Magnetism 4: Lee Sungmin Day 1

Magnet

Magnetism is a class of physical phenomena that includes forces exerted by magnets on other magnets.

“How many chambers it has?” Sungmin was raising a slice of grilled beef with his chopsticks, swaying it randomly before a pair of dark eyes, belonged to a boy sitting opposite him.

The boy wrinkled, antipathy was the only thing present on his face.

As if the blonde was blind to see his reaction, he swayed his chopstick livelier while grinning in glee.

Kyuhyun, the said boy, leaned back on his chair. His eyes and thick eyebrows were narrowed to the middle, showing an utterly disbelief expression for the blonde. “ Min. Seriously?”

“Certainly.” Sungmin answered confidently with his bright smile, completely ignoring the other’s cursing word. “You need to know what you eat, Kyuhyun.” The blonde shoved the beef forward, close to the rebel’s face. “So... answer me. How many chambers?” he insisted.

While still thinking the blonde was being ridiculous, Kyuhyun breathed out his growls, showing his protest. “Four. Reticulum, rumen, omasum and abomasum.” Yet, the rebel still answered, not to mention accurately and detailed.

The blonde President arched his eyebrows in surprise. It was unexpected that the older boy had answer his question more than what he asked for. “Wow... I’m impressed.” Airy smile formed on Sungmin’s astounded face.

Feeling offended, Kyuhyun let out a heavy sigh. He launched his mouth closer to the meat in Sungmin’s hand, wanting to claim his prize for answering correctly.

The rebel got more irritated when his open mouth tasted nothing but an empty air. Sungmin was pulling his hand away, distanced the meat further from the rebel.

“Function?” The blonde asked, raising his left eyebrows with teasing smile plastered on his face.

Kyuhyun glared and folded his arms. “No.”

“No function?”

“No, I don’t know.” Kyuhyun clarified coldly while shoving his head to look away. His rebellious nature in him was surfacing now.

“Of course you know.” Sungmin said, making a clueless face. “Or else, these barberque meat will go into waste since I cannot finish it all by myself.” The blonde shrugged and smiled brightly.

Innocent and introvert by nature, Lee Sungmin rarely shown his naughty side to other people. However, there was also a moment when Sungmin carried out his ‘evil’ by teasing others who he regarded close, or comfortable to be with. Others in his definition is his regular victims consist of Ryeowook, Leeteuk and (mostly) Kangin. Now, Cho Kyuhyun would be added to his list and join the club.

Out of nowhere, a loud sound of rumbling stomach filled the air. Somebody was obviously starving and it made the blonde chuckled. “See? Even your belly didn’t want this beautiful meat resided in trashing bin.” Sungmin pointed to a small electric barberque grill covered with almost well-done meats on the table.

“Since the beautiful meat is in front of me, I can grab it easily. Without your permission, or answering your question.” Didn’t want to comply with the other, Kyuhyun challenged. His dark eyes was looking straight to the other.

*thumped!*

Maybe in another place and time, Sungmin would look away from the taller’s trapping eyes, or clenched his fists tighter, or took a deep breath, anything just to make sure he could escape his nervousness from Kyuhyun’s dark stare thus he could breathe normally. This time, Sungmin’s ego was big enough to defeat everything and to stare back at the rebel, with a soft smile.

“As you wish. You don’t have any chopsticks, or other utensils to take the hot meat from the grill.” Sungmin answered while putting a slice of meat in his mouth. “If you use your bare hands to take it, I will make sure you drop it when your fingers got burned.” He mumbled while munching his food.

Kyuhyun let out a scornful chuckle before he curled his sidelips upwards. “Reticulum is mainly used as a storage area for hard things that a cow might accidentally swallow.” Keeping his eyes on the blonde, the rebel went his body forward onto the table. “Rumen is the chamber where fermentation takes place to help break down the grass that the cow has eaten.” He continued.

Sungmin swallowed slowly with the other’s slow movement into him. Feeling nervous as Kyuhyun closed their distance, he leaned back a little.

“The omasum, also known as ‘many piles’ is used to absorb all the water that has accumulated from the digestion from the rumen.” The taller man was raising his right hand to wrap the blonde’s hand, the one with the chopsticks. “The fourth chamber is the abomasum which similar in function to a human's stomach, and so is called the ‘true stomach’.” The rebel finished it with a proud smirk.

