Storyline:

After 10 years Donghae thought he’d moved on from his first love but as he worked as a manga editor for SM Publishing he would then encounter him again but this time Kyuhyun was courting him back for them to have their relationship back, would Donghae tell him again that he loves Kyuhyun?

 

 

Donghae was at the shelves looking for a book he wanted to read, he we choosing at the isle when he found the book he wanted. He was about to pull it out of the shelf when someone then hand their hands on it, he was surprised of the person that was about to take the book and as he turned to see who it was

 

“Oh no” he said in his mind, “I spaced out”, “Park Sunbae” he greeted him. “And I always made sure to look at him from afar!”

“Why do you know my name?” Kyu asked, Hae panicked “Um-um, I’m sorry” he apologized “Here take the book

 

 He blushed and looked down from him, “From the past three years of junior high and high school, all I’ve done is watch him”. He stuttered to say something more

 

“This is the fourth year… I decided… I decided to keep these feelings hidden form heart forever, but once he was right in front of me, my feelings started to spill over. I tried to keep them in, but they flooded out… sunbae, I love you, I love you, I love you”, “I love you” he spoke the words in his mind out

 

He realized what he just said, he was shocked with his confession and gasped at his mistake, “No… um, I mean~” he tried to take back what he said but he stopped when he felt a hand ruffled his hair, “Everything was so pure back then. But now ten years later”

“Lee Donghae, Age 25”, “What?” he then turned to a cantankerous adult, “I’m being assigned to the Shoujo Manga Department? H-Hold on! I made it very clear during the interview! I was in charge of editing literature at my last job and I want to work on literature here!” he bang his hands at the desk

 

“I see… but my superiors are the ones who make HR decisions not me…” she said to him

 

“Can you check on more time? Something might have changed between then and now!” he didn’t want to accept the department he was about to work with

 

“Oh… but these decisions are made immediately” she concluded, “But…” Hae wanted to justify his job description, “It says, “Donghae-shi, employed mid-career, is to be assigned to the Shoujo Manga Division of SM Publishing”. She pointed out the documents that verify the information, “That’s how it is” she spoke in a perky way

 

Hae was speechless with what he was seeing, “Come on, I’ll take you to the editing department” she invited

 

He stood up and followed her, “This !How did this happened, I specifically switched jobs so that I could work on literature! Why Manga? I don’t even read manga! Especially not Shoujo Manga!”(Note: Shoujo Manga is a Love story manga) “This is usually…”

 

Hae grumbled “Isn’t putting a man in the Shoujo manga department the same this as shelving a useless employee?” the lady looked at her to answer his thought

 

“Oh that’s not how it is at all!” she smiled brightly “I know it looks like a storage room, but a year after the current editor joined us, it became the number one editing department” she stated “It even received an award from the President” she added, “Oh?” he spoke inside his head

 

“Plus, the editors are all handsome men!” she blushed as she said so, “The editors are all men?” he asked “Even worse” he thought

 

“I believe so!” she answered back, “I would like to quit now”. “A lot of girls here have their eyes on them; there are a lot of pheromones in the air at the end of the period. Well you’ll figure it out once you see it” she said in a joyous way, “But I can’t exactly do that, period?” he wondered at that certain word

 

“Anyway, I’ll stay for two weeks and then find a reason to quit”, he began to think of resigning. “Excuse me, I’m with management. I’ve brought a new assignee” she greeted an employee, “Oh, of emerald it’s that way” he pointed

 

“If I’m going to quit, it’s probably a good idea to meet with the editor, he might be useful later. After all, you usually can’t get back on your feet within a year. I have to assess the market trends and then make a detailed plan” he was drifting off with his thinking, “Nice to meet you, I’m going to be working with you from now on, my name is Lee Donghae” he bowed but he had his eyes closed when he greeted, “That’s right, if I do things exactly, exactly”

 

 

When he opened his eyes, he was shocked to see the whole pile of books and exhausted co-workers all around, he was practically speechless with the sight and same goes to the shocked management representative, “I’m… I’m sorry! It’s the wrong phase of the period!” she panicked at the sight of the department, she then ran off leaving Hae at the process “Well, do your best!”

 

He turned to catch her but she took off quickly, “What? um… wait!”, he then saw another person passing though, “Um, is this the emerald editing department?” the man didn’t look at him “Y-Yeah…” and then another man also answered “But we aren’t part of it”

 

“Why are they avoiding me?” he wondered why, “What’s going on here? And why does it smell like a locker room?”. “Um… I’m Lee” and all of a sudden a hand took hold of his arm, he shrieked at the feel of that hand, “What…” the guy lazily asked

 

“That’s what I’d like to ask!” his heart raced at the shock, “As of today, I’ll be working here…”

 

“Oh… was there someone like that coming today? Cho-shi, new guy!” he shouted for their head, Cho-shi! Cho-shi are you awake? Boss!” he yield

 

“Shut up!” was the reply made, I heard you the first time!” Hae looked at the person that answered back

 

Hae felt awkward with the person that was entitled boss, “This guy? Boss? Neat and tidy in comparison”

 

Kyu stood up from his seat and scratched his head; he looked at Hae with a tired look, “So? Who’s this? A part timer?”

