The Walk Home

I Don't Like Being Alone

I skipped down the sidewalk and took in the cool, night wind. Jinyoung followed close behind me and I couldn't help but feel safer.

I slowed down so my pace matched Jinyoung's, "Jinyoung-shi, thank you for walking me home!" You looked up to him and smiled.

"It's no problem," he met my eyes and grinned

His answers were always short and to the point. He obviously didn't like to waste his breath but it never came across rude to me. In fact, I kind of liked it.

I looked down at the side walk and we proceeded in silence.

I usually hate silence. It meant that I was alone, outcasted, or ignored. I looked up to Jinyoung. I know it sounds strange, but this silence was different. I didn't feel the need to make awkward conversation. It was just completly... peaceful.

We made our way past an outside bar when a completely drunk man brushed against me. He flipped around and grabed my arm, turning me to face him, "Just because your some stupid American, you think you can do whatever you want? I bet you have no problems in life, you rich little white girl!" he spat all over my face, "But you're too stupid to even understand Korean. All you Americans are the same!" I was too suprised to respond or to even pull away, this hadn't happened in ages. My mouth had dropped open and I began to shake with fear.

The man's grip fell. I looked up only to see Jinyoung's fist make contact with the drunkard's cheek. My eyes went wide with shock but my body wouldn't let me move. Jinyoung had gotten the man down before he grabbed my hand and pulled me into a jog.

"Why didn't you pull away?! Why did you let him say those things?!" Jinyoung had lost his composure.

I shot a small sad, embarassed smile at the ground before I looked up to his eyes, "I guess I'm just a little too used to it."

Jinyoung's anger slowly faded but his grip on my hand did not.

"This used to happen a lot to my parents and now to me, I guess." I brushed my hair back into place.

Jinyoung searched my face for something. His face softened, "Are you okay?"

I refused to meet his eyes, "uhuh."

He put both of his hands on either of my cheeks and forced me to look at him, "Don't lie to me."

I was in shock, people usually just leave me alone after that. But, I could feel my eyes starting to sting this time and I looked in to his eyes. Beginning to realize my position, I pulled away due to pride. I turned my back to him and continued walking. I quickly managed the tears that were threatening to fall.

"Um, I'm seriously fine, Jinyoung-shi." I turned back to him with a smile this time, "I guess I have just become immune to it!"

Jinyoung walked next to me the rest of the way without a word. It was different than the quiet of earlier, though. It wasn't of that of discomfort toward me, but more like... like he was trying to figure something out.

We stopped in front of my house and I turned to Jinyoung, "Thank you for everything today Jinyoung-shi. I bet you weren't expecting such an eventful night when you offered to walk me home, huh?"

Jinyoung gave me a small smile, "No, I definitally wasn't," he paused for a second," If... if you ever need help Yisoo-shi, just... come to me, okay?"

I was not expecting that. He's just usually a little, well, cold.

"Oh um, arraso!" I couldn't help but feel really excited.

I walked the rest of the way to the gate in front of my house, "Thank you again! You should head home."

"Oh, well I don't live to far away, it should be fine." It was strange, though, his voice sounded kind of playful?

I cocked my head to the side and looked at him with confusion. He pointed to the house over. I followed his hand and at that exact moment I saw a group of two figures coming toward us.

"Hyung!" one yelled. " Jinyoung-hyung, your at the wrong house again! This one is ours!" the guy pointed at the hose next to mine and I couldn't help but laugh. How many times had he gone to the wrong house?

The two guys made their way over to us, "Yah!" Jinyoung yelled back, "I'm not at the wrong house Sandeul-ah!"

They stopped in front of Jinyoung, "Hyung, yes you are!" Their argument went on for a bit before the newcomers noticed me.

I gave them a small bow, "Annyeonghaseyo!" They both did a small double take before bowing back.

They rushed over to me, "Wah! Neomu yeppo!"

"Aigoo. Kamsahapnida!" I giggled and smiled.

At my response they jumpped back at the same time. The one with red hair began first, "Woah, you know Korean?" He was jumping around like a little puppy.

"Um yeah, I was actually born and raised here, so... yeah!" His energy kind of rubbed off on me and was making me just as happy as he was.

"Cool! Well I'm Sandeul!" then the other with dark brown hair wrapped his arm around Sandeul, "And I'm Baro."

Jinyoung walked up to the steps next to us, "This is Yi Soo. She's the new translator at work."

They both nodded their heads. Sandeul turned to Baro and whispers something to him causing him to chuckle.

Sandeul looked at me as if he was doing something he shouldn't, "Yisoo-shi, how old are you?"

I looked at him and tilted my head slightly, "19, why?"

Sandeul turned back to Baro and they shared a look of excitement.

Sandeul regained his composure as best he could, "So, then Yisoo-shi, you can call me Oppa if you'd like." he seemed to explode with aegyo as he covered his face and ran back to Baro.

I giggle at such a cute guy, "Oh, arraso, Oppa!" Sandeul began laughing uncontrollably and jumped up and down.

Baro looked at him competively, "Me too, Yisoo-ah! Me too!" he grabbed my hand.

I was kind of overwhelmed by his aegyo, "Okay oppa."

He let my hand go and joined Sandeul in his celebration.

Jinyoung shook his head at them, "Yisoo-shi if you let them act like that they're never going to leave you alone." He gazed at them as if he was their real brother.

I continued to stare at Jinyoung as he was looking at his dongsaengs. Suddenly a thought came to my head, "Can I call you Oppa too?"

Jinyoung was taken off gaurd, he turned his head and was startled that I had been staring at him, "Oh, um, sure... If you'd like." It may have been dark, but I could still see the light shade of red cross his face.

"Jinyoung-oppa!"

"W,w,wae?"

"Nothing, I just wanted to say it. I've never really had anyone to call Oppa before." I gave Jinyoung a bright eye smile.

Everyone went silent. My stomach, not knowing the situation, growled loudly. My eyes grew wide and my face turned a light shade of pink.

"Hehe, I guess we did spend the whole afternoon and evening at the studio." Jinyoung gave me a bright smile. I'd never seen him smile like that, I feel like we have slowly become a little closer.

Sanduel tugged on my arm, "How about you come over to our dorm and eat dinner with us, Yisoo-ah?"

Unsure, I looked over to Jinyoung and he shrugged, which I think was his way of giving me approval. I looked back to my house and then at the boys, "Sure, I think that would be fun!"

We started on our way over to their house. Baro looked over to me, "Shouldn't you tell your parents?"

I watched my feet next to everyones, "No, they... they aren't home." I left it at that and we went through the front gate of the boys' gate.