Sungmin should never, ever, underestimating an experienced gambler slash pickpocket. Using his ability and his swift hand, the rebel took Sungmin’s chopsticks out of his possesion in a blink of an eye. Seconds later, Sungmin saw the older boy used it to take a slice of meat from the grill.

Had not released his gaze from the blonde, Kyuhyun inserted the meat in his mouth. “Oh, the taste of victory is...” He chewed his food in a slow manner, explicitly teasing the other boy. “Priceless...” he marked it with a whisper.

Month ago, maybe Sungmin would annoyed in response of Kyuhyun’s antics. This time, Sungmin just couldn’t help to smile in amusement while shaking his head a little.

“Victory? Oh I don’t know...” Sungmin raised his body to stand up and started to pace his feet towards a kitchen’s rack. “Well, as happy as you are having your food, I am very much delighted with you answering my question correctly.” The blonde took a chopsticks from one of the rack and walked back to his chair. “You complied with me.” He seated himself on his previous chair. “You may win the battle... But I win the war, Kyu-Hyung...” Sungmin smiled brightly. Joyous feeling was presented perfectly on his face.

“Tsk!” The rebel let out his annoyed chuckle. “ you.” small laugh was slipped out along with his cursing words.

“You’re welcome.” The President smiled wider, his bright teeth appeared proudly.

*****

Cho Kyuhyun was wrong. The rebel admitted, he had underated the blonde President when he came up with his proposal to spend Lee Sungmin Day. He thought it would be full of boredom and tiring activities throughout the day. Kyuhyun had no idea that morning bike, groceries shopping, barbercueing and small talks with the blonde would turn out to be...unfamiliarly fun. Not fond to any kind of sports, unless necessary, if Kyuhyun took out the morning bike from the activities’ list, he definitely had an awesome day today.

The rebel woke up from his sleep due to a loud bangs on his door. When he opened the door, Kyuhyun found a ‘completely ready blonde President to have a bike ride’ with his (rather) tight pants and wife beater. Next thing Kyuhyun knew, he was panting heavily after 30 minutes of biking around Royal Sapphire’s Academy. The rebel could only cursed when he realized that it’s still a long hours until the day is over.

Lee Sungmin started to questioned about Biology, History or Classic Literature–3 subjects Kyuhyun failed repeatedly and needed to get over with–since their groceries shopping. The blonde just couldn’t stop asking about world war II when they passed beer sections with ‘Oktoberfest in Germany’ advertisement on one of the brand, or about their own country history when they passed kimchi paste aisle, or throwing questions about fungus kingdom when he held a box of mushroom for his cooking, or bacterias when the blonde took some yoghurts into his cart. Lee Sungmin would wickedly relate anything to their study materials, and for god’s sake, Cho Kyuhyun needed to cope up with him all day.

The rebel almost couldn’t believe himself how he enjoyed his time with the blonde despite his small quizzes he needed to answer. Of course there were arguments and debates from Kyuhyun, but beyond his awareness, Kyuhyun always complied with Sungmin’s request at the end. Rather than controlling the other, it was more prevalent to say that Lee Sungmin can bring out the best of Cho Kyuhyun.

The clock ticked around 06.30 pm and the couple were sitting lazily face to face on the carpetted floor in the living room. With a filled bottle of Château Margaux, two wine glasses, nuts and cheese on the table, Sungmin and Kyuhyun were going to have a little game of, Sungmin called it, ‘fact or fiction’.

If someone wondered what kind of ‘food’ fact or fiction is, then asked Sungmin and his ‘too creative’ mind. It all started with the blonde’s desire to know Kyuhyun’s life better, hence, he designate a game for it.

One of them would take turn to say some sentences, or topic, or issue about the other and judged whether it was a mere fact or just an outwit fiction. Whatever the real answer revealed, the judged person needed to explain himself or to tell a story related to his given judgement.

“Okay, let me start.” Sungmin volunteered.

“Cho Kyuhyun is just plainly stupid since he almost dropped out of school because he failed in 3 subjects.” The blonde was smiling before giving his judgment. “Fiction.”

Kyuhyun curled his lips to the side, making a smirk. “I’ll take that as a compliment.” Small laughed was heard from the rebel before he asked “Why do you think like that?”

Sungmin was clearing his throat before answering. “I was kind of suspicious when I saw your academic history. From all the subjects that mostly recognized as difficult such as math, physics, chemistry, not one of them you had failed to pass. Moreover, you usually had an 8 for every mathematic’s final exam. Only 3 textbook based subjects like Biology, History and Classic Literature that you had problem with.” The blonde stated.