 

Hae felt annoyed with what he just said “I’m a full time employee”, “Your name?”, “Lee Donghae!”

 

“Oh, yeah, that’s right. I heard someone like you was coming” he yawned and walked pass through him, “What the hell?”, “Please to meet you” “What’s Someone like you, supposed to mean?”

 

“I wasn’t at the interview, but i heard that you have editing experience?”

 

“Ah, yes at Lee Publishing”

 

“You did Shounen? Seinen?”

 

“Ah, no. I worked on literature” he cleared, “There’s something about him”

 

“Huh? Literature?”

 

“Yes!”, “Oh, no, no, I shouldn’t judge based on a slip of the tongue” he tried to convince himself that he was wrong with his first impression

 

 

“So you’re completely new at manga?”

 

“Yes”, “But”

 

Kyu firmly looked at him, “Useless” and shocked Hae with his sudden judgment

 

“This guy is the worst” he felt like he was so unlucky at that time

 

“Cho-shi, Yuri-shi’s here with her replacement manuscript and she’s already in the lounge” a co-worker said

 

“Got it” Kyu answered, “Follow me, newbie”

 

It caught Hae’s attention “Huh?”

 

“Show me you can do your job” he didn’t looked back and kept walking

 

They made their way to the lounge, “Is the replacement manuscript for this month?”

 

“Yeah”, “When is it going on sale again?”

 

“In seven days” he answered firmly

 

“Is hitting the shelves in just seven days? When did they start drawing the replacement manuscripts?” he felt that I was a small amount of time before it hits the sales

 

“Three days ago”, “Seriously?” he was dumbfounded with time span

 

“Um, are there not enough replacement on hand? Like the ones at new mangaka?” he wondered

 

“We’ve got a lot, but they’re all ty”

 

“But if we need to use replacements, then that can’t be helped” he analysed the situation and the possible solution

 

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s an editor or an artist, but the person who only thinks of compensating with replacements is an idiot” he pointed out the fact

 

“Why fill the empty spaces with plain old rocks, when you can stiff them with diamonds? That’s common sense” Hae was struck by the fact, “That, maybe true. But in the end it’s too idealistic”

 

They were greeted by the artist and they all sat at the table to check the replacement manuscript. They checked the whole details, “Thank you for your work. I’m sorry I told you it’d be impossible to finish in three days” he told her

 

“Oh no, it’s alright, I had time” she was taking out some of the scripts out from her bag, “Did you bring your drawings?” he asked

 

“Ah, yes. I did as you told me”

 

“About this kissing scene; can you make it a little more dramatic?” Hae wondered what he meant by that

 

“He’s making her redraw it? Aren’t the printing officers waiting?” Kyu was pointing out how to redo the scene, “Uh, like this?”

 

“More like you’re seeing it in this angle. No from this perspective… You’ve kissed someone before right?” he suddenly asked

 

“Whoa, what are you asking? That’s ual harassment” Hae thought to himself

 

“Um…” she panicked at the question

 

“It’s already drawn very well, plus, there’s not enough time. Isn’t it fine the way it is?” he questioned the rework

 

“We can still make it better” he placed hand under his chin, “Amateurs should be quiet”

 

 

“Amateur?” he felt devastated

 

She chuckled hollowly, “But you can’t see how you’re kissing someone when you’re doing it yourself” Hae added the fact

 

Kyu stood up “You’ve got a point” he realized, “All right, I’ll show you a sample so draw it quickly”

 

Hae also stood up to assist, “Oh, I’ll do it. You need samples, right? I’ll go get them where are they?” he offered to fetch the manga

 

“Draw it from an angle you can see the chin and add a kind of breezy feeling to it” he instructed her

 

“Uh, I still don’t know where I should go to get the samples” Hae asked

 

“As for the title” he was then grabbed by the arm, he froze to see Kyu took hold of his chin and their face quickly collide, he felt a warm pair of lips smacked onto his and an arm wrapping around his waist and a hand hold his face steady, his eyes gorged out with what was happening

 

When Kyu released him from the succulent kiss, he gasped while the artist drew the whole scene in a flash, “Did you get it?” she nodded “Good now hurry up and finish it in pen” he ordered

 

“W-W-What the hell was that?” he took hold of Kyu’s arm, “What do you mean?” Kyu didn’t understood his question

 

“That… was work” he seriously answered back

 

“This really ; I just need to last two weeks”

After finally submitting the manuscript for printing

 

Donghae rested at the seat, “I probably… don’t have it in me. Things I know so far”

 

·         The guys in the Emerald editing department are a bunch of weirdoes. (Employees from the editing departments avoid them)

·         They’re very passionate when it comes to Shoujo Manga.

