When we are all born we’re given a little necklace from the hospital, which is promptly put around our necks after we’ve taken our first few breaths as infants. These necklaces are a light pink at the time of birth but as time passes and you mature and grow through puberty, the colour on the necklace begins to change, ranging from black all the way to a very bright scarlet red. The necklace begins to grow brighter all the way from black through blue through purple to pink and then finally to red, all depending on where you geographically are as regards to your own soul mate.

I wish I had have been told this by someone, my mother simply forgot and I viewed the necklace as a piece of cheap metal that had to stay around my neck at all times. That was another thing, if you took the necklace off, even for a second, it would stop working and mother made it painfully serious that I was to always wear mine, no matter what.

I never even felt the need to ask people what it was about; people didn’t really talk about it. People kept their necklaces hidden but always wore them and I just assumed that they were the same black colour as mine. One certain day I got to view my own parents’ necklaces as we took a trip to the pool when we lived in California. They were bright scarlet coloured and even beamed underwater. I was determined to get mine to look like that but I just had one problem; I had no idea how too. That was, until we moved to Korea.

The idea behind the necklace is taken from things I’ve read and seen online so I take no credit for this! Apart from this however, the writing is all my own! Consequently, I really hope you enjoy this fanfic!