“So... I assumed that...you failed not because you’re stupid like most students in school thinked of. But it’s either you just lazy, or had problem with the teacher, or hate memorizing text.” He smiled confidently over his prediction.

“Okaay...you’re observing me that much?” The rebel was quite surprised. “And yeah. I hate text, I’m lazy enough to attend class, even exams, and... yes, I have problems with several teachers.” Kyuhyun admitted.

“But I enjoy math...very much.” Kyuhyun added before raised his wine glass and emptied the contain in few gulps.

It was the rule of the game that, if one guessed correctly, the other must finished his glass. On the contrary, when it was a wrong judgments, then the one who judged needed to drink.

“My turn.” Kyuhyun said after he poured another wine into his glass. “It is a definitely true that... Lee Sungmin is a freak pumpkin lover who loves pink.” He marked his sentence with a mocking laugh.

Crimson shade of pink was suddenly appeared on the President’s cheeks. “H-how did you know?” he muttered cluelessly.

Another laugh was heard from the rebel as he answered. “I noticed your daily menu plastered on the fridge. Every freaking day you will have pumpkin cuisine in your food. And when I saw your room... Jesus, there are a hell lot of pink stuffs it makes my eyes hurt.”

“What’s wrong with a boy who love pink?!” Sungmin pouted, feeling irritated and offended with his choice of favorite color.

Kyuhyun was enjoying it. He loved to see the blonde President in his weak state, not that formal and firm like he used to be every day. While admiring his President behaving cutely, he commented “No, of course nothing’s wrong.” He shook a little. “It’s just...pain in the eyes, Min...” he continued to laugh, completely teasing the other.

“Shut up you stalker!” had enough with Kyuhyun, the blonde grasped few amount of nuts and threw it away to the ‘laughing bag’ in front of him.

“Heeyy... You should be grateful.” The targeted rebel was too late to avoid and got few nuts all over his shirt. “Or you would never taste the pumpkin pie that I gave you.” He swatted his shirt to clean the mess.

“Speaking of which... Where did you buy that pie? It was really good.” The blonde who changed his expression with a mention of pumpkin pie, beamed suddenly.

Kyuhyun was still cleaning his shirt when he replied “My mom made it. It’s one of her speciality... And she loves pumpkin too.”

“Your mother must be really beautiful since she has a very good taste...” Sungmin concluded randomly, and very much illogical.

While the blonde President was being proud and all, Kyuhyun released another small laugh, feeling amused by the other male. “Just finish your glass and continue.” He said between his laugh.

The blonde grabbed his glass and drank all of the liquid inside. He had finished gulping his wine when he came up with something. “Oh, I have a good one.”

“Once, there was an article in our school’s magazine about Cho Kyuhyun and Mr. Shim Changmin’s wife affair...” the blonde started again. “...fact.” he assumed.

Strange.

Although Sungmin was eager to know about the real story behind the rumor, he was feeling a little bit hesitant to hear the answer from Kyuhyun’s mouth.

As soon as the rebel heard the blonde’s assumption, he chuckled. “That’s funny. Why do you think it was true?” Instead answering the other, Kyuhyun asked the blonde back.

“Well, considering your life style and the fact that Mr. Shim always put you in trouble and seems like he wanted to kill you everytime he saw you.” Sungmin shrugged. “Anything can happened right?”

Kyuhyun was smirking before said again. “Too bad, you need to drink your wine.” He glanced up to Sungmin. “It’s not true.”

Sungmin slumped his shoulders, feeling a little bit relaxed after Kyuhyun’s confirmation.

“I only met Victoria twice.” Kyuhyun said again.

Shim Victoria, the woman who had been discussed in the article’s headline, knownly as the wife of Shim Changmin, Royal Sapphire’s Classic Literature teacher. As a teacher, Shim Changmin was really popular among students, especially girls. He’s young, good-looking, stylish, not to mention very romantic with all of his knowledge about classic literature and his talent in making a heart-melting poem. His life became more perfect and envied most of the men existed when he married a very beautiful woman named Victoria. They were like an ideal couple we can find in fairytale. However, like any other couple in this world, several months ago, their marriage’s life was facing an obstacle with cheating allegation of Victoria and Cho Kyuhyun. Both were spotted hang out together and quite intimate at a bar in SM Town.

