She has always hated the night.

The night looks especially depressing to her. How the moonlight shines through her windowpanes; how the trees look especially lonely in the dark; how the streets seem especially quiet.

All of these make her feel especially lonely.

But tonight, this particular night, the loneliness felt even worse.

Was it because he’s not that anymore?

Or was it because she finally accepted that she couldn’t get over the fact that he left?

It’s probably a little of both.

It’s been a few days since their breakup. She had smiled and let him go when he brought it up. She knew it was coming. He said he still loves her but it’s better if both of them take a break from each other.

She told herself, it’s enough.

The fact that he still loves her is enough to keep her going.

For the past few days, she had kept herself smiling and going on with life, with that thought in her mind, thinking she had taken the breakup lightly.

What a lie.

She had been lying to herself all along.

Faking a smile; being strong; telling everyone she’s fine without him by her side.

Lies lies lies. It’s all lies.

And tonight, with only the moonlight as company, the tears flowed for the first time after their breakup.

She couldn’t accept it after all.  

And she’s not going to.

She will wait silently for the day to come again.

It’s just his luck for meeting such a stubborn girl.
