Black As Nightmare

Whispers of the Heart

A silent wind blew throughout the kingdom.

On the rooftop of the palace tower Jessica stood staring up at the skies.

She wore her long black cloak with its hood.

Underneath she wore her casual clothes for combat.

A button down jacket.

Sturdy pants.

And combat boots.

A knife hung to her side and she cradled her hand gun.

Jessica closed her eyes as she let the coldness sink into her bones.

She opened them up to see that dark storm clouds had gathered.

Soon an icy shower filled the land.

The cold water seeped through Jessica's clothes but the she did nothing.

The Ice Princess stood perfectly still.

Watching the stormy night skies before her.

She was lost in her thoughts and memories.

*Flashback*

"Unnie! Look at what I found!"

A small girl picked up a flower and showed it to her older sister.

The older girl smiled at the little one.

"Omo~! It's so pretty sweetie. Why don't we pick a lot for umma?"

The younger sister giggled.

"Yes~! Let's pick a whole bunch for umma~! But unnie has to help okay?"

Nodding, the two girls were soon busy picking the wild flowers that grew on the hill.

It was peaceful as the sun was shining.

Blue sky stretched across the horizon without a cloud in sight.

The two girls hummed happily as they enjoyed the afternoon together.

It was the epitome of bliss.

Was.

"U-U-Unnie~!!! HELP!!!!"

The older girl rapidly looked up to see that they were surrounded by masked men dressed in black.

They held the young girl in their grasp.

Furious, the older one drew her sword and attempted to fight off the attackers.

The men merely chuckled as one man stepped forward as her opponent.

"My my... is the princess going to kill me??"

The older sister snarled, growling angrily.

"You let my sister go you bastard!"

The man chuckled, amused.

"Can't do that princess I'm sorry. It's just part of my job so don't hate me too much."

The girl lunged at her attacker but the masked man was far more skilled than her.

He dodged easily and in return knocked the girl out with the hilt of his sword.

She fell to the ground.

"Tsk.. tsk... what a waste..."

The man kicked the fallen girl until she was badly beaten and coughing up blood.

"U-U-UNNIE!!!!!"

The older girl was now unable to move because of the pain.

The man knelt down so he could face the princess who now lay at his feet.

"W-Why a-a-are you doing this?" she asked weakly.

He shrugged.

"I don't have choice. These were my orders."

"W-W-Whose orders??"

He grinned evily.

"The king's of course..."

The man adjusted his mask and gesture for his gang to follow him

"Well let's get going men!"

Sounds of shuffling feet soon filled the girl's ears.

"U-U-UNNIE!!! JESSICA-UNNIE!!!! HELP ME!!!!!"

Yet the girl lay on the ground bloodied and helpless.

"K-K-Krys- Krystal...."

*End of flashback*

Jessica held back her tears.

She hurriedly wiped them away as she gripped the handle of the hand gun.

A dark blue fiery light of power started to flood from her palms

Her knuckles turned white as she tried to control her emotions as well as the magnimus that threatened to explode from within her.

"Never show emotion. Emotion equals vulnerable in the battle field..."

The ice princess suddenly aimed the gun in front of her as if their was an invisible enemy.

A burst of pure magical power shot from the gun and hit the wall.

It left a large burnt hole.

As rain hit upon it, it hissed from the contact of the heat.

She gasped for air as she tried to erase the resentful voice of her step-father in her head.

Jessica finally gripped her sanity.

Her clothes were now drenched but she didn't feel a thing.

She hadn't felt cold, warmth... anything really... in over ten years.

The emotions that ruled her were hate and revenge. Even pain had been erased from her mind.

Jessica went back to staring up at the skies.

"Krystal-ah..." called Jessica in her mind, "today would have been your 19th birthday sweetie..."

The ice-princess sighed.

"I promise to get you back after this mission... So please wait for unnie..."

"Your Highness?" called out a voice.

The young girl turned to find a nervous looking guard.

"Yes?" she asked curtly.

"U-Uhh... the king will see you now..."

"Alright. Lead the way..."

The ice princess made sure to have both her knife and sword,

She played with the hand gun as she followed the young man.

He gulped nervously.

"Happy birthday Krystal..."