“First time I met her was a long time ago, before she was married.” Kyuhyun started the real story. “I was drinking at a bar in Super Generation club and she was sitting beside me on the stool, looking awkward and clueless. We introduced ourself and had a small talk. I thought she just one of the new or the new dancer they recruited. But, surprisingly, it turned out, she was a new customer who just applied the club’s membership and was waiting for her to pick her up.”

“Seriously?!” Sungmin agaped. The newly information got him surprised.

“Yeah. Surprising, huh? It was a shock for me too. I thought beautiful people didn’t have a problem to find a buddy.” Kyuhyun chortled.

“Second time I met her was at a bar downtown. Unfortunately, she still recognized me even in her half-sober state. Victoria was intended to get drunk and wasted that night. She told me that she had a big fight with her husband about having kids. After she spotted me, she just couldn’t stop to blabber, to drink more and being clingy all the time.” Kyuhyun release a soft sigh. “It was when I wanted to help her out of the bar and get into a taxi, someone captured our pictures.”

Sungmin was just slightly nodded and drank his wine in silence as he didn’t know what to say over the other’s confession. He clearly didn’t want to ask further. The blonde got his answer, and that was all that mattered. Another detailed things happened that night between Kyuhyun and Victoria were unnecessary for him to know.

The two boys had a very comforting silence for a good couple of seconds until Kyuhyun’s voice filled the living room.

“You hate your father...” Kyuhyun started again. “Fact.” He was directing his words towards Sungmin who obviously looked surprised by the sudden mention of his father.

The President didn’t expect that the outcome of his ‘home-made’ game was not only knowing each other better, but also revealing the truth about yourself. With somekind of uncomfortable feeling inside, Sungmin was still capable to curve his lips, making a hollow smile. “From all the questions you can asked me, you chose to ask about my father?”

Kyuhyun shrugged. “I just wanted to know your story with your old man.” He glanced towards the blonde. “It’s just strange that you had few photos with your bodyguard and counselor, while you don’t have any photos of your Dad.” The rebel was munching few nuts while continued. “In fact, I didn’t even find any stuff related to your father in this room.”

Should I tell him?

The question emerged from the blonde’s head. He was asking himself whether he was ready to share his story with Kyuhyun or not. There were a lot of explanations to answer how Sungmin felt about his father. It was a sequence phases, not just an event that stood autonomously.

Sungmin took a deep breath, preparing himself before started to answer. “Hate is a strong word... And I don’t know if I hate him or not. Let’s just say... My happiness and my father doesn’t go along well.”

Hearing the younger’s answer, Kyuhyun’s face crumpled. “What have he done to you?” he asked in curiosity.

Sungmin shifted his seating position a little and answered. “On the contrary, he never did anything to me... He just simply ignored me.” Sungmin bowed his head down. “My father is a very formal person that hardly talk. If he said words to me, then it was a pure command. He never ask how was my day, never request to have a meal together with me, never innitiate a conversation. Several times, during our dinner, I tried to start a family conversation with him. In the end, he just ordered me to be quite when we have our meal-time, the only time that we spent together. Since then, we only eat our food in silence.”

“Are you mad at him because of that?” Kyuhyun continued to ask.

The blonde swayed his head slowly, gesturing an answer for Kyuhyun. “I’m still okay with that. But I still never forgive him regarding the fact that he threw away all traces related to my mother.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know...” Sungmin shrugged his shoulder. “He got mad everytime I asked about my mother, saying that any memories about her was useless and made me weak.”

Before Sungmin went further with his story, a loud noise ringtone interfered and made the couple startled in surprise.

It came from the President’s mobile phone which he responded quickly once he noticed the familiar ringtone.

“Hi Hyung.” Sungmin greeted happily, shortly after he glued the phone on his ear. The blonde clearly didn’t realize how Kyuhyun gave him a sharp, cautious gaze.

“Hey Min... Everything okay over there?”

“Yeah, why shouldn’t be okay?” Sungmin replied with a soft smile forming on his face.

“Good. Well, I was watching this drama called ‘the President’ on tv and suddenly remembered about you.”

“You missed me that much Leeteuk Hyung?” The blonde smile got wider than before.

The scene he saw in front of his eyes was annoying. It made Kyuhyun’s brain suddenly boiled and his blood pressure rose rapidly. The rebel was gathering all of his sanity not to snatch the phone away from Sungmin, and threw it somewhere far from them.

“Yeah, that’s why we’re on our way there.”

“What?” The blonde asked for confirmation. He absolutely didn’t expect that.

“We’re coming to your place, Min.”

.

The blonde cursed.
