First Step

Sugar, We're Going Down

They were right, I cursed, stepping off the plane and onto the snow, Canada is FREEEEZINGGG!!~

It seemed like years to get through passport control and collecting my bags. I had a quick glance at my watch and almost had a heart attack. I was meant to meet Kris an hour ago.

Damn it.

I spotted a quiet corner near the exit and just dumped by bags, not really caring if they got dirty or not. I sighed and whipped out my phone – I had to call the only person I knew who would help me out this mess.

“Donnie?”

“Oh my god Sammi, how did you do it?!”

“Donnie!” Sammi said in-between her laughter. “You had it so much easier than I did; at least you have someone meeting you…”

 I groaned, “But I’m late and I think he’s left…”

“No way!” Sammi shouted, “You said he sounded like a harsh person, but he can’t be that mean.”

“I guess you’re right…”

“I’m always right! Now just wait by your gate and text him,”

I grimaced. “I’ve only emailed him before, not called or texted him before…”

“Well, this is a first then! Now do it before it gets dark and get left in the airport for the rest of your life!”

Just then I heard another voice in the background, telling Sammi off for being such a drama queen and Sammi squealed like she was being tickled.

“Who’s that?”

Sammi shouted at the person and returned to the phone. “Don’t worry. I have to go, so call Kris now! Or I’ll do it for you!”

I really wanted Sammi to do it for me, but it would give leave a bad impression.

“Fine, but you have to tell me everything later!”

Ending the call, I snapped my phone shut and looked around for a ‘Kris’. Spotting a small coffee stand, my mouth started to feel dry. I’ll get pick up a latte to calm my down a little, then text Kris. I went back to the gate and noticed someone holding a sign with my name written on it. He was a tall blonde, muscular and very good looking. I couldn’t help but check him out when I noticed he was part Chinese.

Well, it’s about time something good happened around here…

I started daydreaming about what Mr God and I would get up to in our future. It wasn’t until I heard someone clear their throat that Mr God is right in front of me!

“Amelia Jeffery?” he asked.

His deep voice rang though my chest and I nearly died. But I needed to keep my cool and just held my hand out for him to shake.

“Yes, it is I.” Oh my, why do I sound so posh?

He gripped my hand and shook it. Man, he has a strong hold!

“I’m glad you are willing to work for me,” he said huskily with a smirk. “I could do with some help…”

I smiled sweetly. “That’s why I’m here, sir.”

“Please,” he said “Call me Kris.” Picking up my luggage and gesturing towards the exit.

“Shall we?”

 ~*~

The car journey was long and filled with awkward silence. Well, for me anyway. Kris kept asking me questions; about life in England, qualifications and even asked about what my friends were up too. I couldn’t answer properly and kept stuttering; it was hard sitting next to such an attractive man.

We soon pulled up next a grand looking house, built with a ‘log effect’. It was three floors high and had matching patterned curtains at each window with a potted flower.

Seems perfect.

The tyres of the car crunched the rocks underneath them as Kris rolled it into the driveway. Turning off the engine, Kris swiftly got out the car and went to the other side to hold the door open. Thanking him gratefully, I studied the surroundings whilst Kris got the luggage out of the boot. The house was almost isolated if it weren’t for the small village about a mile down the road.

Kris went to the door and I followed. He dug a shining gold key out his pocket and handed it to me.

“This is yours.”

I flinched at the touch of his hand and shakily opened the door. The smell of fresh wood tingled my nose and the marble floor was cold. The first floor of the house was open without any walls or doors; a kitchen, living room and dining room all in one. Upstairs had 4 equally sized rooms with bathrooms attached and a small study.

WOW. This is grand.

Kris cleared his throat, snapping me back to reality.

“I’ve got to go pick the boys up from school,” he informed me. “I won’t be long. I’ll let you explore the house for a bit.”

He turned and walked away, but stopped.

“Oh, you’re room is labelled…”

I smiled gratefully, watching him go to the door and bend over to sweep a stray shoe aside. I couldn’t help but admire the view.

