights in their relationship. Damn Sungmin, Hae thought to himself as he looked at the window.

They got inside their room and parted ways as Henry went to their bedroom without word and changed clothes while Hae only stumbled on the couch and still fazed with the whole thing. “This is real dip that’s for sure, it’s the first time I’ve heard Henry talk like that” he worryingly said. Sighing at the thought he leaned back at the soft comfort of the couch and tried his best to relax.

It didn’t do much, especially when he heard the bedroom door slam. “Okay he’s really pissed” he squeezed his eyes as he heard footsteps approaching. “Let’s talk” finally hearing Henry’s voice loud and clear.

Slowly he opened his eyes and looked at the latter’s eyes, it showed complete fury but Henry seems to suspend it inside so he wouldn’t blow his temper like a mad wife. “I want everything laid down verbally while everything still stays the way they were” he firmly said.

Hae didn’t miss a beat of what he had just said. He nodded weakly “First things firsts, tell me each and every details about your past relationship. I don’t want you to leave even a single thing!” he demanded and sat at the wooden coffee table.

“I-Is… that’s fine with you?” he asked in fear, “No, frankly. This isn’t what I’d be glad to hear about but still…” a moment of hesitation “This is something that I need to know in order for me to get things straight” he finished.

Hae was having all the hesitation in speaking up to what he’ll be telling but, he is right. “F-Fine… but I can’t promise you that it’ll be of any use now” he baited, hoping he’d drop the conversation but it’ll be a miracle if Henry would do that “Like I’d buy that Lee Donghae” he bluntly said.

He sighed in defeat and told him their past, their pains, their joy and love. He had told him how close they were when they were kids, much different to what had Kyu had said earlier. He told him their curious exploits for some time in their adolescent’s period. He gave in with their foolish games at college.

He told him how they fell in love in high school; he revealed how things came to be in high school. How they took things seriously and engaged into their heart filled relation. He told him exactly how they became true lovers, how they became intimate and expressive to one another. He could sense resentment within Henry’s eyes but he knows it’s nothing. What can he do? They had it long before he even came into his life.

Henry was eating up what he had said, having every detail compressed inside his head to take it. To think of things, to think on how strong they were and on how he couldn’t surpass the passion each of them held. He wasn’t naïve into understanding that Hae hadn’t fully gotten over it. He knows precisely that he could never match to what came between them.

In Hae’s book Henry had taken things strongly. He didn’t interrupt, didn’t contradict and didn’t faze at the whole tale. For about a few minutes, Henry composed himself “So, that’s what I’m up against huh?” he spoke in a meek voice, more certainly unease with the things he had known.

“There’s nothing to go against with, you have me. You know that so don’t think that~” he was interjected “Yeah, but only a portion. Not even a quarter of how Kyuhyun held your heart. I will never match something like that even if I’d lay my life in the line… things will never weigh in like he did” a hint of regret was obvious with the tone of his voice.

He was taken aback with it, “You’ve always told me that you were never enough… (He chuckled hollowly) truth was, I never even met your standard. That I would never be able to~” Hae pulled him into a tight embrace, cutting him off with what he had to say. Involuntarily tears fell at the sides of his eyes.

Henry was shivering, not in fear, not in pain but feeling the whole care and love Hae had shown him for long. No words were needed. Slowly his cries calmed down and his tears dried off as Hae continued to keep him safe within his arms. None was said suffice to say, they both had a rough afternoon with the whole story being told. But in set aside everything, the next part of the talk would be some time tomorrow.

Henry was tired, not physically but mentally and emotionally. He led him to the bedroom, eased him a bit and spooned behind him in bed. Even if it was still early in the evening, they settled. Henry was content at that moment. “Certainly I’d be stupid to let this go” Henry thought to himself. He didn’t notice the time he had fallen asleep.

Kyuhyun in the meantime waited patiently at the place where the guy told him to, he was no longer tensed and fuming with anger after what happened at the restaurant. He hadn’t noticed that a smile had already perked out his lips as he swung slowly at the swing. “This brings back the things I had been doing with Donghae then” he whispered softly to himself.

Reminiscing but a portion of their past as kids, this was the place wherein they’ve played carefree. It was a place where troubles became only a situation, where anger extinguishes in an instant and where everything becomes at peace. “I didn’t expect that you’d live up to your word” a voice suddenly said.

He turned to face the person with a smile still plastered in his face, “I didn’t expect that you’d call me after quite a while” he retorted. The guy only smiled back at him, neglecting what he had said.

“How’re things? With the way I’ve talked to you earlier in the phone, you sound as if you were in dire ” he kid but didn’t brought out a smile or a chuckle to keep things serious in its own way.

Kyu smiled in vain, his lips didn’t spread like he’d plan to. “By the looks of it, you’re still in a lot of pain” he approached him and sat at the other seat beside him. “You should do what’s right you know things will only lead to more pain if you’d continue with this” he suggested.

Kyu lowered his head and shook it as a disapproval “It would be more painful if I’d let things lead its own way, I need to get things at the right track so things wouldn’t fall into chaos. Well, not more than it is already” he tried to laugh it out but to no avail.

The guy sighed “Man, I hate seeing you like this. You know I don’t like seeing you hurt like this. Isn’t there any resentment that you have with that heart of yours with everything that had happened?” in a way he was trying to convince him to withdraw. He didn’t want to make things go in array any longer.

Kyu gave him a glare, “I don’t need to argue with that don’t I?” he sternly said “I already have enough in my head right now so don’t add up with it” the guy only rolled his eyes. “I thought so” was the only reply.