 

“Passionate? oh yeah, they’re definitely passionate enough to use themselves as models. Who would’ve thought I’d get ually harassed on my first day here”

 

He felt his stomach clench up “My stomach hurts; I wanted to edit literature. That’s all I wanted to do. Turn a book into a work of art”

“It was probably because my dad was the president of a publishing company, but I’ve always loved books. The only thing I wanted to do was work at my dad’s company. As soon as I started, there was a lot of pressure from working with big-name authors, but I was happy”

 

“It takes a lot of time to publish hardcovers. You have to reach a consensus with the author and consult them on the book design. What kind of image do you want? Do you want it to come with an obi? A bookmark?In what color?”

 

“I poured my heart into the making and selling of books and I was happy. But even then”

 

“This month’s best-sellers is another book that Lee handled” someone spoke from the side

 

“You’re kidding, again?”

 

“Well yeah”
 

“He’s only here because of his parents, so he has it really easy”

 

Donghae felt bad of what he was hearing “You’re right, we’ve been here longer, but a new-comer like him gets to work with important authors. We’ve been working so hard, but we only get to work with authors at the bottom of the barrel. It’s not fair” the guy mentioned

 

“They’re only top-sellers because of the author anyway”

 

“All he does is sending the manuscripts to the printing office, but he’s still valued for his work. It doesn’t make sense!”

 

“He’s useless”

“But… I never wanted to use my dad. All I wanted was to try my hardest, on my own” he felt the reality on how people see his current success

 

“My old self would’ve probably been too shocked to do anything, but at that time, I felt my worth was being called into question”

 

“That’s why I should just quit this place already and go to another company where I can make a book that sells millions!” he crumpled up the paper cup he hand in his hand “But in the end, this is my own fault”

 

He rested his back at the chair, “It feels like I’ve lost sight of who I am, but it’s not as though I feel this way because of what happened with Sunbae”

 

A glimpse of the past ran inside his mind “I love you, Sunbae… I love you”

 

“After what happened back then… I started to expect the worst in everything” he recalled the intimacy between them

 

“I mean, isn’t it better that way? Then, even if a situation ends up hurting you, none of the wounds will be as deep… Ah… no stop! You’ve already forgotten what he looks like! Just stop thinking about the human condition! Right now you need to figure out how to quit and switch jobs again!” he felt dreaded with his thinking

 

“Hey!” he got startled at the sudden call

 

“YES!” he turned to face the person

 

“Hey, apologize for that kiss back there!” he thought, “Did you send the manuscripts to press?”

 

“Yeah, we finished the work for this month’s issue. So, I just talked to higher-ups. You’re the heir to the Lee Publishers?” it got Hae’s whole attention

 

“I’m not related to that company at all” he answered back

 

“Annoyed you got assigned here when you wanted to do literature?” Hae felt his heart beat loudly at what he said

 

“You have no idea”, “No… it’s more like… I mean isn’t Shoujo Manga all about love?” he shifted the topic

 

“That’s not really my thing; it’s not that I have a negative idea of it. I just don’t really understand it”

 

Kyu took a cigar, “If you’re going to be a burden ‘cause you don’t want to do this, then quit. I think there lots of people in the world who can do what they like at their jobs” Hae felt even more annoyed by what he just said

 

“But that’s…” he was cut off

 

“Everyone starts out as a beginner. There’s no way that you experience doing literature will be useless here. Well…” he trailed off

 

“What the… could he be encouraging me?” he began to believe

 

“Useless guys will always be useless, no matter how hard they try” he tauntingly said as he exhaled the smoke out from his mouth

 

“I’m going to kill him” he felt really mocked by that

 

Kyu then crushed the cigar at the trash tray, “The other guys have already gone home, so you can, too”

 

“My name is Lee!” he annoyingly said

 

“Oh, yeah”

 

“What?”

 

“Have I met you before?” Kyu asked

 

Hae wondered, “Who knows?” he bluntly answered

After a while Donghae got back to the editing department

He carried a stack of books and looked at the surroundings

 

“This office is a garbage dump”

 

“If I lose here it’ll be the same as before” he was reading the Manga that were already been published to have an overview of the whole theme for the Shoujo

 

“If I’m deemed useless after I try my hardest, then that’s my own fault. But being deemed useless when I haven’t even started… is something I can’t allow… I’ll show him what I can do”

 

“Going home?” a woman asked Kyu

 

“Meeting… later” he went off

 

He saw Donghae reading at the department and wondered why he was alone
