Forest

The Beast's Shadow

Heading out the door, Jimin called out a farewell to her father. She wasn't sure if he heard or not, and to be honest, she didn't quite care. There had been a note left on the table explaining where she was going and why. Eventually, he'd find it. Besides, it wasn't like she was doing anything bad.

She stuffed her feet into the wellies that were slightly too small for her feet, but, for today at least, they'd do. She'd found a bike yesterday. It'd been in a shed that her dad had yet to clean out. He'd converted the largest shed into a his veterinary area, after completely revamping it and disinfecting it from head to toe.

The bike was covered in a layer of brown rust and the wheels were slightly deflated, but after getting instructions from Park Chanyeol on Friday, she'd decided that for the short five minute bike ride, it'd do.

Jimin wheeled the bike to the end of the drive and out onto the tarmac road. She swung her leg over to the other side, and, with her left foot, brought the pedal up towards her. She pushed off with her right and turned the pedal with her left foot and began to cycle.

It didn't take too long to reach the forest entrance where Chanyeol had asked to meet her. She'd left ten minutes after she was supposed to be there, hoping against hope that he'd be there so she wouldn't miss it.

And as luck would have it, or common sense, he was there in a red hoodie. His arms were folded against his chest and he was glaring at some spot in the distance. He was leaning against a tree.

Jimin cycled up to him and hopped off of her transport. She smiled tentatively at the taller boy.

"H-hi," she said nervously.

Chanyeol sighed and stood up straight. He looked at his non-existent watch. "What time do you call this?" he asked, anger tainting his usually chiper voice.

"I'm so sorry I'm late! I didn't realise the time and then I couldn't find the bike because my dad had moved it," Jimin lied. "I had everything ready last night, but my dad moved it and I couldn't find it. You're really mad, right?"

Chanyeol sighed, but his expression softened a little. "No, I'm not mad. I'm annoyed that I had to wait for so long. But, whatever. Did you bring the stuff?"

Jimin smiled inwardly. "No. That was your job, remember?"

"M-m-my job? Are you sure? Me?!" Chanyeol asked, his eyes widening to twice their size.

Chanyeol's face dropped to the puddle at his feet. He brought up a hand to his temple, trying to remember the conversation where it was decided that he would be the one with the responsibilty to bring the the equipment. He couldn't recall it.

Jimin took her bag off of her back and held it up with a smile.

*~*~*~*

"This is boring," Chanyeol declared as he used a spade to dig some of the earth and put it into the plastic container. When the container was full of the soggy brown dirt, he realised that there was a worm in it.

He looked at the slightly red wriggling creature for a few moments before pinching it between his index finger and his thumb. Its skin was slippery and it was hard for him to get a good grip on him.

Chanyeol pulled the worm out with great difficulty, scared that he would let it go and it would retreat further into the earth. When it was out, he held it up to his face and watched it move its body, making various shapes. It was trying to get free.

Chanyeol let out a dry laugh. Was that how he looked when he transformed? Did he writhe as much as this creature?

"Be glad that you're not in any pain," Chanyeol whispered and let out a soft sigh. He placed the worm in the hole he'd dug in the ground. The worm tossed for a few moments before Chanyeol dumped some mud on top of him, blocking him out of sight.

He stayed there for a few moments, transfixed by the earth. He didn't know why he was so fascinated, there was no reason to be so curious about a worm. He stared into space, his eyes unblinking.

A call snapped him out. Jimin called out to him, telling him to hurry up before she walked further into the forest, her foot breaking a fallen branch. Chanyeol gave the pile of dirt one last look before standing up straight.

A gust of wind blew past him and the leaves shook. Chanyeol's nose twitched and his hands balled into fists unvoluntarily. He gave a gentle smile.

Not today, he told himself. Not today.

A bird took off, shaking the trees and startling him. Bird ... he'd never tried bird before. He briefly wondered what it tasted like. Would it be hard to catch? How would he go about catching one?

As he mentally devised a plan, his body shrunk. He hunched his shoulders and bent his knees slightly. He was withdrawing his body in on himself.

Jimin called out to him again, telling him to hurry up and Chanyeol jumped, quite literally. He shook his limbs out, trying to expel of the thoughts that he should never have even touched on.

Mentally scolding himself and Kris, Chanyeol hurried after her. The veins on the back of his shaking hands were clearly visible.

*~*~*~*

Joomyun walked around in the forest, his breath coming out haggard. His eyes were alight with excitement. He was like a drug addict that was on his way to get his goods. And in a way, he was.

A twisted smile marred his handsome, pale face. Unwittingly, he stepped into a puddle. But, he took no notice of his water laden trainers. He didn't care.

He looked over his shoulder when he thought he heard someone following behind him, but he couldn't see anyone, so he dismissed it. He was too excited to care and check properly.