“Yeah, well, you can’t blame me for ever trying” a soft chuckle was heard. “Don’t try again; it would only be a waste of time”.

“Well, somewhat… faithfulness only came up recently from you. I guess that didn’t showed up in the right time huh?” the guy kid but for Kyuhyun it was right. He sighed lightly before looking up at the sky; it was a clear evening up above. The moon was perfectly shaped to a crescent figure and few starts were lit up.

He couldn’t help but to smile a bit. “Yeah, I guess it didn’t bring itself up when I most needed it” he finally added. “Especially when everything ended up in a crucial state in our relationship… but still” the guy looked at him, a tad bit of intrigued with what he was about to say.

“There’s no point in mourning at the past… if I’d still cling on it, I wouldn’t be able to move forward. To make my move, to finally set things the way they’re supposed to be. I have to…” he looked the guy in the eyes without uncertainty, a real show of confident for his own words “Get him back in my life, just like what I’ve sworn to him” a childish grin brewed in his lips.

In that very moment the guy beside him couldn’t help but to smile at the contagious grin. A sight in which he had never seen in a while, with a long intake of breath the guy tore his gaze and looked away “There’s no sense, in knocking you out of your delusions ain’t it?” he didn’t sound offending but a bit serious.

“There’s no sense, in making me stop in the first place” Kyu retorted in a playful tone, “Yeah, once your mind is set into something. I can only wait, ting in my pants on what you’ll be doing” he laughed half-heartedly.

The guy stood up and Kyu looked at him; his back faced on to him. “You know that hyung is always beside you through thick and thin… you know where to find me and you know how to get in touch with me” not bother to look at the younger.

Kyu got himself up as well and walked beside him and rested his head on his shoulder. “Of course, you may be a damn workaholic kind of guy and you hardly have time… but you always, always, know when to arrive” he gladly said. “My Siwon-hyung is so dependable that sometimes I wish that my problem was your work” he kiddingly said.

“If that’d be my job then I’d resign the moment you’d hire me” he kid back.

For a moment, Kyuhyun’s grief lifted. A moment in which he’d needed. It’s been what he had wanted, a person to talk about, a person who’d hear out his frustrations and his troubles. Even though the meal he had spent felt utterly painful inside his shattered heart. Kyu felt a grit of relief, and that’s not something he could have in an instance.

“As much as I want to accompany you more with Donghae, I have to leave early tomorrow at Jeju. Sorry for being this incontinent with you” he looked at him with a hint of apology. Kyu shook his head onto that.

“Nah, you’ve done well for this visit. It really meant a lot to have you hear and hear me out with my damn problem. I wouldn’t go nuts again and drank up to dawn” he laughed faintly but it was the truth.

“By the way, I have to tell you one more thing” the conversation shifted into something serious. “Hyuk came to visit me” Kyu was taken aback for some reason. A little bit of un-eased feeling was stirring inside.

“Whoa, pull your pants up. He didn’t do or say anything that’s against the both of you” Kyu sighed in relief. “Anyways, he came to me crying” Kyu couldn’t help but to raise a brow about it.

“Crying? ‘bout what? If I hadn’t known him since we were young, I’d say this is new” Siwon ruffled the younger’s hair and faced him. “He’s crying because he’s still afraid of losing his brother” the words hit him; it was the same feeling he had when Hyuk confronted him.

“I know he came into you place to tell you the reality between him and his brother and as a matter of fact he had consulted me to tell the truth about it towards both of you. He had doubts that Hae would take in what he’ll say so he hadn’t revealed anything yet to him” he watched intently on the younger who was taking in the whole information.

“I urged him to tell you, because I know you’ve been itching to know about it. Luckily he wasn’t scared on letting you know, that’s for sure…” he wanted to break the ice a bit but Kyu was unfazed at the moment. He was serious in this kind of matter.

“You saw how tough he was when he confronted you, but you’ve yet seen him break down into a million pieces… I wouldn’t blame you to forgive him for what he had done but, it’s his greatest fear. His fear to lose his precious brother for life” Kyu couldn’t help but to shook his head with the last part.

“He’s stupid, dumb, ignorant and above all narrow! He’ll… he’ll never lose Donghae; he loves his brother more than he could’ve imagined. Hyuk was all that was running in his mind when they became distant to each other… besides, he’ll also have me as a brother to boot” he wanted to smile brightly but only a crooked one appeared.

“That’ll be a pain in the that’s for sure” Siwon brightened up “Donghae’s no pain but having you…” he eyed him “I think he’ll grow old in an instant” they both laughed. “Anyways, I know you more than anyone else does… well, exclude Donghae though, but still, you’re a good guy and you always do your best” he added.

“You’ll do fine, I know… I know my brother would do his best for Donghae. Besides…” he wrapped his arms around Kyu’s nape and hugged him tight “Even half-brothers like us would always know what to do to help out right?” Kyu returned a favour and embraced the taller one.

“Thanks for looking after me, and, I’m sorry to be this burdensome” as he spoke, tears were threatening to fall. “I love you so much that I would never think of you as a burden, you’re a load that I’ll be glad to carry. Just not literally, you know how heavy you are and how flabby you’re getting” Kyu pulled away from the embrace with watery eyes and a grimace.

“You really have to ruin the whole moment don’t cha?” but a smile couldn’t be concealed. “What can I say? I still like picking on you” with that Kyu finally remembered how wonderful it was to have your brother look after you. Even if he was only part related by their father’s blood, they still considered themselves as truly blood related.