He has a fine …

Kris’s 5 year old boy twins; Luhan and Sehun, are crazy. They looked identical, even though they aren’t.  They both have similar colored hair and do everything the same. Sehun’s a little taller than Luhan and teases him about it quite a lot. However, Sehun has a slight lisp and Luhan loves to get sweet revenge by mimicking him. So when they don’t get on together; they always fight. And it wasn’t little fights.

“AHHHHHH Let go~!”

“NO! Not until you say you’re sorry!”

“AHHHH! Ok,Ok! THEHUN, I’MTH THO THORRY!!~”

“LUUUUUUHAAAAANNNN~~~”

“AHHHHHHHH!!!!”

“Oh my goodness, what is going on in here?!”

The two boys stopped, not letting go of each other and stared up at me. Almost instantly, Sehun burst into tears.

“Amelia-noona~ Luhannie started it.” He wailed with a pout.

Luhan rolled his eyes, “Don’t listen to him! I just asked him to repeat what he said ‘cause he said ‘sugar’ funny…”

“I DID NOT!!!”

“Sehun,” I went over and patted his head trying to sooth the crying boy down.  “There’s no need to shout.”

“But Amelia-noona~” he cried, tears running down his cheeks.

“I think someone is tired,” I cooed and scooped the boy into her arms. “Shall we warm up some milk and go to bed?”

Sehun nodded and rubbed his eyes. Balancing Sehun in one arm, I turned back to Luhan.

“But before we go,” I scolded the oldest twin. “I think Luhannie has something to say to you for teasing you...”

Luhan nodded and tugged at Sehun’s foot. “Luhannie is sorry Sehunnie~ Bbuing Bbuing~?”

OH MY GOD. I almost dropped poor Sehun – Luhan is just SO CUTE~! Sehun squirmed a little and I put him down.

“Tis ok Luhannie~” Sehun said, padding over the Luhan with his arms wide open. Luhan went over and hugged him tightly, rubbing his face in Sehun’s chest.

I nearly fainted.

“Do you know who his is?”

Daisy gave me a funny look through the webcam. “Who are you talking about Amelia?” she asked.

Daisy is the oldest of Sammi and I and was living in China with her boyfriend, Chen. They had met after a performance in China Sammi had taken her to. Daisy was only there on a holiday break, but she spent most of her time hanging out with Chen. Their relationship blossomed and kept growing even when Daisy had to go back home. A few years later, Daisy decided to move to China with Chen. They had a flat together with many cats and a couple of ducks they saved from nearby restaurants.

“Sammi’s boyfriend?”

Daisy fell off her chair.

“Daisy?”

She got back up on her chair, wiping away tears of laughter.

“Yeah, good one Amelia!”

I pouted. “Then who was with her when I was on webcam the other day?”

Daisy shrugged. “Maybe Jongin?”

“Who’s that?”

“Someone in her dance class I think. I don’t know; you’ll have to ask her yourself!”

“Fine…”

There was a moment of silence before Daisy exploded.

“OMG YOU NEVER GUESS WHAT!!”

Turning the sound down a little so I wouldn’t turn deaf, I proceeded to ask what was up.

“CHEN’S ASKED ME TO MARRY HIM!!!”

Daisy’s ring finger was pushed right up to webcam and I could see the diamond in all its full glory.

“OMG Daisy! When? What happened?!”

Hours went by with Daisy explaining how the whole day went. She woke to find no one was around; even the ducks and cats had disappeared! Going to the kitchen, she found there was no food either and there was a letter on the table telling what she needed to do. Daisy spent the day buying food and toys and following messages posted all over the streets. In the end, she was in the park with Chen and he popped the question. Daisy confessed she cried a little, but just then Chen’s face appeared on the screen saying in confused English that Daisy fainted and had to be taken to the hospital. Daisy gave him a light hit on the arm for being so cheeky and pushed him away.

I tried my best to be happy for her, but I couldn’t help but feel a tiny bit jealous. She seemed so happy and loved-up with Chen; why can’t I have someone like that in my life?