He rubbed his finger together, unable to keep the rest of his body still. He had to wait and get further in to transform. His judgement may be cloudy, but he wasn't stupid enough to transform so close to the roadside. For one, he could get knocked over. And if something happened to him in his wolf form, he wasn't sure if he could transform back and someone might just shoot the random wolf to put the animal out of its pain.

Joonmyun increased his pace tenfold, deciding that he wasn't getting where he needed to go fast enough. His breathing became even more harsh. He drew the line at jogging, though, after he stumbled and fell from not looking where he was going.

When he decided that he was in far enough, he leaned against a tree and tipped his head so that it was resting against the rough bark of the tree trunk.

He reached down to his feet and began unlacing his runners. He frowned when he realised that they were wet. When did that happen? He shook his head. That wasn't a priority right now.

Joonmyun took off his two shoes and his socks. He stuffed them in his rugsack that he had brought along with him. He'd perfected exactly what he'd need and how he'd find out where he left his things after a few times.

He took off his jacket and put that away. He tugged at his t-shirt and was about to take it off when he heard voices. A girl called out Chanyeol's voice. What were they doing here?

Chanyeol shouted back to them, telling the girl that he was going to go in the other direction and they should meet again in fifteen minutes.

Joonmyun gulped. He didn't bother to put his shoes on again. He quickly moved through the forest, hurting his feet as he stepped over tree roots and plants. He stood on a nettle once, but he merely winced and moved on. He couldn't linger and he couldn't pause for the pain.

After a short burst of running, Joonmyun tripped over a stone and he fell to his knees. He let out a moan of pain. He pushed himself up off the ground, wincing. He hobbled over to a tree and leant against it, resting.

He closed his eyes trying to control his thoughts. A branch snapped and Joonmyun's eyes opened, looking around for the sorce. They settled on a boy not to far away from him.

"Jongdae, what are you doing here?" he asked, his voice shaking.

"What are you doing?" Jongdae asked. "Why are you here? Why aren't you wearing shoes?"

Joonmyun said nothing. He wasn't sure he could talk without his voice cracking.

"Joonmyun?" Jongdae asked, hating how scared he sounded. He steeled himself up. "Joonmyun?" he demanded and breathed an internal sigh of relief when there was no wobbly note in his voice.

"Jongdae, just leave me be, okay?" Joonmyun whispered, his eyes still closed. He was managing to control his tone better when he spoke quietly, but he wasn't sure if it was just because he was quiet and he couldn't hear a false sound or if he has just managed to control himself overall.

"Not until you tell me." Jongdae regarded the person he would be proud to call his best friend and he frowned. "Joonmyun, what's up?"

Joonmyun pinched the bridge of his nose and breathed in deeply before answering. Jongdae had to strain his ears to hear him.

"You don't understand. None of you do. You all had it so easy. None of you were like me. None of y-" Joonmyun stopped speaking.

Jongdae froze. He could hear deer in the distance. He'd become less freaked out by his ability to be able to detect prey, though it still bothered him. He couldn't take the skill into his everyday life, it would only work in the forest, which bothered him.

"Joonmyun?" Jongdae asked. His voice was shaky.

Joonmyun wasn't listening. His whole body was quivering. His mouth was twitching.

Jongdae started forwards, but before he could reach the other boy, he took off. Jongdae cursed and hurled an insult as he watched Joonmyun's retreating figure.

He let out a shout of anger before pursuing after him. Jongdae was more careful with his step than Joonmyun and he didn't trip as much as the other. Jongdae attributed it to his level-headedness. Joonmyun was like a wild crazy person.

Jongdae heard someone shout out and his blood ran cold. "Joonmyun! I'm going to kill you!" Jongdae shouted, running faster.

Chapter 9: I'm on Jongdae team for romance... Jongdae is my ultimate bias and after him, Chanyeol oppa... So, I call dibs on Jongdae to have Jimin... Jongdae in this story is totally cool... He seems badass and would do anything to protect their Alpha... Poor Jimin to have such wolves obsessed dad... His father is too obsessed with the creature until he forgot his own family feelings... *Sighs*... Great story you have here... For the first time, I stumbled into a story that have the girl character hate wolves or anything related to it... Update soon... ^^

Chapter 9: Hi, a new reader here~
I guess I've done a reallly good job for giving this story a chance to read, seriously at first, I'm not sure weather I should read this or not even if its my favourite genre..but then I try one chapter and cant stop it ^_^

Basically this story hooked me up and I really love the setting and characters..And one more thing that hook3d me up here is that the poster obviously got Jongdae and chanyeol as main characters but in the few early chapters, i was wondering are they really the main, and how the hell would you find connection between chan and chen since they seems to have difference personality, and they are also 10 other wolves! Sorry if you get confused, i'm really bad at wording n i didn't even know what I'm saying here -_-

Well I especially likes Jongdae character the most hehee..sorry, just my bias heart ^__^

And I feel dissapointed reaching this chapter since I WANT TO READ MOOORE ^0^

Another update pleeese..this is getting more interesting ^_^
