Moving In

We Intertwined

A/N: For anyone who hasn't played Harvest Moon, in each game one of the objectives is to get married. So in each village, there are usually a variety of bachelorettes or bachelors, depending on what gender you're playing.

I usually don't do this, but I decided to edit the forward to add the profiles of the girls, including Sunny so you can look forward to each of their roles in the story! Also, this is a more lighthearted, humor/romance fic than anything serious. There will probably be some drama or angst down the road but this is mostly meant for fun and laughter.

Sunny needs more love, ne? I hope you all seriusly enjoy this harem and Sunny centric fic!

Anyway, I'm so glad so many of you are on board for this! Enjoy the first chapter :D

“Are you absolutely sure about this?”

According to her mother’s GPS, they were only about 15 minutes away from their destination. The car ride had lasted longer than 5 hours including breakfast and including rest stops and her mother could not find it within her to stop asking the same damn question the whole time.

“Yes,” Sunny repeated firmly for what seemed to be the millionth time. She loved her mother, she loved her dearly but she had gotten on her nerves about 12 hours ago when Sunny started packing and her mother started the endless repetitive questioning.

“It’s a lot of work,” her mother continued, one hand on the wheel and her other hand on Sunny’s. She kept looking back and forth between the road and Sunny, her eyes desperate for Sunny to change her mind.

“I’m not going to change my mind mom,” she replied, rolling her eyes and grabbing her mom’s hand tightly. She squeezed it as if reassuring her mother, telling her that things will be okay. That she will be okay and that there is nothing to worry about.

“Fine.”

It took several minutes for Sunny’s eyes to adjust to the size of the place. The land the old man owned was much larger than she remembered. She expected it to be the other way around since the last time she had come, she was smaller. He must have upgraded a lot in the past 8 years, she figured. Now it was up to her to continue expanding it.

“Wow,” she whispered breathlessly. She closed her eyes and took in the fresh air. It was definitely much different than what she inhaled back in the city. The scent was a little on the damper, muskier side, but Sunny knew that she’d learn to love it.

Because the old man had been dead for several weeks now, weeds had grown all over the place and debris from past stormy weather was evident. However, it didn’t take away from the vast beauty that was the farm. Sunny opened her arms wide and even then it didn’t seem like she could hold the entire land in her arms. It was overwhelming but exciting at the same time.

“It’s all mine?” Sunny asked her mom, turning to the trembling woman who now had to face separating from her youngest daughter.

“Yes,” she said, nodding her head and pulling Sunny closer to her. “Apparently he wanted to leave the farm to you! The mayor informed me that it was in his will.”

“Really?!” Sunny asked, quite surprised. She remembered telling the old man through passing letters that she would’ve loved working with him again, but never did she imagine him leaving the entire farm to her. It made her feel sad, he really must have not had any other family. But it made her happy at the same time, that the old man loved her so much to even leave behind his legacy for her.

“It would seem so,” her mother responded with a slow nod, “Come on, let’s get you moved in and then I’ll get going.”

Sunny knew her mother. The woman was efficient, hardworking and terribly organized. So she knew right away that her mother was stalling when she took way more time than usual to help Sunny unpack. But she didn’t say anything, she figured she wouldn’t be seeing her for a while.

Sunny’s dog ran around the practically empty house filled with boxes, sniffing and investigating every new corner. Sunny would’ve let her dog out if she wasn’t afraid that the small creature would get lost in the seemingly endless farm. Once her dog found the bed, she climbed on top and decided to take a little rest.

Hyomin was a red sesame shiba inu that Sunny asked for as a present only a year ago. The two had grown extremely close in the span of a year and it wasn’t difficult for Sunny to convince her mom to let her bring the pup with her to live on the farm. Her mother didn’t want Sunny to grow lonely and her father didn’t want to have to deal with another dog without Sunny at home.

The house was fairly small for the old man lived there himself. A simple kitchen, one washroom, a small living room and a small bedroom was what made up its components. Sunny was glad she decided to bring all of her things over to decorate the place up.

It took about two hours, but once Sunny and her mother were done, the place looked like home.

Standing outside of her mother’s car, Sunny could barely breathe under her mother’s grip. She held onto her like she was about to disappear forever into thin air. But Sunny understood, and allowed her mother to prevent her from taking in oxygen for just a little while longer.

“Mom, you should head home now or else you’ll be back home when it’s dark,” Sunny suggested, rubbing calming circles into her mother’s back. She didn’t want to let go either, but neither party would get anything out of postponing the inevitable.