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yuri stood dressed very smartly in her uniform.
The long button-down overcoat with it's silver butttons.
The sleeves and shoulders were adorned with rankings.
Her matching pants and black combat boots.
And then the bridged hat that was sitting snugly on her head completed the look.
Rain didn't stop Yuri from pushing her men to their limits.
It had already been six hours straight without breaks, but Yuri continued to bark orders at them.
She was nicknamed, the black pearl.
Pearl for her unmistakeable beauty.
Black for the color of her soul.
Although young, she controlled thousands of men and women underneath her.
The black pearl trained them to show no mercy and to know no mercy.
She broke them down mentally and physically beat them to exhaustion.
Tonight Yuri was pissed off as hell.
The young general had caught her men slacking off during mock dueling matches when she wasn't looking.
That called for the torturous amount of physical activity tonight within the severe storm.
Everyone was covered in mud and they were cold to the very fiber of their souls.
"GIVE ME TEN ING LAPS AROUND THE PALACE!!! MOVE IT!!! BE BACK IN 10 OR I'LL MAKE IT 50!"
The men scrambled up from their pushup positions and started to race towards the worn path that circled the palace.
Yet one man lagged behind everyone.
He looked ready to collapse.
"P-P-Please ma'am... I c-c-can't-
"WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM!!!"
Yuri gripped the man by the collars of his shirt, choking him.
"I SHOW NO MERCY IN THIS CAMPAIGN! YOUR HEARTS STILL BEATING WHICH MEANS YOU CAN STILL ING MOVE YOUR LAZY A**!!! NOW MOVE IT YOU PIECE OF ING TRASH!!!"
She threw him to the ground and he landed with a whimper.
Yet he still got up to catch up to his groupmates.
"IT LOOKS LIKE I HAVEN'T BEEN CLEAR! ONE MAN DARED TO PLEAD WITH ME. 50 LAPS!!!!!"
Yuri turned her head around as she could hear the sounds of muffled screaming and contact of flesh.
She knew that young man was being pummeled to his death right now.
But she didn't care.
Yuri looked up to the dark storm clouds and grinned.
"It was dark that night too wasn't it oppa?"
Yuri grew up in the streets.
Her parents abandoned her at three.
The world was a frightening place for a child that young.
She learned quickly that life was about the survival of the fittest.
Her first lesson had been when she watched her older brother getting beaten to death.
He had stolen a loaf of bread for himself and his starving younger sister.
But the gang of older teenagers fought him for the bread as food was scarce.
She watched her brother beeing outnumbered.
He died a painful death as he screamed for help.
No one came to his aid.
And Yuri watched it in silence.
From that point on Yuri learned that life was all about enduring pain.
She had to inflict violence unless she didn't want to get hurt.
By five she had joined her own gang and was murdering other children for her share of food.
At the age of twelve her reputation was a cold-blooded ruthless yet skilled fighter was heard all around the kingdom.
Even the king had heard of her.
That was when she was brought to his service.
From that point on Yuri was trained as a soldier.
An ultimate weapon to train generations of weapons after her.
"General Kwon?" rang a voice disrupting Yuri from her thoughts.
It was the king's personal bodyguard.
"Yes?"
He saluted her.
"The king would like to speak to you ma'am."
"I only take orders from Jessica."
The man nodded, "She's been summoned as well."
Yuri turned to her lieutenant.
"Watch them. After the laps make them to do 200 more sit ups."
The lieutenant nodded and Yuri followed the man inside the castle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Jessica was sitting in a room by herself in front of a roaring fire.

She was bored to death as she played with her knife.

Spinning it in her hands, she would throw in at the door and calling it back with her magnimus.

As she threw it again the door suddenly opened revealing Yuri.

"Whoah Sica!" yelled Yuri as she caught the blade easily, "I thought we were friends?"

Jessica smirked.

"Not my fault you got in the way. Besides you're late."

Yuri scoffed.

"I was training the newbie trash outside. They dared to slack off today. Bad choice."

The ice princess chuckled dryly. She knew how tough Yuri could be.

After all they had trained together throughout the years.

"If you push them to hard its going to shatter their magnimus you know..." Jessica warned.

Yuri laughed.

"If you don't start from rubble how do you work your way up my princess?"

Jessica shook her head but didn't bother to say anything back as she knew Yuri was right.

The black pearl removed her hat and shook the water away from her hair.

"So what does your father want tonight?"

"Step-father," snarled Jessica, "and I don't know. Another mission perhaps?"

Yuri sighed.

"When is he going to stop giving us these God damned missions. They're boring as hell."

Jessica gave Yuri a stern look.

"They're my only chance at getting Krystal back Yul. I have to follow his orders."

"Face it Jess, she's probably dead by now."

Jessica automatically reached for her knife and held it against Yuri's throat.

"NEVER SAY THAT AGAIN!"

"A-A-Alright," coughed Yuri, "I-I-I'm sorry..."

Jessica sheathed the knife and stared back into the fire.

It was quiet as the two waited for the king.

The logs crackled making popping sounds.

"Hey Yul... do you think he's going to betray me when this is all done?"

Yuri looked to Jessica who had a blank look on her face.

She could see the hollow yet clouded brown eyes.

"Probably," shrugged the general, "but we knew it was coming right? You can never trust anyone."

"What if he makes us finish each other of Yuri? What would you do?"

Yuri shrugged.

"My first duty is to you Jess. I'm not ruled by him, What would you want me to do?"

"Kill him."

"Then so be it..."