“I know,” her mother replied weakly, sobbing slightly into Sunny’s shoulder. “I’ll miss you.”

Sunny kissed her mother sweetly on her forehead, “I’ll miss you too mom. Call me when you get home okay? And promise me you’ll visit when you have the time.”

Her mother nodded before kissing Sunny on both of her cheeks, “Alright, love. Take care now.”

If there was one thing Sunny hated about herself, it was her tendency to cry easily. Once her mother drove away, leaving her and Hyomin alone she broke down. The longest she had ever been away from her parents was a week for a school trip. They called her every other day but she still missed them dearly.

“Oh well,” she mumbled to her dog, “It’s time to grow up right?”

Sunny took her dog for a walk around the farm to take in the entire area. It looked like someone had dug up all of the old man’s crops, leaving only weeds, twigs and stones in the field. She hoped that the old man left some tools for her to work with. She decided that once she was done with the tour, she’d get to work on the field right away.

From afar she could see a giant windmill. When she got up close, she saw a pile of old corn and a feeder where what she believed bird seed resided. With a firm nod, she decided to check the chicken coop to see if any of the old man’s animals still remained.

Upon opening the door, she instantly heard clucking. Although loud and obnoxious, the sound brought a smile upon her face. Inside were two chickens and a rooster. They looked at her for a brief moment before going back to their business. Whatever it was that birds did. She looked around inside the coop to find name tags for where the chickens slept.

“Sooyoungie, Hyuna and Bacon?” Sunny read the labels out loud to herself several times to make sure that she wasn’t imagining things. She expected names like Chick and Cluck or something along those lines. “Isn’t Bacon a name for a pig or something? That’s weird. Oh well, I’m not going to doubt Old Man Kim.”

She threw some feed she picked up from the mill at the chickens before waving goodbye to them. They were her family now, she told herself. She’d memorize their names and get them to love her the way they loved the old man.

The barn wasn’t too far off from the coop and along the way Sunny couldn’t help but admire the various trees. They were all apple trees apparently and she was incredibly thankful. She loved apples!

Upon reaching the barn, she opened the door slowly so she wouldn’t surprise whatever live stock was inside. To her delight, she found one cow and one sheep. The barn was rather large however, the town’s people must have taken away most of the other animals by now. Was the cow and sheep a gift? Or were they just the last to be taken away? Either way, Sunny was thankful.

“They’re so cute!” she cooed, Hyomin seemed to agree as well. She had run up to the sheep and was busy sniffing the creature.

Carefully, she walked up to the animals and placed her hand in front of their faces. Instantly, they reacted well and nuzzled her hand, allowing her to pet them. Even since Sunny was a child she had some sort of magical bond with animals. It was probably the reason why their family had so many pets over the years. Hyomin being only one of four dogs the entire family owned.

“I wonder what their names are?” she asked Hyomin as she looked for similar name tags to the ones she found in the coop.

Apparently the cow’s name was Greeny. Ah, yes! Sunny remembered Greeny. She was the old man’s favourite new born calf from about two years ago. It was great seeing the cow she only saw through several old photos so big. The sheep had no label on its sleeping area yet so Sunny made a mental note to name it later.

After finding the place for the animal’s feed, she decided to take some and put it in their pens for them to eat. And in that moment, Sunny realized that someone had to be taking care of the animals before her arrival. She wondered if she was going to meet them anytime soon?

When she finished her business in the barn, Sunny decided to walk back to her house to look for some tools. To her surprise, there seemed to be a group of three people at her door. An old looking man and two girls.

“Hello there!” she called out cheerfully. She wanted to make sure that she left a good impression on her new town’s people. She needed them to love her as soon as possible, not that Sunny has ever had trouble getting people to love her. She was known as the energy pill back in her high school and she knew about 80% of the school’s population.

The three unknown characters turned around at the sound of Sunny’s voice and instantly wore bright smiles at the sight of Sunny. Hyomin ran up to the three strangers and instantly sniffed them.

“She doesn’t bite,” Sunny commented when she noticed one of the girls looking slightly terrified.

“Welcome to Mineral Town!” the old man greeted, a wide almost toothless smile on his face as he extended his hand. “You must be Sunny Lee, correct?”

Sunny took his hand gladly and shook it, “Yes, and thank you! It’s a pleasure. You must be Mayor…?”

“Just Mayor is fine,” one of the girls answered for her. “Hi, I’m Taeyeon Mayor, this old man’s eldest daughter.”

Sunny was glad to instantly find a friend amongst the town’s folk. This Taeyeon girl appeared to be about the same height as her and probably a little older. She knew that they would have a lot in common just based on their height alone. A friend who suffered the same vertical challenge as her was always Sunny’s favourite.

“And I’m Yoona Mayor, his youngest daughter,” the other girl greeted, extending her hand for Sunny. This girl looked approximately the same age as Sunny, but way taller than both her and Taeyeon.

Although Sunny wanted to ask what kind of last name Mayor was, she decided to hold her tongue and just accept the friendly welcome. It surprised her that it didn’t come earlier seeing that her mother told the Mayor that she would be coming rather early. Not that Sunny minded, it gave her time to explore.

“A pleasure to meet all of you,” Sunny continued, bowing towards all three.

“Such a polite young lady,” the old man exclaimed, clapping his hands together. “I’m so glad you’re taking over Mr. Kim’s farm.”

Sunny blushed at the compliment before rubbing the back of her neck and bowing again.

“We just came by to see who was taking over,” Taeyeon said as she looked around the farm, “It sure is a lot of work, are you sure you can handle it?”

Sunny nodded confidently and placed both hands on her hips, “You can count on me! I may be tiny, but I have a lot more in me than you think.”

Her three guests all turned to each other and nodded before shining bright, teeth exposing smiles at the new farmer. Well, one with a bit less teeth than the others. It was in their smiles however that Sunny truly saw the resemblance between the family.

“We’re looking forward to your progress,” Yoona said before affectionately petting Sunny as if she were a dog. She giggled and ran her fingers freely through Sunny’s short, shaggy brown hair.

Sunny wanted to glare at the girl for acting so friendly and teasing her all of a sudden, but she decided to hold back, “T-Thanks.” She managed to stutter, trying her best not to let any steam come out.

“Well then ladies, I guess we’re done here,” the Mayor announced before turning around, “Do take your time to explore the town as well, Sunny dear. Old Man Kim was very well loved here so I’m sure everyone would be more than willing to help you if you ever need it.”

As the old mayor made his way off Sunny’s farm, the two daughters decided to stay behind for just a moment longer.

“So how old are you?” Taeyeon asked, tilting her head, “I would like to say 15, but I doubt a 15 year old would be able to handle a farm on her own.”

Sunny felt a little taken aback, people always thought she looked young but 15 was a little much. She was a full grown adult now!

“I’m actually 18,” she corrected with a raise of her brow, “And how old are you Taeyeon?”

“Oh, you’re 18?” Yoona repeated with wide eyes, “Whoa, then that means you’re older than me! I’m 17.”

Sunny let out a slightly awkward laugh as Hyomin sat down on her foot and watched her owner as she tried her best not to playfully slap the girls in front of her.

“Why do you sound so surprised?” Sunny couldn’t help but ask, “Don’t I look my age?”

“You’re kinda tiny,” Taeyeon deadpanned, raising her hand right above Sunny’s head.

Yoona snorted before placing her elbow on her sister’s head, “Look who’s talking.”

Sunny wanted to agree and laugh as well, but she figured it’d be more polite to hold back. For now, at least.

“Girls!” the old Mayor called. It appeared that he finally realized that his daughters were lagging behind.

Sunny, Taeyeon and Yoona all bowed at once, causing all of their heads to crash due to their impeccable timing. Sunny held her head tightly, those two certainly had hard heads. Yoona just laughed as she grabbed Taeyeon’s hand and pulled her towards their father.

“We’ll see you around~!” Yoona chirped as she skipped happily towards her father.

“And I’m 21!” Taeyeon screamed as she was dragged by her younger sister.

Sunny chuckled as she watched the happy family leave her farm, arms waving frantically.

It made her tingle, calling the place hers. But it truly was. Her precious farm that she inherited from her favourite old man.

And she swore that she would take care of it.

Once her visitors’ shadows disappeared, Sunny decided that it was time to get to work. Hyomin barked loudly as if knowing exactly what the girl was thinking.

“You excited to work too, girl?” Sunny asked as she her dog’s fur affectionately.

Despite the endless teasing, Sunny was in a very good mood. It appeared that the towns’ people were very friendly people, just like Old Man Kim. If she had been honest, she was actually terrified of taking such a huge responsibility under her wing.

But now, standing alone on her farm with her faithful dog, she didn’t think it would be so bad.

“I’m ready!”
